Growing up in East London, I was stopped and searched more times than I remember - it was just a part of being young. I was never found to have anything illegal on me. I don't remember a single time I was treated with anything other than ignorance and arrogance - they often got stroppy and disappointed about not finding anything. Regardless of whether you agree or disagree with random stop searching in general, the manner in which the policy is carried out shapes attitudes towards police into adulthood. Policing would be far more efficient with the support of the entire general public, rather than large swathes of us really rather wanting to avoid any interaction with them through distrust.

@@pebblepod30 As a New Yorker in London I can tell you from experience that NYPD suspect everyone but there was also gun crime plus drugs in NYC. The cops in NYC carry deadly weapons and they are looking for firearms among 13 million people. So their job was much tougher than in London. Met police are not preventing crime by stop & search because the real drug gangs, are not stopped by street searches. The ones running big operations got firearms and sell tons of class A drugs. Stopping a kid on the street, taking his Cannabis away is a laughable act. How is criminalizing a kid with a bit of pot gonna make London safer? Even if they take a knife away, is it that difficult to get a new knife? The lame excuses by Met to harass innocent people without probable cause are making enemies within those harassed communities. They never stopped anyone in my wealthy neighborhood because they know better than to harass people of means who can sue the police. When you got a big house, police are at your service, saying Yes! If you live in a poorer area Met assume everyone is fair game. Easy targets puff up Met statistics. 🤭

COMMUNITY policing and NOT LAZY policing is the key. The police MUST work with local communities to gain their trust and intelligence on local criminal so the police can laser focus resources on targeted stop and search. But, noooo.. the police want quick wins, they turn up with a van load every 2-3 weeks harassing locals doing useless stop and search when all the local drug dealers and criminals have legged it.. the only people left are law abiding citizens going about their business literally been put in a headlock when they complain about the search and told by the police we should be grateful. Trust me, I have seen it and I have been assault by the police. Victimised twice, by the police and criminals. 98-99% of these type of searches yield 0 results. All your get is pissed of residents, allegations of racism and criminals thriving in the community. If the figures were reversed and lazy policing works, non of us would be here arguing and commenting on stop and search. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.... All the riots in the last 30-40yrs can be traced back to this one issue. @@Wow55579 - That’s a bullshit argument, stop and search has to be intelligence led, that’s all people are asking for - I as a black business man, who doesn’t sell drugs or carry a knife was once stopped 3 times in one day!. I have been stopped so many times by the police I cannot count. How can anyone justify that, how is that in anyway productive. This is just about racism and ethnic profiling, and was going on long before there was a knife problem. This has been happening since the 1970s so your argument that if knife crime stopped “stop & search” would stop or decrease is quite frankly laughable. Stop and search will not fix knife crime - Instead of looking at this as a race thing - which is what society always does, it needs to be approached differently. It needs to be looked at as a symptom of the environment in which these young men live, and then needs to be tackled from the ground up. This is not new, Glasgow was the knife crime capital of Europe and by approaching this almost like it was a health problem they greatly reduced knife crime. London has a disproportionate problem when compared to the rest of the U.K. - however if you look at the figures for the increase in street crime, it rises almost perfectly with the reduction and cuts in the various youth services that previously stopped these kids getting into trouble in the first place. Policing alone cannot fix this......

Many, 'police officers' not only carry out illegal searches but are even outrageously casual in the way that they carry out these searches and flaunt the rules for carrying out illegal searches that they pretend to be illegal. It is often impossible to prove that the grounds for carrying out a search are illegal but it is possible to prove that the procedures for carrying out a search are being flouted. In the latter case the search can responsibly be concluded to be illegal and resisted or redress persued. But don't resist the search at the time unless you are prepared for a fight, (verbal or physical) and do not use physical force, (violence) unless you are sure that you can win, at the time AND later in court!

You would probably advocate for everyones home being searched on a regularly basis, and as you dont have anything to hide, then you theres nothing to worry about.

i think we need eternal campaigns forcing to treat each other nice and be good to each other and treat with respect. make tv commercials that show ads like this billboards around areas enforcing it and never take them down. the reason its getting worse in uk is because its drug addicts now raising children or there going out getting their education from other people in the area. we need campaigns that force doing the right thing helping others being kind to each other. all news reports on net about crime in uk is done by the under 30 male which is the problem with uk. if you google crimes throughout the years in uk you be shocked, police are here to stop the male urges of rape, murder, burglarly and theft. i hate when people say they hate the police its like they are saying i hate the police because they are stopping me breaking into a house and robbing the items. new campaigns as said promoting its cool to help each other and get along with people the occasional hello to strangers will suprise you as they will reply alright back to you or a nod to them will get them nodding back.

We fought and our ancestors laid down there lives for this because freedom is a human right of life. And im greatful my ancestors my native Heritage and my french canadian heritage on bolth sides i have family members who fought in many wars especially revolutionary war to gain our freedom. First off knives are a tool the weapon is a human first they disarmed you guys took your guns away and you let them and now wothout guns people are still evil so they use knives. So you guys ban knives (the most versatile tool used in everyday life) its pathetic. People will find a way to hurt someone regaurdless. Next england will ban glass bottles because they can be shattered into a weapon. Oh and what are you guys going to do next ban trees omg a stick can stab someone so you better cut them all down before someone gets hurt. Oh and no automobiles because people are starting to run people over so you goverment is going to ban those to you watch. What the people of england are dealing with is TYRRANY. To randomly stop and violate a person is wrong so stop and search is wrong. Until someone is convicted of a crime they are supposed to be presumed innocent well at least in my country with common cense. Seriously what is going through your head to where you honestly feel its ok for a random stranger to stop you touch you and look through your private property. Your goverment is almost communist at this point. Seriously why do you think its ok to violate someone?

@mhffc i do have a masters in metallurgy. Trade sciences. And some states such as newyork city has stop and frisk and its illegal by federal law. Illegal because it infringes on our civil rights. But state law enforces it and most people do not have the money to branch out a legal case to the supreme court. And yes there where natives that took place in the revolutionary war. Most native Americans in this country have been shit on ran of there land and where given small pox blankets so natives did not make it into the history books. The revolutionary war was the so called worst "indian war" the most "extensive indian war" overpowerd tribes where forced to fight for the british. For instance the mohawk sided with british hoping it would slow american expansion. Among others. My ancestors the iroquois fought for the american patriots as well as oneida. And another one of my ancestors of nipmuc Heritage also fought along american patriots. And when i was growing up being educated on our heritage and past i was presented a long lock of hair with dried skin attached. A beautiful relic of history (THE SCALP OF A REDCOAT). among other artifacts preserved from that time in history. So with that said keep talking shit, be but hurt all you want at the end of the day i get to go to sleep knowing im a free man unlike you. So have a good day ttl
