Anyone else a little disappointed there is nothing majorly amazing about these performance parts?

If by "Amazing" you mean more power than of course. This is all to enhance the car in term of lightly increasing the sport handling characteristic. They've been doing these kind of touch up since the launch of the 1st gen. Just get the WRX STi if power is what you're after.

STI in impreza WRX +100HP DIFFERENT ENGINE. STI on 86s ZERO HP boost and shit load on visual changes and stiff af suspension. Only put a STI badge if it actually produce more power.

I get what you're saying and I'm not here to disprove of it, but I'm pretty sure they made the STI bits available for purchase separate of the cars, so you could buy a base model and still install all of these yourself (or have a dealer or trusted mechanic and body shop do it, I guess). Whether that would come to costing you the same as buying a tricked out model from the dealer or not, I don't know. If you buy used later on and them buy the parts, probably cheaper overall. And I would probably look into minor changes for horsepower or, at most, a small turbo that spools quickly and a CONSERVATIVE tune to net me a little extra power. From 3rd party vendors, most likely. If the car's driving dynamics and the feel are superb from the beginning, I may not even go for more power. I live around windy, hilly farmlands and wooded areas that wouldn't need a ton of power to enjoy cruising, but highways are another thing (especially near Philadelphia, about an hour from me, that I occasionally drive). Also, for the record, I think the aesthetic bits they've added look SICK. The way that spoiler accentuates the body lines is *mwuah.*
i've owned two BRZ's would never buy another, cheap, no power, continue to use the excuse that it will cost too much, while KIA and Honda are turbo'ing just about everything near the same price range.

What rear wheel drive cars are Kia and Honda currently offering in the same price range? Tarting up a mass produced front wheel drive platform is cheap. It's called economy of scale. Building a relatively low volume sports car in a dedicated factory is expensive. You're paying for the platform, not the engine.

I'm pretty sure if it were upto Subaru they'd release a STI BRZ in a heart beat. I 100% guarantee it's Toyota preventing Subaru from doing so, because then they'd have to sell it as well, and that's in direct competition with their Supra then. Which is stupid, ultimately the two cars are different enough the customers should be able to pick what car they want. Fun, quick, agile? Go with BRZ. Comfy smooth power delivery and sound? Go with Supra. So I don't think it would interfere with Supra sales (not like they're doing much anyways) It seems like Subaru is DYING to make a turbocharged/STI version of the BRZ
