I totally agree about the socks but I take it a step further, at least in my hurricane supplies, I vacuum pack individual pairs of socks in the heavy duty food packaging. They take up way less room..

Alternative sources of warmth are really important. Folks carry insulation (keeps em warm), shelter (stops em getting chilled by wind and wet), but the third part of the triangle is having external sources of warmth, beyond a campfire. So, a stove, heatpads, sure, but could consider taking a hot drink or heated gloves. Just two or three options and you are in good shape to survive even the worst night.

Came here from Grunt Proof, like apparently many others! The baby wipes...wow...my son is 35 but he was born when I was playing Army. So we had baby wipes, which I quickly found indispensable and brought to the field with me. Got a ton of shit over it...until others figured out it was awesome to not be so skanked out week after week in the desert! LOL. Great video.

I have all your items (in one form or another) except for the jetboil. I prefer the Emberlit FireAnt stove. Can be used with wood, alcohol, or solid fuel. Never called it a woobie, but, winter or summer, I always have a poncho liner in my bag. Mountain Warfare School in Bridgeport CA taught us the importance of fresh socks. I suppose any infantry unit will eventually drive it home for you. Good advice here in this video. 👍🏼👍🏼🇺🇸

Of ALL the videos and I mean ALL ..... I can't remember hearing anyone say to bring wipes. I can't figure out why cause keeping that ol hinny clean is SOOOOOOO important. Not to mention the rest of you. The trick is to keep them moist until you need them. I suggest getting a box of them (I think they come 8 or 10 to a box). Then individually vacuum seal each pack so the water will not escape. Last thing you need is a dry wipe when you need a wet wipe. As for the socks, Absolutely. I would go as far as to say 2 or 3 sets in individual ziplocks that way you don't have dirty socks in with clean. Just to let you know I started watching your videos a few weeks ago. From the very first one I watched I deemed your channel as one of my Archive sites. I have been archiving videos from different channels on a wide range of topics since 2012. The goal is to have a working knowledge base that if the internet goes down people can still learn or relearn how to do things. Thank you Sir for your service and wisdom.

Robert Edwards... They do make these old fashion things called "books".. lol. I have SAS field manual, (hell, I still have my field pocket manual from basic training over 21 years ago. Lol) and need a book or two on edible & medicinal plants... And can't go wrong with a Bible if you're religious...
@robertedwards7749
@robertedwards7749 3 жыл бұрын
@@ThePatrick42044 you mean books for reading or for wiping? Maybe read it before you wipe? As for "Books" yes I am well aware of "Books" cause of the several hundred that I own. One of the many disadvantages of being older than you. I have a small Library. LOL Book learning is only good if it is backed by physical practice. You can read all you want about engine repair but this will not make you an engine repairman. I have met younger generations who have a college degree and are worthless because their schooling did not include hands on training as part of the education. I have met Guys, yes Guys who cant even change a tire. Very sad. And a very big definitely YES on keeping my bible in my 3 Day Assault pack as part of my EDC and BOB. Bullets, Bible and Bandaides. My service was about 5 decades ago but Yes, I still have my USAF Code of Conduct and a few other manuals. You have Brain memory and Muscle memory. Both are useful separately but together they are invaluable. Have a few plant guides but THIS is where you really need hands on experience. If you are about to eat something you better know what it is you are about to stick in your mouth in ALL four seasons or you could be in serious trouble. One last thought, books are better for wiping than magazines, cause magazine paper is too slick! LOL Be Prepared, Be Safe and Be Strong. Carry on Mister!

Yo Stokermatic. I have to tell you something you may like. I'm old now but in 1981 I worked at this manufacturer where we made "Stokematics." They were a free standing home furnace/heater units that ran on wood pellets or coal chunks. They hung out in the corner of your house or cabin and warmed the place up when it was cold. My job was to do the final assembly and wrapping / packaging up of these things as we were sending them out to our customers. I have the scars on my hands to prove this. I haven't heard the term "Stokermatic" for many a moon but it's nice to hear that word again and to see your video. Randall does great work and I'm sure you do too. Nothing else to report so I am returning to base..BW

I use to cheat in basic training (wool socks tore me up, wore other socks inside the wool so my feet didn't itch so much) that was about 21+ years ago. I really miss my military days...

I often dip into these survivalist prep type vid, just occasionally I see an interesting thing that I could use for my normal hiking activities. Now bear in mind I'm based in the UK so there's no threat of a zombie invasion here or a total implosion of society. We play too much sport. so that will never happen. However, in my youth when I served in the Cdo Bde, survival was a skill we would practice, it did not include jet boil. Basically what we carried in our Arctic Smock and a belt order had to give us enough to survive 48 hours and enough tools on which to then start foraging and go into deep survival mode. That's what prep and survival should really be about. It's all about when it goes wrong. Anyway, just an observation. I'm not slagging you off mate.
