Prince improved the speed of the music...flavored the sound to a level that it needed to move further from its place...and it did. " just let me hear the bass" he picked the instruments, directively...at the same time directed the audience involvement...Who does that? Was something missing? ABSOLUTELY.

@@HaroldGeorge-pe8gz well, it sounds good to me. BTW as much as I loveeee Prince, he din't knew how to get the best out of live stage collaborations. You can call it a Miles' revenge, I call it a lose opportunity. Competition isn't everything.

@@HaroldGeorge-pe8gz I said "live stage collaborations" not studio musicians for hire, BUT you make my point even more, I'm pretty sure Brown Mark had all kinds of opportunities to fit/be-ready/hit Prince's needs/requests, I mean he worked for him 24 hrs, Sting din't. BTW can you elaborate on "Brown Mark on bass" part? may be you can guide me and give me the timeline marks, seems like you know precisely.

@@HaroldGeorge-pe8gz Actually, you talk a lot, brag a lot BUT still you don't take time to enlightening me. Anyone can say "this is good or bad" still that doesn't mean anything. You were there that night? good for you, so as many fans from the org, and all the Prince groups etc. does that make your statement have a point? NOPE. Prince agreeing with me or not is not even part of the conversation, you actually sound like a blind Prince fanboy. To me Prince is the best thing ever, still I will not blind my self for the sake of winning a debate. AND no I can't tell you the different parts their playing, but that's not my point and it will never be, I'm not an expert, are you? in the other hand YOU CAN'T elaborate any statement you just did, because mentioning other artists and saying "I was there and and we all saw it." just shows how bad your out of arguments and that you can't debate. I can say the same exact things you just said, and will do not change anything and do not be productive and will not add anything to conversation. Enlight me expert, please.

I was at the previous night's gig (13th Aug 86). There was a bootleg vinyl released of the 14th (the third of a three night stint) which is where I first heard this. Have to say it was an amazing show, incredibly tight but with a real loose feel. They made it all seem so easy but also as if it was a one-off improvised event. "Luuuunn-duuuunn!" The crowd got increasingly into it and by the end one could tell everyone knew they had seen a very special performance. The screaming for encores went on and on and on - and there was an unmistakable sense of everyone having experienced something very special. What a night........what a band.....what a guy.

I love everything Princey does, but I love when he covers another artist.....he does it better than the original.....the stones is ironically special....because it seems Mick GENUINELY loved Prince, appreciated his talent

Ironically enough, during a 1981 concert in Chicago opening up for The Rolling Stones was Prince & The Revolution. After about the 3rd or 4th song, the crowd booed them from the stage. Even going so far as to throw beer bottles at them. You can hear an excerpt of the crowd booing them as Prince later used a snippet of it as a sample on Pop Life

They can’t take down the rendition of Radiohead’s Creep that Prince did at Coachella, and I’m so glad because it’s the best version of that song ever. They tried to have it removed but because it’s not his song, it didn’t work. That’s probably what happened with this too.

I love this! Man, in the 80s we are all walking around the Twin Cities to Prince's soundtrack, his sounds in our heads and all, but I think most of us took it for granted. I mean, we knew he was great, just not HOW great. We were spoiled... his various bandmates were so fucking good as well. So, so good. Now I listen to this for the first time, and hear Ron Wood's solo, and imagine if Prince had really cut loose. Ron Wood, a hero in the Pantheon, but nowhere near what Prince was capable of.

Sting's tried his hand at funky slap here - but this technique was never his forte, and he is more keen on doublebass jazz bass playing. Yikes... I love Sting and the Police like crazy, but this reminded me of the time I saw the late great producer George Martin say on film that Sting was not a very competent bassist. He completely dropped his knickers in that bass performance. Cringeworthy as heck. I can't imagine why he accepted doing this, while he was absolutely nowhere near prepared.

Some say Prince led Sting into that chaos because he poached Miles Davis's bass player. Sting didn't just screw up. He also got a roasting from Prince with audience participation. That's gotta hurt.
