He should definitely be getting commission, that’s for sure. The amount of apprentice hours (essentially $0/hr) required to get an A&P license is just… daunting to most people. I could wrench on planes for the rest of my life and be happy as a clam (like Stig, just watching them take off is enough reward for me - plus keeping my brain working, especially for diagnostics) but alas. I can’t afford the training and apprenticeship hours required. Thus, I shall live vicariously through Stig till the end of time lol.

Hi Stig, glad to see you hard at work! I just learned about a horrible accident involving two aircraft technicians that were killed while changing a tire on a Delta jet. I thought this subject might make a good subject for a video. Inflated big jet tires can be very dangerous (like a lot of other components on an airliner) and I think people would be interested in learning about tire repair (not just changing tires) including inflating them. You might have already addressed this in another video, and if so, sorry I haven't caught up with your last 2 videos. Both technicians changing the tire on the Delta jet were not A&P's, one guy worked in the paint shop, and I'm not sure what the other guy did. They found a leak and the tire exploded while they were working on it, killing 2 and injuring a 3rd technician. It's important that on critical operations, an A&P or A&I is should always be supervising (at a minimum). Keep up the great work, brother Stig!

Thank you for being so safety minded! Not many A&I's are as safety conscious as you are. Most folks get too comfortable after a period of time and that's when accidents happen. When I worked at an FBO at a general aviation airport, I was amazed by the number of people who would walk up to an aircraft with engines running. Depending in the time of day and the type of aircraft, it is hard to see props when they are turning under power.

Oh this one is cool 2:53 . Latched and unlatched probably harkens back to when the damn thing ran on relay logic, a fault being "latched" would have referred to a latching relay. These come in two and single coil variants, so certain conditions would not only "activate" the fault but also latch a relay which would serve as a crude form of memory. I've designed "must be stupid, field repairable, simple, and bulletproof" control systems on the same sets of relay logic principles, including using latching relays as a crude form of memory to remember commands sent by what is effectively a 1960s trunk line.

Hi Stig, Thank you so much for your real "Educational" videos! As an HVAC contractor, in LA, plus of course, an AV geek and a spotter, I always wonder, Is there refrigerant present in the Air conditioning systems or is it just compressed air, even when on the ground. I remember being on an SQ, long taxi and it was hot. Thanks again for all the possible energy!!
@StigAviation3 ай бұрын
The air conditioning system within aircraft is through a bootstrap system. It uses a component called an air cycle machine to cool down the air. The air originally comes from sources of either the engines or the APU. The one place I have seen refrigerant used is on the 787 and that is strictly used for avionics cooling. But the air conditioning system is just Air.

FINALLY a Koenigsegg in the cargo section! Being from Sweden and also both a tech-nerd and an aviation geek, I am ridiculously proud of Koenigsegg. Amazing engineering, amazing innovation and wonderful entrepreneurship, if I may say so! The brand pays homage to the legacy of Swedish Airforce in numerous ways, they took over the premises of a dismantled air force wing where they develop hyper cars and technology. And yeah, they happen to break some records too. Hey, Stig, I know you prefer classic Porsches, but being an avgeek and tech connoisseur yourself, check them out. You won't be disappointed. (One example: in some places, they use connectors of the same type internally that was used in SAAB 35 Draken and SAAB 37 Viggen jets. Why? Just a nod to the legacy of aircraft engineering in Sweden) Note: that'd be a Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut, price starting at $3+M or so. Absolut is the specialized track version and then they have the Attack which is the default "max downforce" version.

35:00 I've noticed the same thing! When I was working for Alaska, a few of the 800s could be a little on the grouchy side. They loved to cause finger pricks! I learned very quickly which ones those were. Then there were a few 900ERs that tended to be drippy. And what I mean by that is well PDX rains, a lot! And I swear it was only with those ones that rain droplets would drop from underneath the wing and get me as I was trying to take shelter. Then there were the Maxes and they were a real joy! I know some people in the comments will be all over me for this but I don't care. I've flown on 'em and I will continue to do so. And when I was around them on ramp, they were my absolute favorites! I could be loading bags and find that somehow they'd slide across the floor just a little easier. Or it could be really cold out and I'm waiting for the last few bags to show up so to keep my hands warm I keep 'em close to the engine which still hasn't completely cooled down. That cone was always the perfect temperature and I can't say that about any other 737. I don't know what it is but 737s are like kids to me. Cute, adorable kids! Probably because they are Baby Boeings! XD When they're grumpy or need a little TLC you know it. But when they're happy they're a real treat to be around!

Hi Stig, I have always wondered if the circuit breakers in the cockpit are actually directly connected to the systems like residential circuit breakers or are they just a remote extension of another breakers that is located remotely. It seems like a lot of excessive wiring if everything power related runs through the cockpit.
@JakeHambyZ803 ай бұрын
They're directly connected. Remember that everything is designed to be extremely reliable. There's at least one other circuit breaker panel in the avionics bay so they're not all in the cockpit. Airliners have more internal wiring than you can imagine. Some quick Googling gives 67 km (42 miles) of wiring for a Boeing 737 and 100 km (62 miles) for a Boeing 787.

It just makes it easier to access the database for pilots and maintenance.

This has to be one of the coolest channels on KZbin, Wow!!! Boeing have the equivalent of DIP/DIL switches? Is there anything these powerful beasts don’t have!? I prefer Airbus of course, barking dog reasons 😅 I hope you don’t mind 👍🌱

I think as a passenger I've always admired Boeing for their giants and what they have been to the industry as a whole, but as far as comfort, every Airbus I've been a passenger on has been quieter. I do appreciate that

Looks like that LOT 787 had those auto gear doors on retraction.

Very good observation Richard, and you are absolutely correct. You noticed that, it dropped the gear doors immediately after taking off.

you small conversation on the different makes was great. I work in a HD truck fleet, I work on nearly every make of semi truck in the US and they all have strengths and weaknesses. I may prefer one over others due to small things that make maintenance, diagnostic, and repair easier but they truly are not that different in the end.

Love your videos my man. One question that has been bugging me for a while is what the bare metal band on the tail end of IAE V2500 (and RB 211) engines is for, and why it is not painted. On pretty much all other engines, the outside cowling is completely painted, even on the chevrons for the MAX/Plastic Princess.
@StigAviation3 ай бұрын
It’s because it’s part of the high bypass and that is the hot section. It would be pointless to paint there because it will deteriorate. It’s just the way to V2500 is designed

My company is in the line up to get Max-10 supposedly by 2026… however, at the rate Boeing is getting them certified, 2036 sounds a little more reasonable🎉

Boeing is definitely having serious setbacks, especially due to the current strike situation with their employees.

26:43 nice to see Boeing put a ground recognition light on the bottom of the winglet, like they did on the 747-8

When I see cargo compartments, I always wonder what is or isn’t pressurized during flight throughout the aircraft (is it the same areas across different models/makes?) I remember hearing ancient stories of people stowed away (snuck into) in wheel well or cargo areas they could freeze, lose o2, or experience much discomfort until landed again. Can you myth break these types of stories? Thx Stig.
@StigAviation3 ай бұрын
All cargo compartments on these aircraft are pressurized. The landing gear wheel well areas are not pressurized. And the stories are true, there have been many times people try to stow away in the landing gear, it did not end well for them.
