I "suffered for 25 years with Scoliosos of my spine constant pain and severe pain in my knee from a knee reconstrustion", then 3 months after taking Tumeric with 'black pepper' I was completely pain free , only a little knee stiffness at times, the use of Tumeric and black pepper is a godsend, pain free after 25 years of misery.

Yeah. I lose weight with the carnivore diet and it leaves you feeling energetic, but, I don't think it and Keto has been around long enough for there to be any studies about its long term effects. We are descended from omnivores, not pure carnivores. I've found that cutting out LARGE PORTIONS of carbs and eating 3 small portions of fresh-based or organic foods 3-4 hours apart, no snacks or fast/processed foods does the trick. Of course, individuals might have a problem with specific foods. I avoid seeds since one develops pockets in their intestines as they get older. I've found broccoli gives me gas while brussel sprouts don't. Your mileage may vary.

I’d been getting crushed by osteoarthritis. I had bumps around my joints on my fingers and toes. Dr. wanted me to take NSAID’s for the pain, and to consider strong anti-inflammatory medication. Second opinion was very similar. I decided to go my own way and went with Turmeric with black pepper extract. It’s the only thing I changed. Within 3 months the bumps shank away, and I am almost pain free. If my gut health takes a small, unnoticeable hit, and I’m almost completely pain and symptom free, I’ll stick with the turmeric. NSAID’s would be far worse for my gut health I think. I do not doubt what Paul is saying here. He has lots of great content. I just have a different experience with this spice.

I agree. I have severe degenerative arthritis in lumbosacral spine with severe foraminal stenosis affecting nerve roots. I have had two back surgeries to open up spinal stenosis but arthritis pain is severe. Before one of my back surgeries was given a NSAID and some months later labs showed decreased kidney function and stopped the NSAID. took a year but kidneys recovered. I started the turmeric with pepper supplement when had to stop the NSAID and seem to tolerate it and helps some with pain and stiffness but still with daily moderate pain that makes sleeping difficult. We all have a balancing act of positive and negative effects of things we take.

I had (past tense!) severe arthritis pain and multiple inflammatory issue, carpal tunnel syndrome, bursitis, tennis elbow…you name it. My mother was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in her late 60’s. She had accidents constantly, it was impacting her quality of life and doctors wanted to put her on meds for life. She was big advocate of turmeric, preached about its “benefits” incessantly. I asked her what meds and supplements she was taking,”Nothing but turmeric.” I told her to stop using turmeric completely for a week and see what happens. Her symptoms went completely away within two days. She had been living with a highly irritated bowel for two years from turmeric.

First of all i hope your mother is fine and living a good life while suffering from ulcerative colitis. My opinion (because i suffer from this disease) is that she should take her medication as i am doing, and, in the meantime if she finds that turmeric its not for her then she should stop it. Turmeric doesn’t do miracles. Always take your medication and if you see that turmeric helps then take it. Otherwise not.

Curcumin (Turmeric) is heavily used in India, Pakistan, etc., without negative effects. Hot spices are used in Hispanic countries and they have almost negative cases of gastro issues. Seems almost everything is reduced to individual tolerances. Black pepper? MDs were encouraging people to freely use it as it "aids digestion". I think the good doctor has done a huge disservice in publishing this video.

Our recent ancestors understood that apples, cucumbers, and potatoes were to be peeled; they also knew not to eat the seeds of cucumbers and tomatoes. The "experts" ruined our health when they told us to eat the whole plant and whole grains; and they told us not to cook our food to death. That, combined with convenience foods that eliminated fermentation (i.e. buttermilk pancakes, sourdough bread, and pickles) wrecked us. My grandfather ate pickled herring and he loved to eat the joints on chicken bones; the other GF loved head cheese. Frankly, having women work outside the home, rather than being home to prepare nourishing meals for their families is a problem in our society. YES, women should work at home as nurturers and men should be providers. Gender roles are necessary for a society of physically and mentally healthy people. There is nothing wrong role reversals or other exceptions - point being that every home needs a homemaker.

@@Starfish2145you missed the point. There is a book and a mini series called Cooked by Michael Pollan. He says in the mini series that a home requires a person who is solely devoted to food preparation; growing, shopping, foraging, cooking, fermenting etc because it is so valuable to the health of the family and so time consuming. Since a household requires other chores, this theory would likely support another thing abandoned by most American households: multigenerational homes. Not only is good food and water the foundation for health, it is part of the glue that holds culture together along with family connectedness, things sorely absent from our declining society.

"Just meat and fruit... except this meat, and this meat, and this fruit, etc etc." If youre going to support not eating something recommend something to replace it. This stuff is hard enough as it is when you dont have constant medical input on what your blood/gut are doing. This is what i think needs to happen. You do a tier list of spices. S tier, eat this all the time: salt. etc etc, then when you get to undesirable ones you say, ok Black Pepper: F tier, this is why, HERE IS SOME ALTERNATIVES. Have you looked into GAPs diet? It can heal your gut issues so you can tolerate a lot more foods. The reason carnivore works so well for a lot of us is it’s basically an extreme elimination diet. So many of us in the modern world have a compromised gut and are unwittingly eating foods that irritate our gut and cause health issues. Meat milk and eggs have something in common, in that they are easily digestible and gentle on the gut. Highly bioavailable. You wouldn’t think it but bread, vegetables, and processed food are extremely hard and damaging to the gut.

Curcumin, the therapeutic ingredient in turmeric, is what most people use for chronic conditions including cancer, it seems like all the so-called experts forget to talk about curcumin, they have everybody confused about turmeric, but the thing they want to be using is curcumin, and in some cases high doses, and yes you need a reputable company to have it where it is absorbable, if you're going to use it you need it to absorb, a lot of herbs are toxic but are beneficial and their own way, wish the doctors and also the so-called nutritional nutritional experts would just make this clear

Although you'll probably never see it on a label, common non-organic grocery-store pepper likely contains ethoxyquin, ostensibly as an anti-oxidant, but not meant for human consumption; it's also used in crap pet food (again un-labeled). Additionally, many common spices are 'sterilized' using ethylene gas; Sterigenics in Vernon CA treats massive quantities of spice, effectively neutering whatever beneficial qualities may exist in a raw state.

I suggest reading a page called "Cerebral Fructose Metabolism as a Potential Mechanism Driving Alzheimer’s Disease", it's very informative. In addition to causing numerous diseases, fructose actually makes you hungrier than before you ate it. It makes animals forage for food because the body thinks it's in a starvation situation, which is why it also reduces your energy level. It makes you both hungry and groggy.

@@mballer what does MMS stand for? And there is no such obvious thing as “bad” or “good” when it comes to microbiomes. It’s about stable and balanced ones in the appropriate place. When it comes to SIBO specifically, there is a “bad” player when it’s in the small intestine, although it is normal part of your large intestinal flora. It’s Escherichia coli K12, and Klebsiella pneumoniae and Klebsiella aerogenes. Taking rifaximin (a non-absorbed antibiotic) is very specific in killing these guys and letting to microbiome normalize. This is just an example though. There are indeed antimicrobial herbs which are far less potent, but more broad-spectrum (can also work as antifungals or antiparasitic). But motility, more specifically the migrating motor complex motility, which is different from regular motility, is key in this condition.

Turmeric when used in cooking reduces it's high oxalates and that is where it's inherent benefits manifest. But in supplement form it should always go through a fermentation process, which manufacturers rarely do

A seed? I was under the impression they were considered a fruit or berry. I live in Southern California and we have peppercorn trees all over the joint. The peppercorns turn reddish pink from green and you can squash them in your fingers or eat them. They are then dried, which may give them a seed like appearance. I don't remember pulling them out of a fruit, they are the fruit. Am I missing something here? Google: Black pepper, ubiquitous in table shakers and takeout packets, actually comes from peppercorn, the dried berry of a flowering vine native to Southeast Asia.

Hey Paul, ive been thinking about this aspect of food and nutrition for sometime. Theyve used and said for many years that alot of roots, herbs and essential oils can be very healing within the healing properties of all the plants. As tumeric is one of the "herbs" or roots i was in question of, are there any herb or plant that would get a Carnivore MD stamp of approval for conditional use of "healing"?

This is a strange video. There are good studies on pepperine toxicity and clearly, the amount used in turmeric supplement is very small (typically around 5mg) compared to the amount that can cause trouble (35mg/Kg of body weight - so around 1500mg for a 50 Kg individual). Just Google the subject and you will find good studies about this subject. I did not find any study showing that 5mg of pepperine could cause any problem and you certainly don't need to scrape pepper off your t-bones. Maybe this guy has a particular sensitivity to pepper.
