Hello there. I got a STIHL 041 AV this thing really cuts.My grandpa bought it in Germany about 32 years ago. It loves going deep in the wood while cutting. Though i am not that good at sharpening the chain. Looking at your tutorials I think I am getting better. Thanks Buckin, you are a hero.

My old man used a 050 among the other numerous saws he logged with throughout his 45 year logging career but he used it back in the 70s falling oaks and different types of wood for the city of winnipeg clearing the red river walkway. Used to say was a beast of a saw.

LOVED watchin and listenin to that old Stihl run! The first saw my dad bought for falling in 1970 was an 050. In 74 when I was just turned 16 I got to run it when it was coupled to an Olini chainsaw winch we used to clean log jams out of the Dungeness river. The small Homelite that came with the rented winch didn't have enough power to move the 4 foot diameter logs we had chunked into 4 foot long pieces so we hooked up the 050 which of course voided the warranty. Then since we parted the 3/16 winch line too mamny times we loaded it with 1/4 inch line which also voided the warranty. LOL I had to learn to feather the throttle to lift the logs up to the top of the pile and hold it there until someone could give it a push over and then let the log down the backside. If I stalled the engine the weight of the log would pull the saw through backwards and make the saw run in reverse (points model saws will run in reverse) and unspool the line on the drum making a BIG mess. Thanks for bringing up some old memories for me. I used to also have an old 090 I used to cut shake blocks, That was a BEAST of a saw. Now I just have a Stihl 018, 031 and an 056 Super.

Stihl 050 was the first big saw I ever owned. I restored it from the bottom up made 3 cuts and broke the oil drive 😭. Couldnt find a replacement and had to sell the saw for parts. Tickled my heart that buckin has one of these 050s would pay good money to have a working one again. Replaced it in my fleet with an 045 full wrap and 32 bar and skip setup.

Yeppers .... square grind done right is hard to beat ! With a fresh grind on the robot grinder I can get sqr/rnd about 85% the speed of sqr/sqr ... edge seems to last long time also ... seems to me that the sqr/sqr takes a bit more oomph to pull thru the timber than the sqr/rnd because of its design ...for firewood cutting/processing with smaller saws I prefer the sqr/rnd configurations for ease of use (and because I don’t own a silvey/simington sqr -grinder 😆)
