This helps a lot. Even during quarantine my daughter still has to perform over zoom/Google meets. She's a full time musician. She hasn't had a lot of motivation to practice and has been struggling a bit. Her vocal coach hasn't said a word to us and your videos have motivated her and helped her so much. Thank you!!

Great video! I was recently wondering how far "off" a note can be until it sounds sharp/flat. Like how many "cents" from the target pitch can one vary? Because it's pretty impossible to hit the exact pitch, e.g. 440 Hz for an A4...

do you have any tips for when singing and playing an instrument at the same time? i think i sound better when i’m not playing the piano (either someone else is or it’s a cappella), but if i’m performing a sing that i wrote, then i want to accompany myself. coach cat sounded great btw! your videos are really helping me!

I noticed that when i play guitar i struggle more to get my breathing and my voice right. I think, at least to me, its because im focused on playing the instrument right and not mess up chords and rythm and everything. So i cant focus on my voice at the same time.

+tarassimonstudio *Thanks for a briefing on how overpitch occurs.* I've a modest history of misses in both flat and sharp directions. The tendency to go flat can be picked up on the Measure 5 octave jump in: *HAPPY BIRTHDAY / TRADITIONAL* (Patty Smith Hill/Mildred J. Hill) Warner Chappell Music/Clayton F. Sammy, ASCAP while other Songs can reveal a tendency to go sharp.

When I was in college in the late 80s, my teacher told me during my final I was singing sharp. I had no clue what that meant or how to fix it, and it has haunted me for decades. In a few minutes you not only told me what that means, but also how to fix it. So, when I am nervous I tend to sing sharp. When I am confident I sing on pitch. Thank you thank you TARA!!!! for sharing with me what it is, and how to fix it.

I have found your video educational. I can not sing a note, I am a concert pianist and a accompany pianist. Accompanying a singer I need to make sure they sound awesome, and when they are sharp or flat I need to adjust keys on the fly. I am going to start asking them to check out your video for insight. I know it will make my job easier. :D I did notice you were sharp some of the time. You were having a hard time singing sharp. Your skill was wanting to push you down to the key being played and not singing sharp. Good Job. :D

Hi Tara! I hope you'll see this. Been watching your youtube videos for quite a while now. But I just recently subscribed when I saw your reaction video on Oceans by Hillsong, felt your spirit there. By the way I'm a beginner in singing and I am self taught, haven't got any formal training. I just have this one concern. The more I push(use) my abdomen the more I feel tightness in my throat but it doesn't affect my voice and in fact it's more clearer in recording. Is the tightness I feel healthy? Thank you in advance
