Have you touched the Injection pump screw at all? just curious. If you haven't i wouldn't bother until you put an inter-cooler on. These 1HZs love the boost if they stay cool, my mates 75 series runs 20 psi with a big water to air cooler and he drives it like a mad man with no engine issues. its not boost that will kill it. its the heat that does. The top of the pistons is quite thin and when they get hot they melt.

Mate, are you shifting up at around 3000 rpm? Maximum power of the stock 1HZ is at 3900 rpm and overall best acceleration occurs if you rev it a bit over 4000. Main reason being that after each up shift you wind up at a really low power output.
@WillsLandcruiser4 жыл бұрын
That’s definitely a fair point. I was being a bit conservative on the engine because at the time I wasn’t sure if it’d like being pushed too hard but you are dead right about that- I was shifting too early to get maximum power
@phalanx38034 жыл бұрын
@@WillsLandcruiser you said you where putting your foot down i dont know if its a problem with the turbo but stock you can over fuel it and it will start to retard the engine. also a good speed test would be going from 100 to 120 aka over taking some dipshit doing 100 in a 110 zone i always get stuck behind that one dipshit going 10km's under the limit when going to Melbourne and after Ouyen there are no dedicated overtaking spots. same goes with over taking trucks there a few places to overtake trucks around here.

Did you do a trailer towing test pre turbo. I have a HZJ75 that does a lot of hauling with a 2000kg GVM trailer and have, repeatedly, heard that if you tow with a 1h don't turbo it.
@WillsLandcruiser3 жыл бұрын
Yeah look, naturally your EGTs are going to be more of a factor with a turbocharged vehicle because of the back pressure that the turbo creates, storing the heat in the combustion chamber. If you do a lot of towing, it’d absolutely be safer to the leave the HZ naturally aspirated. But you could potentially still get away with a turbo if you had a really good intercooler and an incredibly safe tune. I have done a little bit of towing since the turbo, intercooler and tune and it holds up well. Nothing like the towing you do though

Hi Dear, I had been watching your 105 Series videos & it's modifications and I love that. I am from Pakistan and I intend to buy one 105 1HZ Cruiser. Actually, I have spot one UN used 105 whose complete code is HZJ105R-GNMNS. Its GX variat mentioned on the rare. I heard its bomb proof engine but its very sluggish. 1- Kindly confirm that it is only sluggish or under power as well as I might be doing off-roading and up-hilll trips. 2- What's the fuel economy of this engine over normal foot as it will be my daily driven car? 3- How many seconds does it take from 0 to 100 km/l? As per your video, it's 35 seconds, and by installing Turbo its 28 seconds. Is there any downside of installing Turbo or any impact on the engine in the long term. 4- If I compromise on acceleration of 1HZ, then what about its off-road and up-hill performance as I used to do two or three off road trips in a year along with my family in remote areas so it should be reliable as well like nothing. 5- Do you recommend to swap it with 1HD FTE along with transmission and wiring is costing me here in Islamabad around 2.5 Million Rupees. 6- Does it have front, central and rare diff locks pre installed by Toyota? 7- Does it has OBDII port and ECU or computer? Can we do 1HZ chip tunning like uni chip Etc. I am currently using 2.7L Patrol Prado 2010 model and have covered the whole Northern areas of Pakistan with some good off-road trips and am happy with it. It's also sluggish, but recently, I bought GAN GA+ chip tunning, which is giving me more power but I am not sure it can be used with 105 as it connects with OBDII port. Thank you

Will's Landcruiser Mods when I turbo’d my cruiser (I actually have the exact same turbo and manifold) plus a top mount intercooler when it was put on the Dyno, the fuel ratio was 26/1 @ 10-11psi. Maxed the stock fuel pumps efficiency out at 16psi 21/1 fuel. Doesn’t blow any smoke, egt’s on the highway are under 250. Long pulls can’t get them past 550. My probe is in the same spot as yours. Ended up with about 50% power and about 80% torque over stock. Quite pleasant to drive.

High 14L per 100... That doesn't sound right at all. My standard 1hz gets 12.5-13. I would hope adding a turbo would get me down to 11.5-12L else it's not worth it. Can't believe you're comparing 14.8 and now with a turbo 14.5 that's not even logical

Yeah look mate it depends entirely on your vehicle and what condition the 1HZ is in and how you drive it. For a while I was getting 13L/h consistently but over time I’ve started driving a few k’s faster everywhere, tightened up the accelerator cable so I can put my foot down further, it wasn’t really a fair test so I can’t truly give an accurate before and after because there were too many changes

@@WillsLandcruiser thats fair enough mate. honest reply. sorry if I came across harsh. not hating on your videos. perhaps you need to do a more long and accurate drive something around 400ks or more on a tank. before and after to therefore get a more accurate reading when dividing. 80ks is not long at all , too many variables you're right. and also a tip. I use www.petrolcostcalculator.com.au/litres-per-100-km/ that is so easy to use. and you just need to refill your tank at any servo to see what you have drained since full and check your spedo you zeroed out at the start of the fill up. thats the only two numbers you need

Paul Griffiths Cheers mate glad to hear you’re not hating on my videos! 😂 I was just going for a general guide to show it doesn’t massively increase fuel consumption or anything. A longer drive would be way smarter for a good fuel consumption reading and give a way more accurate reading. That calculator looks like a good thing too! That’d make life easier!

You don't have to limit your boost pressure by wastegate but you can do this by amount of fuel. To make it more clear: Diesel engines can run as lean as over 100 AFR or as rich as 10 AFR. In first case you have very lean burn, very cold exhaust and not much power. This will never damage your engine no matter how many psi (bar) of boost you have. In second case you have very hot rich burn very hot exhaust. In this case even with very small boost you can easily kill your engine. Now, you can't have too much boost without extra fuel. In order to get boost you need exhaust gas and the more you have exhaus gas the more it spins your turbo and the more you have boost. So, by limiting amount of fuel you kill a few birds with one stone. 1. Good fuel economy, 2. Low exhaust temperature, 3 boost pressure you need. Many people add extra fuel and limit the boost pressure by setting up wastegate and think it is all good.... No this is not good. You can have 5 psi of boost and too much fuel and this will kill your engine sooner or later. BTW I am finishing my DIY 1HZ conversion right now. It is almost done. The only one thing I am missing is boost compensator.

@@WillsLandcruiser You have to be very careful as this engine is indirect injected and originally non turbo... But you have to remember one thing... your main enemy is heat.... Heat is what kills diesel engines. And as you understand heat is not coming from air when it comes to diesel engines, but heat is coming from fuel.... How many psi of boost you have is not an issue, but how much fuel is injected... Let's say you set your wastegate to open at 5 psi of boost but you added too much fuel... In this case you have a very good chance to burn your pistons...
