Season 8 was just particularly trash-tier only seasons 1-6 have that addictive "omg this show's cliffhangers are sooo good" property. by the end of S6, all the characters that you root for, save for arya stark, are either killed or corrupted beyond the point of being likable

Robert Baratheon wasn't as stupid as most people make him out to be. He united Westeros and put an end to the mad king's reign, and kept it together afterwards. He stopped the Greyjoy rebellion and ended it with as little bloodshed as possible. Yes, he didn't attend small council meetings, but that's because he had no idea how to rule and he knew it. So he left that part to more competent people. And you'll note that Westeros went to shit the second he wasn't there anymore. He wasn't a great king, but he was a good king. But Westeros needed a great king at that time.
