Rider's Share is a great idea, especially as the potential buyer. I "thought" I wanted a HD Road King Special, so I rented one from a guy for the weekend. The guy renting it out to me was indeed trying to sell it, but it wasn't for me. Instead, I went for an Indian Springfield Dark Horse. Luckily it just cost me a weekend of rentals to find out versus the $20K.

Good advice there Spite for selling a bike. Pricewise , I think a lot of people who have done their homework on the bikes value tend to ask 5 - 10% over the going price ( which would probably be lower than a dealership price ) in the hope they will get nearer what they would like for it. If you can buy the bike you want for less than a dealers price then you feel you got a fair deal.

​@spitescorner my first bike 93 cb750 knighthawk i bought for $900 needing a carb rebuild, fixed it up and road it for 5 years, apartment manager backed into it and knocked it over and totaled it to pay me out $2200 after buying it back, fixed it for $100, it got stolen... ie walked a block and i recovered it just after filing a report, ended up selling it for $2700 after buying my cb1100

A buyer may toss in a below asking price on the off-chance you'll take it. Don't. If you give them things that are wrong\ need doing, then they have legit reason for lower price, otherwise stick close to your guns, maybe haggle "for cash". Do not hold the bike back without a deposit.

Maybe. I have noticed expensive bikes that are "garage queens" are quite easy to get at way below asking price (which is often already quite low); these riders already have a garage full of motorcycles that they need to make space for. Forget the riders who "know my bike's worth" because they aren't serious about actually selling their bikes. I also avoid riders who modify their bikes. Chances are they add the mods' prices to their bike, and then it also becomes way too much trouble to deal with them. So many times I'll see a rider trying to sell a modified motorcycle for more than what it was new. The converse is also true; the last couple of times that I've sold a motorcycle I've made sure to sell it stock at under what others are selling similar bikes. These bikes are sold within days. My last bike was gone within 4 hours of posting. Could I have asked for more? Yeah, but I do sell for about what I paid for.

C'mon Spite, you haven't done cross continental trips with KLR yet! You need to take her from Texas-to-Alaska via California, Go across Canada, then bring her all the way down to Patagonia. Then you are allowed to sell her :D
