I’m curious if Destiny has ever spoken about that study on how the legislative branches of the federal/state governments are provably corporatists? It’s an old study now, maybe like 2005 era. But the summary of that study was that the average bill passed by Congress has next to no effect relating to its popularity amongst the voters. If I recall, any given bill, regardless if the majority of Americans loved or hated the contents, was about 30% likely to pass. So the opinions of Americans didn’t seem to change whether or not a bill was put forth or passed. If Americans really approved or disapproved, didn’t change the bills passed. *However; once adjusted for the will of the wealthy and corporate elites, congress was passing like 90% of the shit they wanted, and NOT passing 90% of the shit they opposed.* I believe this was a Harvard study, I’d link it but I’m a lazy bitch so if that piques your interest, go look it up yourself.

Well yeah, a special interest has way to more to gain/lose from a certain policy than one individual voter. If a policy causes me to lose 1 dollar a year, but causes a single corporation to gain 10 million dollars a year, obviously the corporation is going to have a much stronger motivation to connect with policymakers and influence that policy.

Regarding the question around 53:00, I wonder if Destiny would be ok with corporate taxation if the minimum wage was abolished. I get that redistribution would need to be done to keep people afloat, but with no income floor, I would guess that the government would be making so much less money, so the difference would have to be made up now that companies can potentially pay much less for labour depending. Idk though

I’m pretty sure that if the minimum wage was removed, there would likely not be a big drop in income tax revenue because wages are generally sticky, meaning they very rarely decrease. This could happen longer term if wages did not grow, meaning the real value of those taxes would be slowly decreasing, but this wouldn’t make much of a difference for general income taxes since the bottom 50% of earners pay less than 4% of federal income taxes.

I think Destiny is somewhat wrong on life and philosophy. There are several characteristics in science that all forms of life have, unrelated to philosophy: are made up of cells, maintain homeostasis, respond to stimuli, growth/development/evolution, reproduction; yet he states that these are somehow philosophical questions when in reality they are observable scientific fact. Hard sciences like biology seek to answer the "how" while a soft sciences like philosophy seeks to answer the "why", or what it means to be alive.
