I know the feeling. Many of the trucks I drove before I retired had fly-by-wire accelerators. The classic was when my local truck hadn’t been plugged in overnight when it was cold out. The early morning crew almost totally drained the battery on my truck while starting it. They idled it into the garage. I loaded my truck and tried to drive it off our lot. No accelerator response. The mechanic, whose shop was almost half a mile away, showed up and had to disconnect both battery cables for five minutes. When he re-connected the cables everything on the truck worked perfectly. Computerized engines! No further comment.

G’day Josh, Sounded like the def pump was running dry. Check the breather on your def tank. Sometimes the def fluid crystallises in the breather not letting air in so creating a vacuum and not letting the pump suck the def fluid out. Also check the filter on the bottom of the pickup in the tank if it’s not the breather, maybe any other filters there, good luck.

Agreed on the blocked injector! Also don't buy AdBlue that has been stored in the sun, It will crystalize! You frequently see the AdBlue at Gas Stations piled up in the window in the blazing sun. You will notice they sell it in cardboard boxes now, but the sun still gets in at the top over time. Doing multiple forced regens will just crack the Diesel Particulate Filter. Also don't run the engine with low AdBlue. It Crystalizes when it dries up as you can see where it was spilled down the side of the tank. Another way to block your DPF is to run the engine with a dirty Air Filter, Insufficient Combustion = Soot. The dealer may try to sell you a new DPF but you can have the (old) blocked one cleaned in situ, or by a specialist who will remove it and flush it out with solvents. Good luck, enjoyed the show.

@@keithfrazier2558 JH Diesel was working on vehicles that were street legal. Diesel Brothers was one of the first to get smacked. I believe they paid in excess of a $1M in fines. Now that Chevron was over turned by the Supreme Court, unless Congress addresses the law, the EPA will have no say, as un-elected bureaucrats will have no say. If I heard Josh correctly, he's only filled the DEF tank twice. I'd expect that a 3 year old tractor with 260+ hours to have consumed more than 2 tanks of DEF.
@keithfrazier2558
@keithfrazier2558 17 күн бұрын
@@gungadinn I know Chevron Deference has been overturned, but in the decision if you read the whole thing, says it would exclude "The Clean Air Act". Now to what extent, idk. Don't see it being worth the risk of deleting the emission system to get fined & fight in court. Much cheaper to buy an older tractor without it. As far as the amount of DEF he uses depends how much he uses the tractor. I know he cuts grass and drags manure. It would depend on hours and what work being done. Plowing fields and mowing takes up more RPM then a fence drag.

Not easily done with engines that are controlled by a computer (ECU). Some TYM models are "old-school", and don't need an ECU. They don't have a DEF system, only EGR. And that can be removed, but would void your warranty.

Similar scenario with my Kioti CK3510. Best reason I could get out of the dealer was a short in the engine wiring harness and a solenoid. Also had numbers on the hour meter screen. Dealer had to call Kioti to find out what the numbers meant. 6 weeks to get my tractor back! New old tractor thoughts going on right now-or drop down to a 25-26 hp tractor.. Agree... "Sick of New"!!! Three years back I traded off the 2016 RAM 6.7 Cummins for a little bit older 2009 Chevy 2500 6.0 Gasser, not the same pulling power but less headaches and my wallet is happier too. Then when I bought my first diesel tractor in 2021, I only went up to a JD 3039R so I didn't have to deal with DEF. Still have a DPF and and some sensors, but not near as bad. I learned the hard way with the RAM, being my first diesel and living in the northern climate that the new emissions systems weren't designed for those of us anywhere it freezes in the winter! Had well over $10k in repairs on the RAM before I 'tapped out'. "Live and Learn" they say... so I went back to as simple as I could and still maintain something 'semi nice'.

My bet would be the Def sensor. A mechanic told me that there is pretty much only one company that makes the sensors, and they're all junk. Our Vermeer plow at work has had the Def sensor replaced 3 times in the last 5 years. All 3 of our International bucket trucks had the sensors replaced at least once since new, and they're only a couple years old. Def is just not reliable, plain, and simple.

10:00 The smell is, because the tractor is cleaning the filter. This is also most likely how FULL your FILTER is, not how full your ADBLUE tank is. 11:00 It have all the correct lights for running the DPF regen cycle. Attempt at least another REGEN CYCLE if the first one fails. 12:44 because your filter is completely clogged, one cycle may not be able to even start regeneration let alone complete it properly Here is the kicker. As I posted in my other posts the DPF regen cycle running have conditions. one of them is speed higher than 30 KPH which you will never do on the farm. It should be disabled on tractors, but the manufacturer not always have complete control over the software. Here in the UK, if you go into the DEEP SETTINGS of London Buses the software of some of them is Chinese. You can be sure the engineers don't know Chinese

20:00 That temperature light can be a big issue as well. If when it comes, it goes away without doing regeneration cycle, make sure to STOP the vehicle as soon as it comes again and KEEP THE ENGINE RUNNING! Sometimes it starts the regeneration cycle and completes it. Run the manual regeneration cycle multiple times one after another. It can take over an hour to get to temperature and complete the cycle.

Hello Josh , here is some tip that may help you out in the future with emissions on these new machines and how to avoid issues 1 Only use high quality DEF fluid PEAK BLUE or PEAK BLUE PLATINUM DEF fluid, Walmart and other branded fluids do not have the quality control standards that peak has 2 when you put DEF in your machine use up the entire jug of DEF do not keep partial jugs to use later , once the seal is broken on the jug the DEF will begin to crystallize and that will cause codes on your machine 3 keep DEF out of direct sunlight and keep it a air conditioning environment when storing extra jugs of DEF , the sunlight will effect the quality of the DEF and cause codes for poor DEF quality on your machine 4 as you stated in the video these emissions systems are not designed to idle , what I do with my machine is if I am going to have it idling for more than 5 mins I will set the throttle to around 1500 rpm to keep the scr system hot enough to work 5 DEF only has a shelf life of around 12 months so if you don’t use up much DEF in a years time I would drain the tank and refill with fresh DEF just to avoid any potential DEF quality codes I hope you read this and it helps anyone that comes across this comment

The dpf filter requires heat to burn the soot that it traps. The cat needs to burn hot to work correctly. The DEF fluid turns the nitrogen dioxide into water, oxygen and N2. Diesel vehicles that spend all their time in the city get the same problem! Yes emissions systems are complex and problematic but clean air even in the countryside is necessary. Problem is that the complexity means home fixes are out of the question…. Best of luck Josh, hope they fix it quickly…

The regen system I believe now is on tractors over 25 hp. Everybody hates it. :/ I watched another video a couple months ago and I’m not positive. I know what I’m talking about but in a larger size cylinder on top of the engine a guy took a filter out of there and it almost looked ceramic to me and I guess it’s the filter that it’s supposed to burn off, but he said sometimes you have to take it out and just clean it , because the region system doesn’t do enough and eventually they clog up. I believe his was a 40 hp tractor and this filter was big. It was probably 6 to 8 inches wide and about 11 or 12 inches long shaped like a big tube and it was in a chamber on the exhaust system. I don’t know if that’s your problem but that’s what his was doing, his throttle wouldn’t throttle up because of back pressure and it’s setting off sensors. he took the filter out and used a hose with a spray nozzle on it to clean it because I guess it’s got a bunch of little holes in it and eventually clogged up with suit

Collecting the caps is a good idea, not just for reuse. Once you have too many of one type, do NOT throw them away! They are made of HDPE, one of the more valuable and easy to recycle plastics. Here in Germany some NGOs run collections like in "100 caps pay for 1 polio vaccination in africa!"

Equipment with def and dpf like to be ran all the time and constantly burn off the exhaust. Sitting is the one thing that will kill them. A guy near me had 7 brand new bobcat skid steers parked in a barn all with less than 5 hours. After sitting for 2 years the def crystalized and all 7 have to go to dealer to have the def system redone. Emissions equipment is a absolute headache

Armed forces are exempt from Adblue for a reason and so is Australia and New Zealand. I would say if it’s taking 3 years for 300 hours it’s gone out of date Adblue has a short shelf life and the containers should not be stored in sunlight like you often see in fuel stations.

Def need to go hot as hell, it gunks up the filter and injector otherwise, the regen burns of the captured particles, runing hard prolongs the time between regens

We have tons of def issues with our Volvo construction equipment. Most of what we have been told by Volvo is the machines aren’t running hard enough to burn off what needs to be. Have to limit idle and low rpm hrs and run the machine and regens are a pain in the rear but necessary.

You most likely have a clogged Catalytic filter and sometimes they have to replace or have yours rebuilt. On my class 8 truck they have to repair them after about 500K miles, if you drive mostly city driving it happens sooner. Some like your small tractor use a regen by pumping a butt load of fuel downstream of the turbo, the big guy uses DEF to to regen. You should let everything cool down after a regen. One truck I had would respond after a regen because everything was so hot , the comp, the starter, the wiring harness. so hot you couldn't touch it. Wait 30-45 mins with the hood open and it would start up and be fine. Maybe you can get into the habit of blowing out the rad. and screen after mowing just to clean things up, it couldn't hurt. A small leaf blower works well.

You also had another light come on with the red scr light after you got it to go into regen, it was the light in the book above the scr light telling you to take it to the dealer. It said it was a low urea level below 25%.

I do not work in a tractor shop, I work in a truck shop, there are multiple temperature sensors in the DPF scr system one of those could be bad. The def doser injector could be bad, the pump sounds like it's working on a truck when you turn the key off it sucks the DEF fluid back into the tank. I do not know on tractors how long before you have to have the DPF filter cleaned on a truck it is around 300,000 miles. And yes they probably only make it for dealers to see the codes that are shown!

DEF crystalizes in heat and cold temperatures. If you look at the fuel and DEF delivery systems at truck stops, the DEF is delivered from a temperature controlled pump on the island. They sell hundreds of gallons of DEF a day. Remove the pump from the tank and inspect for slime and crystals. Clean or replace the filter and re-install. If I heard you correctly, you've only consumed 2 tanks of DEF in the 3 years you've operated the tractor? I'd expect the tractor to do a regeneration at a minimum of once every 25 hours of operation.

DPF Filter is metal box filled with exotic metals sponge that have large surface area designed to catch diesel exhaust particles. Once it have enough particles trapped it saturates with ADBLUE and heats up to 600-700 degrees CELSIUS and burns all the sooth. The sooth can burn, because the exotic metals and ADBLUE make unique chemistry bond (magic) permitting the burning of the trapped particles. Doing manual regen like you did is what the filter is designed to do. Sometimes sensors fail, but in general is a reliable system. When it's doing DPF regen (Diesel Particle Filter) just let it run it and don't shut down the engine. This way you can ensure it completes a complete cycle and eliminate the chance of malfunction. I personally like the system, but I understand that it can cause major problems to anyone's work plans.

This is my concern. Haven't bought a tractor yet, but leaning towards an older 2014 MX5100 instead of a newer MX6000. It doesn't have DEF, but has DPF and I still don't want that for the simple reason it's another thing to go wrong. EDIT: I forgot to mention I heard that DEF breaks down after a while. With the fact you haven't used a lot I wonder if that maybe your case. I read it could cause deposits in the SCR system.

You absolutely should be running the ac while doing a regen if you suspect it's too clogged. Maybe even put cardboard over the radiator. Get it super hot so it can burn out the soot more effectively.

It's been quite a few years since my son quit being a tractor mechanic at a local dealership. But here in the central valley of California it's dairy country. And dairymen need their tractors to feed their cattle multiple times a day. They get extremely mad when their tractors won't run due to the Def system. My son said there was talk to get rid of the Def systems years ago.
