@Kurazarrh10 ай бұрын
I probably should have been clearer in my explanation there: you can cook a *full pot* of meat and veggies, which is six meals, with as few as three pieces of wood. It's not possible to cook an entire six-meal pot of meat & veggie stew on one piece of wood, though a pot with just one serving in it could be done.
@fictitiousnightmares10 ай бұрын
@@Kurazarrh I probably should have been clearer myself. I cook a full crock worth. 4 meals with one firewood.
@Kurazarrh10 ай бұрын
@@fictitiousnightmares I tried this out just now. You're correct, though this behavior appears to be due to a bug introduced in 1.18. It's not supposed to function this way--and the UI glitches out when you do this, too! What's *supposed* to happen is, after the log burns out and the fire's temperature drops below the pot's temperature, the pot's temperature is supposed to start dropping as well. Typically, by the time the fire temp hits about 100C, the pot temp should start dropping, and by 50C, it should be dropping even faster. Once the pot's temp gets below 150C, the cooking progress bar should reverse (pretty quickly), and completely reset after a few seconds.
@fictitiousnightmares10 ай бұрын
@@Kurazarrh Yeah, I saw the bug where the temp/progress bar stops updating and showing what it should once the fire goes 'cold', but it still has the temp and finishes cooking. The temp DOES actually drop, you just can't see it. If you tried to cook 6 servings with 1 log you would see that it does the same thing, except it fails as the temp dropped, even though you couldn't see it due to the progress display bug when the fire goes cold. So not sure there is actually a problem with the temps, just the display of them.
@Kurazarrh10 ай бұрын
@@fictitiousnightmares I'm still pretty convinced it's a bug, unless Tyron also changed how quickly the food temperature drops in 1.18. I don't see mention of that in any changelogs, though.

I feel like I'm missing something, could you answer this please: is there a reason why you only make one bowl and one pot instead of 4 each? I thought that when firing stuff in a pit, the time it took was uniform depending on material used to fire it, and that you always consumed the same resources to fire a pit kiln (a certain amount of hay and sticks, as well as logs or peat).
@Kurazarrh11 ай бұрын
In the very beginning of the game, when time isn't on your side and you need to be out gathering resources, the last thing you want (as a new player, at least) is to spend more time or resources than you really need. You don't need more than one pot and one bowl at the beginning of the game, when digging up clay is a very time-consuming task. Hence, for a new player, one of each is enough, and maximizing for longer-term efficiency doesn't pay out in the short- to medium-term (and that added efficiency is so negligible in the long term that it might as well not even exist). Granted, if I left two slots open in the pit kiln, it probably wouldn't have hurt too much to make one additional bowl and pot (or three bowls total), but IIRC I was trying to conserve clay for other things.

my 777 worldseed only shares very shallow similarities; granite does indeed start there but the topography is totally different and even looks kind of stretched as though it is being artificially warped.

What version of the game did you make your world in? And did you change any of the other settings? I've also heard that 1.18.3 might have changed the world generation a bit, so you might need to make the world in 1.18.1 and then upgrade again.

@@Kurazarrh Same problems here with 1.18.3. Standard of upheaval is now 30% not 40%, I tried both with 777 as a seed, but the map looks quite different to yours. Anyhow, I just discovered Vintage Story this Sunday and you yesterday. Really like your Videos :)
@Kurazarrh Жыл бұрын
@@lukrezialaval2406 Hey, I'm glad you've discovered Vintage Story and my channel! Unfortunately there isn't a whole lot I can do about the seed mismatch, but if you temporarily downgrade your installation to 1.18.1 and create the world with the 777 seed, then you should be able to update to 1.18.3 and it *should* still work. I'm not sure how upgrading in the process of playing affects how the world generates (whether it has no effect or whether all chunks generated after updating will be "1.18.3" chunks).

I just bought the game and I'm very confused about the mapgen. I've used all of the same settings as you, thinking I'd play along, but even when I get myself to the same coordinates you're at I have a completely different-looking terrain - the shapes of the lakes in particular are notably different. I understood from your episode 0 explanation that it would only be the vegetation and NPCs and the like that would change, but the actual structure of the world would be consistent across uses of the same seed? Or did I miss something?
@Kurazarrh11 ай бұрын
As it turns out, there are a couple things that have happened since version 1.18.0 (were on 1.18.15 now) that are preventing folks from generating the same world. 1) In 1.18.3, Tyron made some changes to the terrain generator to fix some bugs. This means that the map in the series can't be generated if you're on 1.18.3 or newer. In theory, you SHOULD be able to temporarily downgrade to 1.18.0 and generate the world, BUT... 2) Tyron just fixed a bug for the upcoming 1.19 release where he basically found that even worlds generated with the same seed sometimes have different appearances due to inconsistent values being set for the other parameters. I'm going to put up a "first save" world download in the description, so check back in a few minutes or an hour and check the video description for that. The only thing I worry about in addition is whether *additional* terrain generation after the initial load is going to also be affected, but I hope not.

@@Kurazarrh So in answer to your question about whether it makes a difference to the rest of the world, the answer is... kinda? Point the First: When loading your backup file, I appeared at roughly the same coordinates that you were at the start of the video but those coordinates were on a different part of the map. Thankfully you were between two fairly distinctively-shaped shorelines, and I wasn't too far away, so I made a cross-country dash to match up with you. Takeaway: Playing along, I won't be able to rely on matching your coordinates since it looks like my map's been shifted to the north-east by maybe 50 bocks or so. Point the Second: The fruit trees were in the same places you found them and were of the same types. Yay! Takeaway: Maybe specific one-off vegetation spawns like fruit trees are stable across the board? Point the Third: When I got to where you found the cattails, they were extremely under-represented. I was only able to harvest enough for 3.5 baskets, never mind the storage box. So I will be on the lookout for more cattails as I follow you around, and in the meantime be very conservative with what else I collect. Takeaway: Maybe general or area-covering vegetation is created on the fly as you get near it? Anyway, I'm still going to give following along a go. Hopefully the RNG won't screw me over too badly. 🤞
@Kurazarrh11 ай бұрын
@@seonab Hey awesome thanks for the feedback on the experience! It's odd that the world coordinates shifted... While I definitely experienced that while regenerating worlds using the same seed, I would have thought that a world that already had been partly generated would keep its coordinates. Very strange! As for plants (apparently other than fruit trees!) They are not seed-deterministic, so you will definitely see some differences but should generally be in about the same area.
