One thing that is so attractive about this aircraft is the visibility from the pilot’s seat. Especially forward over the instrument panel and engine cowling. 👍🏼

By far, the best 701 video I've seen. I flew the 701 ~10 years ago when on a business trip to St. Louis (and yes, it's a haul to Mexico by car). Just an amazing airplane. I come from lots of hang gliding and sailplanes, and got my powered SEL driving mostly C-150's, but got really bored. The slow speed range and amazing maneuverability of this platform for fun, close to terrain flying is impossible to describe - You have to do it to appreciate it. Closest I got was getting tailwheel endorsed in a Citabria, but even that paled to flying the 701. Fast forward, I'm now recently retired...And thinking.

Simply the best. I flew one in Thailand at the age of 63 and had a bush flying demo. Great fun and safe as houses.

Love watching the Zenith videos. I had the chance to go to the summer rudder building workshop for my birthday Aug of 18, Had an awesome time at the Zenith factory with Roger and Steve. I highly recommend the experience if you get the chance. I hope to find other Zenith owners in my area of WI. Building will probably be a retirement project for me so I've got a couple years to "network" :) Thanks for the great video Roger, exactly the kind of farm flying I hope to do! Nick

Have t say I really enjoy watching your projects. Ever since my uncle an grandpa taught me how to fly when I was twelve I have been wanting Yvonne of my own but haven't had the right assistance. I would love to spend some time with you building one so I can actually say that I built one punch I would learn all the specs. Thank you. Great shows.

Nice work Roger. I'd love to see one of these type videos on the 650B! After 400 hours in it (1,300 overall) I still find it difficult to keep that nose wheel off. Many landings have a bit of a clunk as the nose drops. About 25% of the time I can get a nice nose up roll out but only if I carry a fair amount of speed onto the runway like 65 mph +. maybe it's me and you can set me straight! Still enjoy the bird though...fun to fly and good performance and speed from my UL 350 iS. All the best Roger...stay safe and keep up the good work!

If I fly this one in MS Flight sim, it can do things that no other plane can. The XCubs, Kitfoxes, Zlins, modded or not, none of them can come close to the STOL capability of this one. It’s not a comfy cruiser, but it will go places that you just wouldn’t believe. If you can get the wheels down, you land. No looping, bouncing, dancing,… it stays planted where you put it, and stops on a dime. Crazy short. Good tip for the short take-offs, I thought it was constant back pressure on the stick, instead of letting go a bit.

MSFS flight model currently can't represent all the nuances of the craft's behavior, although SimWorks managed to squeeze the best out of the options available, and it's my aircraft of choice for virtual trip through South America. Still, if you want to experience the 701 as real as it gets, take a look at payware SP-30 for X-Plane 11. It's basically reinforced 701, and is fantastic in terms of details and realism. Way beyond A2A study level models, if you know what I mean

Hi Roger, I realy liked the video. I currently fly a 701 and love the aircraft. Most of my flights have been on wheels the same as in your video. I love the way it can slip to loose altitude fast without increasing the airspeed. My question is now that I am on floats is it still possible to slip the aircraft or will the extra drag of the floats pull it into a flat spin?
@AV8R_14 жыл бұрын
I love the CH750, but I just can’t see myself flying with my knees up like that. I like a legs stretched out position. I especially couldn’t fly with my knees in front of the edge of the panel like that. It looks like it’s just waiting to rip your legs off if you crash. I would really have to sit in one I guess, To see for sure. It looks like a STOL beast, and I would love an airplane like that on tricycle gear!

Great vid- I am convinced about the Zenith- but please- I fly power and instruct sailplanes- ultimate performance (glide) is obtained by NOT stirring the stick- every control input causes drag- I cant take my eyes off the stick going round and round- what is the reason- ???
@jjohnston945 жыл бұрын
Habit. I had an instructor who did the same thing. On the whole, the flight was smooth, but at the micro level, it was a non-stop series of tiny, fast control inputs.

Really want one a Zenith it looks like a great Stol, which is something I always wanted to fly, but sadly I’m now disabled and can’t work so my flying days are probably over unless I win the lottery lol 😂 it’s all good though, I had a long flying career between my Air Force days and when I was able to maintain my ppl, probably flew in one form or another for 30 years, now I put in lots of hours in Microsoft flight simulator 👍😂

I will say, I like a lot about this aircraft (takeoff & landing distance, forward/downward vis at 10 & 2 o'clock, backseat haul capacity, unpanel arm, left hand throttle, doors). However, the cruise speed an issue. Can I get to 125 with a 180 HP Viking or comparable Aeromomentum?

Take a look at the CH 750 Cruzer model which was developed specifically for more speed, while offering the advantages of the CH 750 series.

be carefull and pray the engine never quits if ir does when you are low and slow. you are toast without power there is no controll below 56 mph if you value your health get a j3 it will outperform the 701 in every thing its safe and should you screw up you chances of survival are much much better

Based on reports and from things I've heard anecdotally (admittedly that's not hard evidence, but I think it can be a good indication of particular trends as long as it's taken with a grain of salt), apparently - and again, I'm not saying this is unfalsifiably true, but I feel it would be remiss if I didn't mention it and put the information out there so you can make up your own mind - but apparently, that's what she said.

When I will try to land exactly as you with flying style like "mixing dough" I will get strong kick to my ass from my instructor and he will tear my pilot licence. Why like this? Every good pilot feel own aircraft and don´t must use this style of piloting. Maybe in STOL aircraft but every other aircraft can be very unpredictible with this style of landing. Only note for other beginner pilots.
