Beautiful rendition of Sting and Miller's song.I just listened to them singing it. Plus I'm so moved to watch Gabriella play a duet with her Dad. Family. What a great Dad he must be, and what a great daughter Gabriella has to be.I've listened to all her videos I can find on KZbin-many times. It's what I do every morning. I wish there were a new one every day. I can't speak for others, but I feel honored that Gabriella has let me into her life a little bit more. This joy I believe is part of the reason for his encouraging her & teaching her to fingerpick. It's obvious that they share a great joy in it. I obviously agree, although I think Gabriella said in the FBS video that she taught herself. That she picked up her's Dad's guitar when she was 12 without his knowing it, and she didn't like playing at first. (Maybe she said all of that on her Facebook page.) Even if her Dad just offered encouragement and an occasional hint, that's superb. I bet he shoots the videos. Or maybe her Mom does. Or a friend. She's Swedish, yet she seems so American. And she's so soft-spoken, modest, and down-to-earth, yet she's not shy about putting herself forward. Great combination.

I love that Gabriella shares a love of music with her father and a talent. Please accept my comments as compliments to her and in no way criticisms of him, but comparing the two show what a talented guitar player she is: 1. Relaxed and calm 2. Subtle hands 3. Concentrating on her playing without struggling 4. Never a sound as her hands glide over the guitar strings (not once in the many videos I have watched of her playing) The best part....the pair of wonderful smiles when they look at each other.

The sound is actually from a studio recording. You can hear it in the quality, but also there are some studio chair squeaks in the silences. The guitars are recorded in stereo as well. It’s hard to be sure, but given how much reverb there is and the spread of the guitar sounds I’d guess that they each were recorded with a fairly close XY pattern using cardioid condensers. That would capture the low frequencies we’re hearing while still preserving high end. They could also have blended in a center mic like an RE20 or a AKG C414, but it’s impossible to tell. The point is yes they work well together and have a great musical relationship, but what you’re hearing is a studio performance. It was recorded, edited (maybe), mixed and possibly even mastered a little before they made this video. Studio performances are often very different from live ones so if you want to see what her live performance is like you’ll have to go back to some of her older videos. That being said, they really do make excellent music together and a good/passionate studio performance is often harder than a live one. It’s a good performance, just not the one that most people expect. Also their timing is almost perfect.
