I fixed mine yesterday on my farmboss 390. The fuel vent line was still attached just cracked. Mine had 2 screws inside the vent line, one on the bottom and one on top, allowing air to enter the hose around the threads while keeping debris out.

Mine is a 029. a 390 must be a monster. :) I did find a few that had different designs. Some are better then others. i am not a big fan of the one for mine. it works but it is hard to keep it on. thanks for the watch and the comment.

this just answered my question of "what the hell just fell out of my chainsaw and are those f'ing set screws in a hose?" haha thank you for this video, nobody has good content for this 90's era chainsaw.

Thanks for the vid I assumed this was my problem but as past experience tells me to do some research first . I've had mine almost 20yrs also and this is the first time I've had this issue. Thanks again.

…SAME here. Never a problem other than typical maintenance, new chain(s), etc..except this tube pouring out fuel.

Mine is doing the same thing. Glad I found your video. Gasoline cologne isn't very appealing to my wife.

Good to hear. I went too long being soaked up gas before I broke it down. I might redo this video to bring up the production. Good luck. Thanks for the watch and comment. You could help us out by hitting that sub button. :)

I think that top black piece is for in the winter time you remove it so hot air can get to the filter. My 023 has one similar

Nice, thorough, slow enough to follow. Oh, and those "part words" you were looking for I believe were "Check Valve". Thanks for the video. You wouldn't have a video on connecting the back hoe attachment on a B-series Kubota would you? Or on where to add the hydraulic fluid?
@5LakesGarage
@5LakesGarage 10 ай бұрын
sorry for the delay. I was out of the country for a bit. You would be correct. Check valve would be a proper name for it. i would not have anything on a Kubota but i have a guy at the American legion post that has one. I will see if i can get him to get it out and do a walk around for him. good luck and thanks for the watch

That seems like a lot of parts to remove to replace the vent tube. I can't believe its hidden.

I am not sure why it was placed there. I might have gotten it replaced without taking so many things off. The saw it still running great.

it can be messy if you do not have the vent on there. I had to do this twice. the first vent tube would not vent and it was driving me crazy. I guess that is why they give you two cause they know that they are cheap. :) Thanks for watching.

Nice. if it falls off again I have a spare and will need to use some sort of adhesive. Thanks for the Tip. I am waiting for someone to call me with a tree to clean up so I can restock my wood pile. Need to sell more for more truck parts. Thanks for watching

I have an 039. Pretty much identical to the 029. Have the same problem. Vent tube is missing. Here's the thing. I had a look at it, and it looks to me like I don't have to take anything at all off of the saw except the front cover. To then be able to use a pair of needlenose pliers and apply the vent tube. Kind of wondering why you took so much of the saw apart, to get to a nipple on the gas tank that is right out there in the open without taking all that stuff off...
@5LakesGarage
@5LakesGarage Жыл бұрын
thanks for the comment and the watch. I usually take a lot apart to inspect and so it is better to film. Even though the lens was dirty for that video. sorry about that. In hindsight I should of mentioned about not having to take so much off. thanks for the tip and keep them coming.
@selador11

@@5LakesGarage Well done. Truth be told, I had about a 1/3rd of that stuff off, before I realized that I was looking right at the nipple on top of the gas tank, and hadn't had to take anything more than that top cover off to get a new vent on there.. LOL

I cant believe the best thing engineers could come up with was screwing two screws into a hose and stuck it on the gas tank for a cent haha I mean I hope they didn't get paid much for that one haha my stihl 021 saw has this style vent and it's dumb haha it doesn't have the valve style
@5LakesGarage
@5LakesGarage 2 жыл бұрын
I am always amazed on some engineering. But it does keep us in business. :) The vent tube I put in did not vent. Might be the reason why they put two in the package.

It actually is an effective design, have it on probably 6 of my 8 Stihls. (Referring to the tube and set screw design).
@RipeSnipe

it's a stupid simple design. anybody that loses it and has fuel hose laying around, can slap a screw in it and get back to work lol

How is the replacement vent line part holding up? I need one for my 029 super and Amazon sells them but there are mixed reviews on quality. Any problems with the valve cap coming off? You think that the cap is small enough that this could be replaced and tucked in without taking everything apart?
@5LakesGarage
@5LakesGarage 3 жыл бұрын
if you are patient you can get it on there without disassembling everything I only did it so the viewer could see a bit better. That I wanted to clean it all up. I think I have a mix review as well on the quality. It work great for a bit but then it is doesn't vent very well at times time and I have to crack the filler cap to release pressure. It is not all the time but it is getting a bit annoying. I might try a different manufacture and hope that it is not made in the same factory as the one I already picked up. Good luck and I hope the video helps. Thanks for watching.

i have been running my chainsaw without a vent line. is it ok to do that?
@5LakesGarage
@5LakesGarage 2 жыл бұрын
You can but it is a bit dangerous. You have a possible fuel leak. In my case I noticed I had an issue with my pants getting full of gas. It is a good think I don't smoke. I would suggest you get on there for safety. Check out some of the other videos. We have a few Ford ones and more to come. My Brother is having more issues with his Bronco. Typical. :)

@@5LakesGarage i guess i should get a vent tube i kinda get tired of smelling like gas. i have an 029 farm boss my dad bought back in the 90s it still runs pretty good. i was trying to find the oem vent tube but no luck. i dont even know what the original one looks like. i was on amazon looking and some vent tubes have bad reviews so i dont know.

Now I would have to say that I did have to put the second one on the saw after a few uses. The vent part was not venting. Very poor quality on the one I found. The second one seems to be better so far. I love my 029. never fails to start as long as you put fuel in it first. My arm is still a little sore. :) I was tired at the time and the brain was not hitting on all cylinders. it was a rather large tree. kzbin.info/www/bejne/r5raoaWmhst_pbs

What size hose was the vent line?
@5LakesGarage
@5LakesGarage 3 жыл бұрын
good say. sorry for the delay. I was OOT for a few days. The line looks like it is a 1/8. I have used regular fuel line while I was waiting for the vent tube to come in. was hard to get on. Also since putting the vent on I have seen a few times where the valve inside gets stuck and I am not able to vent the tank and it stumbles like it is not getting gas. once I release the pressure by undoing the cap it runs fine again. I think I will be going with a different manufacture and hope that that one is not made in the same factory as the first one. Good luck and thanks for watching.
