This video was made to help you navigate the new HX Stomp XL's global settings menu and set up the device for use in stomp switch (or as I kept referring to it in the video - footswitch) mode. In this configuration, the 6 stomps on the unit will act in similar fashion to if you had an analog board with separate pedals for separate functions. Stomp switch mode will give you a ton of different sounds in one preset since you're able to stack different effects together, however you might find that you end up doing a bit of tap dancing to get to the right combination of effects.
It's great for musicians that are making improvisation-based music, or if you need to wing a set on the fly. You'll end up with one or two presets that can go a long way.

Alex thanks for the great video, I was following your guide and had my FS7 and 8 set to snapshot with my external 2 switch Ampero, and when I press the foot switch it changes to the next (for example from snapshot 1 to 2) but when I release it, it changes to the snapshot 3, so basically I am stuck with 1 and 3 or 2 and 4.... please advise if you know a solution to this....best regards (btw it's not a malfunction of the external foot switch, I tried with others)

Thanks Alex for the wonderful videos. What is the difference between the Stomp system in this video versus the "Line 6 Helix LT Modeling Electric Guitar Processor". I'm an acoustic violin player and personally love the Guarneri range deep tones. Therefore the likelihood of me attempting to convert the electric violin tone to a closest-to-Guarneri is very high. However I'm sort of confused between the two Lone 6 products. Pls advise. Thanks in advance.

Hi Manoj - the biggest difference is that the Helix LT has a lot more digital signal processing power, can use more effects at once, and obviously has physical differences like more footswitches and an expression pedal. I’ve played violin a lot with my Helix units and I don’t find that I need very many effects at a given moment. I think you’ll find that the XL is more than enough in most situations! Have you heard some of my Helix violin videos? I made a few back in Autumn 2019

I have a really DUMB question. How do I create a new preset that allows me to use the switches to turn effects on and off? I have downloaded presets that allow me to do that. But when I create my own and switch to 'play view' I just have empty boxes and no way to turn the individual effects on or off. Basically, I want to create my own virtual pedalboard. Thanks for your help.

Not a dumb question - it’s not particularly obvious the first time you go to do it. On the desktop editor, select the block and halfway down the screen on the right there’s a window that says bypass/controller assign. The first drop down menu is selecting the function - make sure it says bypass. Then the menu under that will assign that function to a footswitch.

Yes! You’ll find that in global settings. Set the unit up for stompswitch mode, then set up snapshot selection as latching. When you hit the mode button, it’ll jump to a snapshot screen and you can switch between stuff. Hit mode again and it’ll go back to stomps.

Also, if you have a midi controller you can set that for snapshots and use the Stomp mode at the same time.

Depends on what you're planning on using it for. How much do you tend to rely on wet effects? How are you currently using the regular Stomp?

To my understanding the DSP on both units is the same so, the HX Stomp and XL will be able to run the same amount of effects it’s just the XL has more foot switches to give you some more freedom. If you’re trying to go with the XL and ditch all the external pedals, the upgrade won’t accomplish that but moving up to an LT would likely eliminate every external pedal you are using on the FX loop.

Using this mode can I set an output without Cab sim to go through a real amp?

You’ll have to set that up in each preset. Just create two signal paths - one with cab simulation, one without. One path is panned solely to the left output, the other to the right.

I have asked many people with no luck - so I will ask you. What is best settings to use headphones with a HX stomp? My distortions thru headphones sound very fizzy - nothing like it sounds going thru an amp or speakers. I have tried both low and high impedance headphones. And my headphones are expensive- all cost over $300. Clean tones and effects sound great. Distortion tones sound horrible. Please help.

Hey - I think a lot of people have this problem. First of all, I try to create entirely separate presets for headphone practice. What works well on speakers at stage volume doesn’t always work in headphones. I would suggest on your presets that you use with headphones, introduce a dramatic high cut in the cab block when you engage a higher level of distortion. You can do this in snapshot mode, or with a parameter change in Stompswitch mode

I've had problems with my HX Stomp Presets sounding fizzy, and some other tonal issues that were resolved by doing a Factory Reset.
