Most people I know who have a weird name use their middle name which is usually a generic name like John or Mark. I have a unique name, in fact baby name websites say my name was only popular in 1904 when 5 people were given my name. The only other spike is in the 80's with 1 person named. Pretty sure thats me. Anyways I lucked out because two of the ways you can insult my name can, actually be taken as a compliment if you aren't careful on the context.

I looked this up on a few websites that give you meanings for names. when you search for the meaning of Abcde, all of the websites say : The First Five Letters of the English Alphabet. I mean i would get it if there was a meaning to it in another language, or something like that, but when everything says that all it means is the first 5 letters of the alphabet, its time to consider a different name.

There was a 20/20 story a few years ago warning parents that naming their kids... STUPID NAMES will haunt them and even cause Employment problems in the Future. They had 10 people with unique names apply for jobs. They sent in 2 exact Resumes. One used their real Unique Names and one with everyday Joe/Jane names.. They got no call backs on their real names and all got call backs on the Joe/Jane names.

As a black man it’s crazy that I’m judged off of my name because it’s not a Chris or a John. I can name countless times I’ve tried to read somebody Americans name but then their families last name is crazy hard to say. Do I make fun of it? Last time I checked the first 5 letters of the English alphabet is not a name that is part of any culture or worldview nor does it have any meaning. For a name that has no cultural indication, its very clear that the mother chose this name for her kid to stand out, for attention, clearly any person with a brain know that its a spelling that will only result in problems for the kid. For a name that is pronounced like Ab-si-dee, she could have written it as Absidy, yet the mother chose this. When this kid grows up and has to apply for jobs how seriously do you think they are gonna take her for a name like this? Its not just US. You go to any country outside US where people know the English alphabets, this name is gonna be mocked. I have lived in Asia for a long time, and oh boy a name like this will be laughed at. Okay, so names are introduced, reintroduced, and taken out usage all the time. Folks are naming their kid Daenarys from Game of Thrones. But at some point folks need to think how they kids names will affect them in the future.
