before i change the whole tank, probably not cost effective, my ms250c, i seem to have clogged passage between the chain oil exit hole, and the hole where the oil pump should pump oil up and out of exit. D you know is that passage just molded in, i cant clear it with picks, air pressure, etc. The clutch was getting hot with tight dry bar and chain and there are signs of plastic kind of melted surrounding the clutch bell and behind it, wondering if youve ever encountered that one. thanks

I'm not too sure if the passage is molded in or not. I would assume there is a metal passageway and the tank is molded around that. Here is a video that I found that may be helpful kzbin.info/www/bejne/hn_cgKCurLRnndU . I gather from what you wrote above that you have already cleaned the bar of all foreign matter. I have not encountered this problem to date but, is sounds like your oil pump drive gear has failed. The big thing to consider here is that something else is probably failing behind the chain drive sprocket that caused the oiler gear to fail. Something is most likely causing excessive heat due to excessive friction. I know the chain is getting hot without oil, but I don't think that's the cause of your problem in my opinion. Let us know how it goes. Thanks.

thanks, yes ive watched that one too. Well it turns out and im writing this in the hopes it will help someone else a) worm gear and drive arm thing that clutch bell turns was shot, i replaced. still nothing b) the hole in the oil tank that should be plugged was open, visible looking straight at muffler, down to the left...i threaded and inserted a pipe plug to seal... still nothing c) duh, the passage i thought was plugged was my own fault, i made a makeshift plug from a little cork at home, and went too deep, which blocked the passageway i thought was clogged (was in a rush) by inserting the cork too far i crossed the "exit hole" where the oil should come out to the bar d) since threading it and screwing in short 1/4-20 plug with some teflon tape, passage is clear e) the bar oil now pouring out from around the clutch housing... looking into the clutch housing area, i noticed bar oil filling that cavity under where the clutch is. apparantley from the excess heat of a worn clutch, the plastic itself of the saw housing had melted, and created an opening between there and burrowed a small hole through the plastic which exited just behind the bottom(threaded end) of the oil pump. i cleaned and tried to pump silicone into those areas, as the oil wasnt getting to the pump, instead taking the easy way out and making a left turn and pouring out around the clutch area. im gonna try later when the silicone is completely cured, hopefully it fixes and this helps someone thanks again

Awesome and glad to hear you have it figured out. Thanks for taking the time to let us know what you found.

Wow superbly done video! Thank you. I get so upset when I just need to see how one clip or something comes apart of a whole assembly and every video acts like you're Ned Flanders over here. We don't need to be shown that left is loose and right is tight or a reminder to wear safety glasses etc. If one is attempting to replace the gas tank/trigger assembly for a chainsaw, they're gonna be at least somewhat mechanically inclined already. So thanks for a guide video actually tailored for guys balls deep into a project, just needing a pointer or two on disassembly/reassembly etc.

Awesome video. Fast & straightforward. My rubber gas line pickup hose from carb. to inside fuel tank is all shredded inside the fuel tank. Also, the tiny U bend fuel tank breather hose is torn. I need to replace those two items. Edit: I have a '91 046 Magnum that for 30 years has ALWAYS started. Now it failed. It is by far the best saw I've ever owned. I tried Husky's & they did not have the NUTS this saw has. Walks through everything; never bogs down.

I usually pull the boot out of the rear handle without taking it off the cylinder. I will spray the end of the intake boot with a soapy water solution as I remove it from the rear handle and when I pull it back into the rear handle. An old intake I typically replace with a new one - cylinder, first, and rear handle second. My soapy water solution is about 50% Dawn soap and water in a spray bottle.

You reused old hoses and bushings on a 20 year old saw? Is that advisable?

I just did this replacement and now the saw only runs on half choke. I’ve taken it back apart 3 times and put back together with same result. Seems like it’s one thing holding me up

Thanks for taking the time to make this vid! I just purchased an older 044 with a broken handle. It’s completely broken in half at the farthest rear point where the foot pad & upper handle connect. I would image the removal of the old, and installation of the new handle assembly would be very similar from the 046 to the 044? Also, where did you get the handle/tank assembly, and is it OEM? I see after market versions on eBay fairly cheap, but was a little concerned about their quality.
@doublez7246 жыл бұрын
I also imagine the removal and assembly process would be similar. The tank I used was a brand new OEM Stihl fuel tank which also came with the fuel cap for the tank. I hope your disassembly and reassembly goes well!

Good, but it would be nice to see the complete job rather than you gotta do this or that, but well done.😁🤔

You're minus a part on the intake boot, there should be an outer metal ring along with the inner ring.

what happened to the old tank?
@doublez7248 жыл бұрын
The tank was cracked. The crack was located below the bolts that attach the top handle to the tank (on the right side of the tank).

Can you give me eBay link for this tool on 1:17?

The tool is a telescoping inspection mirror with a magnet on the end. To my knowledge most auto parts stores should have is in stock.
