I thought the convertible was the best 'setting' for this grille from the first ordinary G43 I saw on the road. I don't dislike the grille especially anyway. I would prefer that they keep it 'special' to certain models, I'm not OK with it just being on everything. I like the big notch above which the badge sits in, but I think that will become more standard, don't know how I'll feel about the deep grilles once/if they loose their monopoly on this element. For me, for this grille convertible>coupe>probably touring, and I think it suits the M3 saloon the least, but even if I were BMW it still has to have the same treatment as the others.

I think anyone looking at a convertible is pretty much aware of these compromises. For someone who goes for a convertible and wants something fast I bet it works out.

I recently bought my first ever convertible, albeit different from this as it’s a Porsche 718 Boxster. Honestly it just gives me something a hard top could never do, no matter how busy or bad a week I’ve had, take the Boxster out for a roof down blast and it just clears my head and cheers me up.

Yeah, I had a 991 C2S Cab and I sold it as my kids couldn’t fit in the back any longer. Have a coupe now and miss having the drop top. Considering switching to one of these as we can all enjoy the fresh air.

Every car reviewer in a convertible talks about scuttle shake, added weight n lower rigidity in comparison to the coupe sister. That’s new or even the point for us existing convertible drivers. We accept these compromises for the open air sensation, added aural pleasure and looks. And no one living in a place with 3.75 days of good weather should even try to review a convertible! So rather than always slamming a convertible vs it’s coupe sister, I would like a reviewer to compare it with other convertibles, whether same make and by other manufacturers . Personally I’d subscribe to a reviewer who only tests convertibles and nothing else…especially if he/she lives in Nice, Dubai or Miami

I am upset with this car review. Concerned critic. The most part of the video you keep saying how bad this M4 is compared to the Hard Top. We buyers don't want to listen how bad it is. We want to listen to the positive experiences we can draw from this car. That is the exact reason BMW probably gave it to you to review. There are very few open top convertibles out in the market that you can imagine yourself really pushing as far as speed limits and burnouts go.This is one of those very few cars that are not about luxury, eg the LC500, the Bentley GTC, the Astons, the . 10:43 Guy called it lethargic. Your point is not to compare this to the hardtop but to other convertibles in the market. Explaining why this gains the edge over those, but I'm guessing you mustn't have reviewed much cars so the lack of experience shows. Most of the people who come to watch this car review, do it because they are considering a purchase. I narrowed down to this as one of the best sport convertible. Don't @ me about the Porsches and the Ferraris. They don't do what this will do. They don't belong where this belongs. All I got from the most part of this review is that the car is a terrible make. The steering will give me the creeps. It's heavier than a Bentley around corners and probably won't be able to even drift. I felt like changing my decision. They shouldn't have offered this car for you to review.

People who have an issue with convertibles fall into 2 brackets Afraid people will think they're gay (because they're homophobic or in the closet) Think they're Lewis Hamilton when they're driving to the shops. Even funnier when they moan about weight but look like Fat Joe or Big Pun. If you're a track addict, fine, I get it. For general road use a convertible is so much fun.

Having spent a week with the standard 420i convertible, with the roof up it really did have good sound insulation in the cabin. It was so much better than I expected so in my eyes the M4 convertible can only be good.

Around 7:50 he’s talking about it not having a wind deflector, but it does! It gets stowed in between the rear seat and trunk! If you pop it in, it does a lot to keep heat In and stop the buffer sound just saying

Great review Joe and spot on for me when you were thinking about those comparing the 8 to the 4, exactly where my mind was going thinking through it until the massive price hikes pretty much made my mind up. however do disagree with your view on the rear seats on the g83, I’m lucky enough to have one and the back seats are actually pretty spacious for a 6 footer (my son) with the CBS, but yeah, not for a few hours for sure! All things said, it’s a fantastic machine and have finally stopped surfing autotrader for cars.. for me, that says it all.

I have 2020 F83 hard top convertible. It’s like two cars in one. When the weight is over the rear wheels it has lower center of gravity and traction is improved. I will never take it to its limits but so much fun hearing the exhaust and wind blowing through the car.

Love this review Joe. At 7:50 you mentioned that the M4 does not have a wind deflector. Recently got the M440i convertible and it has a wind deflector stored behind the rear seat. It folds open and slots into the holes beside the rear passenger seats and it works really well. I would expect the M4 to have the same wind deflector 😊

Joe, not being a convertible fan, misses the point here. If, like me, you love them, you don’t judge a convertible by direct and fussy comparison with a tin top. I’ve been driving M cars since 2001 and I’d have an M5 as my car forever (I’ve had four of them) if I didn’t want a convertible. Much of the criticism is based around marginal (and questionable) performance issues. I’m properly trained to drive M cars and very few owners will be truly able to tell the difference between the soft and hard top versions.

I'm fairly certain most G80/82 owners would be able to tell this 83 feels very average in comparison, anyone who can't immediately feel the 1980's scuttle shake is a) completely useless at driving or b) lying to themselves. I'm currently in a Z4 and it feels miles better, chassis wise you wouldn't know it has the roof chopped off.

Not to lie for anyone... Those kidney grills look better with EU horizontal plate.. US & Japanese squared plates looks comical as Charlie Chaplin moustache.... M4 Cabriolet looks the best with this grill than other shapes of 3 or 4 series..

Joe, can you please fix the frame rate recording settings of your Go-Pro cameras? They should all be set to the same frame rate (25fps), but instead it looks like some are set to 24fps, which results in 1 frame per second repeated, making those shots look awkward, assuming you're editing your videos at 25fps.

I have an M135i convertible (US E88) and feel no similarities with the steering wheel that you describe. It may be that the car is quite a bit smaller, but i feel very connected and comfortable steering from low speeds up to 150mph.

I had a 01 E46 M3 and although I loved that car at first It was atleast for me not a good convertible. Rattle and creek sounds, on top it felt very heavy especially low rpms when your not on it just driving it around. After a few months I got rid of it and never looked back. Only thought as far as a M car it should have passed on the vert. BMW adds too much weight and you know when you drive a vert M car, its very noticeable how compromised it is. I loved that motor and with a short shifter it was still fun to drive.
