Interesting food for thought. Makes more of a difference than we sometimes give credit. Love the representation of drumming arts from across history

For me, the pipe band sticks are a little weird with the taper near the butt end. VF and IP are the most reliable IMO with PM coming in a close third. Again IMO. We used Slingerland 3S sticks when I marched D.C.I. in 1980 with the Spirit of Atlanta. Tom Float was a big fan of that brand. For my hands presently, I gravitate to the VF Indoor Hardimons. A lighter stick with a fast rebound, which is what I love for shooting videos for my students and for general playing. I have two pairs of Slingerland Densiwoods, which at the time were probably the heaviest sticks in production. You can hurt yourself if you're not careful playing with that kind of weight. Thanks for posting this video and keep up the good work.

I have a pair of those indoors hardimons and I have a singular individual 3s that was randomly in a snare case someone gave me. I sort of wish I had a pair… but I do t know where another could be gotten. They’re sort of short for marching sticks by todays standard though.

I don't know jack shit about marching drumming or sticks at all, I just interested in drumming; But, why did you hold the ancient sticks with that closed grip on your right hand? It makes any difference (sound wise) to play like that?

I held all the sticks differently because that’s more or less how they’re intended to be held. The grip on the ancient sticks is essentially what’s described in the Moeller book.
