In Malaysia…this rice method is called ‘nasi lemak’- a national favourite!

Yes, nasi lemak is such a delicious and iconic dish! The combination of coconut milk rice, sambal, anchovies, peanuts, and boiled egg is absolutely irresistible. Do you have a favourite version or side to go with it? 😋"

When you drain the wash water before cooking save it for your pot plants. It’s very nutritious for them

Coconut milk with Jasmin rice is a popular dish in many Southeast Asian countries, especially in Thailand. It has a sweet, creamy flavour and a soft texture, which comes from cooking the rice with coconut milk. Coconut milk with Jasmin rice is a popular dish in Thai cuisine, especially in the southern regions where coconut milk is a key ingredient. It is often served with curries or other dishes, or it can be enjoyed as a dessert ka. Try it and let me know if you had any questions 😎 Thank you 🙏for visiting us, Rinda.😁

The rice meal you ate in Kuala Lumpur is called Nasi Lemak - a favourite breakfast meal for Malaysians as well as another favourite which is Roti Canai. Basic Nasi Lemak is creamy coconut rice, anchovies sambal, cucumber slices, boiled/fried egg and maybe fried peanuts. But now to cater for popular demand, a variety of sambal/sauce as well as side dishes are offered e.g. beef/chicken/seafood rendang, fried chicken/seafood etc. 😊

"na ka" There is no translation in English, the word "na ka" using by women or " na krup" using by men, we place these words at the end of sentence for politeness when we speaking or writing in Thai. Hope this helps. If you have questions re my recipe please let me know. Thank you 🙏

It tastes good, of course. Very rich, and fragrant, especially if you add pandan leaves and lemon grass as well. Rice cooked in coconut milk should only be eaten occasionally. It is not a healthy daily option. Plain rice cooked in water is a good daily option.
@thaikitchenwithrinda10 күн бұрын
Absolutely! Adding pandan leaves and lemongrass takes the flavor to the next level-so fragrant and delicious! 🌿🍚 And you're right, coconut milk rice is a treat best enjoyed in moderation, while plain rice is a great everyday staple. It's all about balance and enjoying different flavours when the occasion calls for it! 😎
@whymillie6 күн бұрын
That is not true. High quality coconut milk (without added sugar and chemical( s high in natural fat and protein. It's very healthy. It's a good vegan option. Serve with some nice vegetables.
@johnlay30406 күн бұрын
@whymillie The fat in coco milk is saturated fat. Our livers use it to make cholesterol. That's a medical fact. Don't say it's not true. Please talk to professional dieticians, not the half-baked vegans. You have been misled by the misinformed hippies. There is a high incidence of people with clogged up arteries in South-east Asia because their diets are very high in freshly squeezed coconut milk, not the "claimed high quality" milk as you know it in the West. In Indonesia nearly every food contains coco milk, not only meal, but dessert too. People don't live to their old age there. Heart attacks and strokes are the common causes. If you choose to live in a misleading world, please keep that to yourself, but don't drag other people into it.

There are so many delightful ways to cook and enjoy jasmine rice! While it’s often prepared by simply boiling it in water, why not try something new? Cooking jasmine rice with coconut milk is a popular twist that adds a wonderful flavor. For balance, I diluted the coconut milk with water to keep the rice from tasting too sweet (as coconut milk is a common ingredient in Thai desserts) and added a pinch of salt to enhance the savory notes. Of course, if you’d rather skip the salt, feel free to leave it out-you can still enjoy delicious coconut rice. We’d love to hear how it turns out for you! 😎

Great observation! What I meant was to minimize water in the recipe and let the coconut milk shine as the main liquid for flavor. A small amount of water helps balance things out during cooking. Thanks for pointing that out! 😁

Isn’t the caption an oxymoron, you just used water with coconut milk to cook the rice?
@thaikitchenwithrinda15 күн бұрын
Good catch! While it might seem like an oxymoron, the caption is a playful nod to the idea of keeping the dish simple and wholesome, even with the use of coconut milk and water. The coconut milk adds flavour, but it’s still very much about highlighting natural, uncomplicated ingredients. Hope you enjoy the recipe! 😎

i think people commenting about you using water with the coconut milk are misunderstanding you on purpose! to avoid any confusion, can change the title to “stop cooking your rice with ONLY water”
@thaikitchenwithrinda18 сағат бұрын
Thanks 🙏 for getting it! That’s a great suggestion. By the way the title just to grab the audience's attention! I’ll discuss with my editor re-update the title to make it clearer.😎

You say stop cooking your rice with water but you added water to the rice with the coconut milk ???????????
@thaikitchenwithrinda10 күн бұрын
Good question! The key difference is that instead of cooking rice only with water, I'm suggesting using coconut milk (which contains water) to enhance the flavour and texture. Coconut milk adds richness and creaminess that plain water alone can't provide. It's about maximizing taste while still using moisture to cook the rice properly!
