Check out the new Diamond Mounter merch!
cbilton.creato... One of the first people to become a patron to the diamond mounter channel is a bee keeper and she was kind enough to send me 2 large candles made from pure bees wax!
Before using them as candles I wanted to try out the wax on my tools to see if there was much difference from what I am used to using to lubricate metal.
There was quite a difference! More than I expected.
Watch the video to see which wax was best.

Check out the new Diamond Mounter side channel!
Its called 'Diamond Mounter Clips'
Its compiled of short clips taken from previous videos to
highlight useful techniques and information I was teaching.
No intros, no outros just straight to the essence of what
was useful in the video!
Calling for new patrons!
With patrons support I will be able to offer far more information than I am currently able to.
With nearly 25 years of knowledge gained in the jewellery trade working with some of the best diamond mounters in the UK I can train practitioners of jewellery making, up to and far beyond the skill level usually found in High Street jewellers workshops.
Become a classic patron and you will not only be able to view part 2 of full instructional guides but also be thanked personally on the next youtube upload! You will also have access to all future uploads 2 weeks before they go live on youtube.
Official patrons have all the benefits of a classic patron but also gain access to regular exclusive content. Behind the scenes, personal jewellery projects Im working on, I share ideas for future videos, photos and stories from throughout my career as a professional jeweller.
Also Official patrons are welcome to suggest ideas for future videos and contact me anytime if they need advice for their own jewellery making endeavors.
Classic patronage is just £5 a month and to become an Official patron costs only £10 a month making Diamond Mounter patronage by far the best value way to gain access to online jewellery making courses.
As the number of full instructional guides continues to grow the value will be even more considerable.
www.patreon.co...
There is now an entry level tier which costs just £1 a month.
Its named the Supporter tier which allows you to support the channel with out any substantial financial obligation. I will thank you personally on the next Diamond Mounter video uploaded.
My ambition is to share what I have learned throughout my career to as many people as possible.
My vehicle to do this is the Diamond Mounter KZbin channel.
If you appreciate the video content and find the information useful then why not become a patron and support its growth!

Hi The beeswax for the candle is held at 80 degrees Celsius for 72 hours, which allows all impurities to settle out of suspension. Filtering is also conducted and this results in high grade beeswax, which is great for cutting, drawing and sawing of precious metal. I'm the beekeeper and candle maker. Take care

By the look of it, The "jewellers wax" (JW) is a paraffin wax. The old beeswax is very pure, highly filtered wax, Making it harder and less sticky. The candle beeswax is less filtered so is softer, Melts more readily and has more natural oils in it.

Since user experience can be subjective, I reviewed the sawing segment at reduced playback speed and counted the number of strokes per cut. For the chalky lube it was 22 strokes, for the jeweler's wax 36 and for beeswax 32. It's possible the wax is better for tight tolerance machining such as drilling and burring, and also better for the draw plate, while the chalky lube is better for removing material fast as with sawing. Another source for beeswax is a toilet seal at the hardware store for only two dollars.

I’m a relative beginner at silversmithing and I bought a block of beeswax as a substitute for the much more expensive lube. After watching your video, I think I’m going to stick with using my lovely natural block of beeswax. Great videos. Thank you 🙏🏽

I have been told that the banana sweets are modeled after the “gros michel“ banana, which is no longer commercially produced due to a fungus. Th cavendish, the current commercial banana is now threatened by the fungus. It is said, that the gros michel was superior in flavor. I wouldn’t know. But yes, you are on point with the other flavors.

Hi Chris thanks again for this video! I specialize in wire wrapping but recently branching out and adding traditional techniques into my art. Since this video came out I started experimenting with natural bees wax, bur life, and certified cosmetics bees wax. For some things like sawing, the natural bees wax gums up after longer sessions. I liked how the bur life flaked off so I'm working on mixes of the 3 melted together. I'll keep you posted on my experience when I feel like the ratios are fine tuned. So far a 1:1 of the two bees waxes mixed together helps with the gumming and I'm experiencing with a good ratio of that to bur life to avoid the gumming. Really helping me learn 'Less is more' for sure! A lot of my gumming was over-applucation, so I'm giving it time and testing the mixes further. Perhaps a mixture would be a fun follow-up video if you ever revisit this!

Whenever I was drilling I didn't like the look, smell and colour of machine oil, and had some Motul 5000 that was left after changing the oil in my motorbike. worked like a charm. Don't know if it would stain precious metals, but its designed to work well when it's hot, and personally drilling with it was great.through SS and mild steel.

Wire does get easier to draw as it reduces in diameter .. but sounds like you are pretty happy.... I do wonder if a feature of the commercial lubricant is that it falls away from your work a little easier?
