How do you make friends as an adult? Most of us want more friends. But today more than ever, people are struggling with HOW to make friends. Maybe we’ve been staring at screens for way too long, or maybe it’s because we’ve had to be isolated for forever. But loneliness is a real problem, and one thing is for certain - if you don’t do anything to make more friends, you probably won’t be feeling less lonely anytime soon.
One of the hardest situations to try and make friends is moving to a new country. I mean, you’re literally going to a place where you might not know a single person, and you may not even know how to speak the local language.
So how do you make your first friend? And how do you build a sense of community where you are? In this video, I’m going to share 5 tips for how to make friends as an adult.

I found that most people can make new friends but not a lot of people know building a friendship requires efforts! These are great tips

Expectations really are everything. Effortless friendships are great but also some great things take work and it’s usually worth every bit of effort!

You want us to walk up to 5 random strangers at a coffee shop and make them answer 3 questions. Sounds like a good way to get kicked out.

I like what you said about making an effort and sometimes doing the uncomfortable. I remember going out of my way, driving over 30+ miles, feeling nervous and uncomfortable, but wanting to connect with new people. Turns out, that drive led me to a Bible study, where I met a kind and sweet person and it began to grow into a nice friendship and sharing some things in common.

Strangest way I've made a friend was on a plane ride from Germany to Greece. In a 2.5-hour flight, I made a deep spiritual connection was a woman that I'm still in touch with even though we live thousands of miles apart. Nice to see you, Dr. T!

I love curiosity and wish more people embraced this amazing quality! The most random way I made friends as an adult led me to you and my entire network in LA!! A barista at the local coffee shop I frequented asked me if I wanted to play softball on her adult co-ed league the morning after I tried to get a new team in the same league for my work. We became friends and she invited me to a writing class where I met you. Shortly after, you invited me to a ladies happy hour where I met some other amazing women and the rest is history. I didn’t want to go to that happy hour because it was far from where I lived during rush hour Friday LA traffic but I was curious, in need of more friends being new to LA, and I stepped out if my comfort zone. So glad I did ☺️

Ok I feel being called out on the "waiting for a million dollars to fall from the sky." 😂 The chance might be small, but never zero. 😏 Great video as always! So many adults have limiting beliefs regarding finding new friends. I will sent this one to some people for sure.

I am glad you said about being vulnerable. I asked my roomate out and talked on a walk found out that talking about a guy i met on vacation i guess was big error. Anyway I get complete silence now. Well oh well.

I´m wondering how you became a therapist, since you´re missing a lot of key factors. And by not mentioning them, you´re doing a disservice.

Why follow up on a one sided relationship…. If I show that I’m really interested and you don’t want why do I have to keep pursuing you
