Good Morning, Thanks for your videos, I am fan of the channel and get a lot out of it. We did a circumnavigation of UK this summer and had no end of trouble with dirty diesel. The tank is treated with the algae killer additive and that seems to work and kill the algae but the problem comes from this black sticky left overs from the dead bugs. This seems to have the ability to pass through the throw away element filters but it catches in gauze filters and blocks them. For us the boat has a water separator with a throw away element filter then a gauze filter in the fuel lift pump and then a the main throw away element filter then a gauze filter in the CAV, DPA fuel injection pump on the T108 engine. The gauze filters blocked up with the black sticky residue. We made up a fuel polishing unit and the gauze filter in the pump on that blocked up as well. In the end we had to have the tank cleaned out in Brixham which was great but £600 for an afternoons work. I think the theory according to the suppliers of the additive is that the black residue burns in the engine but let me tell you it does not!! Regards John

I gave up buying fuel from boat yards, I now only buy from roadside filling stations, the fuel is clean, water free (probably because its not been hanging around in a tank next to the river!....cured all my fueling issues. Yes its a pain filling with jerry cans but better than stripping down the injection system every other season.

What engine do you have? Some can use. HVO is now quite handy to try!

I did not have time for the entire video jet, but what I can say is that 30% HVO works great in a Hino Wo4D, but I mostly use it for the diesel heater. The FAME stuff from regular road diesel solidifies around freezing temperature, and since my Chinese Diesel Heater is mounted outside in an unheated spot, it kept stopping with clogged filters. A white vaseline like substance would cover the filter elements. This will be my 4th winter burning 30% HVO with no FAME. I also use a Dickinson Newport Diesel heater. This is drip filled pot belly style stove. On B7 road diesel I needed to clean out the soot every week. On HVO the is no soot at all. Did not have to clean more than once a year. This stuff is really better! Well actually the norm is now crap, and pure 1980 diesel would be premium :-)

Try soaking them for 24-48 hours in Sea Foam. I have had great success using Sea Foam as an engine cleaner.

Personally, I would always use the fuel that the engine was designed and built for, provided that you can still get it. This diesel problem is analogous to the those caused by petrol with 5 or 10 % ethanol in small petrol engines.

Hi I reckon its around 20% bio now. I used to mix with either kerosene or petrol also 2 stroke oil helps

lot of cars hawe fuel sytem fail . that cost lot of cash for owners . im shure it is bad disel that is the esu .
