I just bought the 7.5" Master Tanto in San Mia a few days ago. I paid $219 at a local knife store. Absolute perfection 🥰 💞 👌!

Since Cold Steel changed hands, their overhead would have gone down, with savings passed on to John Q. Public. That’s a very good thing. As to left over inventory, Cold Steel’s not lost quality, nor superb customer service. The Cold Steel Magnum Tantos, both San Mai III and CPM V3, remain outstanding fighting knives, though the new iteration with CMP 3V is the superior steel. For self defense, this weapon gives reach, speed, and abilities not seen in bulkier, heavier, and shorter knives. The shorter the engagement, the slightly lower probability of injury, or death. For those that are older, less hale and hearty, the low weight, slender grip, longer reach are force multipliers. When a firearm is not the best choice, or if it’s not available, the Cold Steel Magnum Tanto XII CPM V3 is an ideal utilization of speed, lethality, and versatility. As blades go, price-wise/superb craftsmanship are concerned, this blade is unmatched. True, you can pay more, lot’s more, and get extraordinary training, but for the average man or woman today, who don’t have those luxuries, the Cold Steel Magnum Tanto XII CPM V3, with study and practice, can give you an edge you otherwise might not have considered. There are quite a few retailers selling this fine blade, Amazon, not the least of them. Never forget the blade- there are times and places where it is still superior to firearms…

Curious, shouldn’t San Mai have a Clay Tempered edge ?
@Kris_Stiletto4 ай бұрын
No. This is a VG-10, Japanese San Mai (3 Layer) SS Blade. It's made by Forge Wielding 3 Layers of Steel together. In this case, with VG-10, you have an inner core of VG-10, SS, for Edge Holding, a outer layers of Japanese, 420J, SS, to give the Blade Toughness and added Stain and Corrosion Resistance. San Mai Steel used to be considered very Premium, before the time of Powdered Steels... :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)

Right on! The 3V Model is sweet. But, so is the San Mai Version, too... :-) just note that mine are from the Old, Original Cold Steel Company. The New GSM, Cold Steel Company has different markings. I haven't seen a New GSM Magnum Tanto. But, I woulda bet that the New Magnum Tantos have New Markings... If you're getting an older one, then, mine would be good to use as a reference. :-) Note: The New Cold Steel Models are nice, too... :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)

I think Cold Steel just has such a ridiculous full retail price and they made so many knives in certain models that prices are down. On midway USA I got the San Mai 12 inch Warcraft for $187 which goes for $499 on Cold Steel's website. I got the 7.5 inch Recon Scout for $195 at Midway which is $475 on Cold Steel's website. Cold Steel prices are all over the place.

Yes. That's how they've always done. The CS Website always has things listed at high retail. But, you can always pay the Street Price at their Authorized CS Dealers, like MidwayUSA.com and the KnifeCenter.com, BladeHQ.com and others. I totally agree. :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)

opticsplanet has the nightfall (full blacked out) tanto xii for 270, but the shorter tanto ii for over 300 (both of which no one has *anywhere* in stock), yet the satin 3v xii is under 200. Makes no sense lol

Call me crazy.. I got that 12 in master tanto xii in 3v, THEN modified the tip to be a more traditional willow leaf style without the hard corner.. Yes I did. It was really difficult and took a long time of careful hand honing until it was the best it could be. Now, I like it much better. It cuts better, is sharper, and most importantly, penetrates (stabs) much much better. Also... You will really hate me now if you haven't yet, lol, I cord wrapped the handle (diamond style) with bank line making the handle thicker and vastly improving the grip (I have large hands). I can always easily remove the wrap as it is directly over the standard manufactured handle. It's big now, not for everyone but my hand won't slip, and it's waterproof. I've been known to EDC the finished product especially in the summer with shorts when it's less convenient to carry the trailmaster (in 3v of course. .lol).

3 v is better.
@Kris_Stiletto Жыл бұрын
True, 3V is tough. But, San Mai SS is one of the best ways to make a rust resistant 12" SS Combat Blade with great edge retention and impact resistantance. SS, with good to great edge retention, by itself, tends to be too brittle for Blades longer than 12 inches. That's why long Machetes, Swords, and Camp Knives are almost always some sort of Carbon Steel; it's more impact resistant. :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)
