Your lawn is inspiring. I am looking forward to improving my soil and “crop” of turf over the next couple of seasons. My cool season grass is not happy w this stretch of 100+ degree days. But I’m on my way to improvement thanks to you. 🥵 Ok to apply fert early in am and water it in in this heat? I am keeping it to about 1/3# N/1000sq ft. Thanks!

Awesome, thank you John! Here in Tampa, FL, my 4 ,500 ft2 of Empire Zoysia struggled for a decade until I discovered you and Allan. Ultimately, adequate N & K (and perfect watering) were the issues. After running the Bio-Stimulant pack (3 oz/K rotated monthly) and 18-0-1 GreenePunch at the label rate religiously for 12 months , I saw some improvement in the turf but not much. Then in January, I got 5 of Allan's soil tests and discovered that I was way low on N & K everywhere. Staring in February, I went after those deficiencies by gradually ramping up through .50 lbs N/1,000 monthly in the spring and now 1.0 lbs N/1,000 monthly in the summer (following Allan's warm season turf bell curve) and OMG, my turf has transformed. You guys wouldn't believe the before & after pics I've got. To the point of your video (Florida's constantly flushed sandy soils) I went heavy on the K too. As I did with the N, I ramped up the monthly rate of the K in the same way, gradually through spring into summer. Rates have averaged about .45 lbs K/1,000 in spring, and now that we're into summer, .90 lbs K/1,000 (every 4 weeks). Again, OMG what a transformation in the turf. I got to the above numbers and performance by running heavy 8-0-10 Sunniland granular monthly, combined with 26-0-0 GreeneCharge at label rates monthly, and the Biostimulant-Pack religiously at monthly label rates. This combination and schedule has set my Zoysia on fire everywhere and I'm loving it!! The color would blow your mind too. An amazing cocktail for that on Zoysia turns out is 4 oz/K GreeneCharge, 3 oz/K MicroGreene, and 3 oz/K Southern Agriculture Liquid iron. Also to the point of your video, even and regular irrigation has been a huge factor too. Mine needs 3/4 inch every 3 days in the long hot days of summer, and in the spring & coming out of winter, it was very happy at 3/4 inch every 4 days. Finally, I'm on a spoon-feeding regimen with all the above-mentioned liquid apps. I simply take the monthly label rate and divide it up 4 times per month, weekly. Backpack sprayer, at sundown, always the evening before an AM irrigation cycle. Just had to share all of this success John. Please share with Allan too... he's only about an hour from me :-) Hopefully this all helps someone else struggling with Empire Zoysia. Steve

No reason to apply if there’s no reason to apply. I don’t apply any K beyond what’s in the basics unless it’s to the golf green. There is a consistent need down there for surw

Good point on the battle. What I’ve learned is that Mother Nature ALWAYS wins; you will ALWAYS lose. There’s no “buts or exceptions”. You lose, she wins. Now, respect her power, provide your crops with what they need and be patient and persistent. Eventually, Mother Nature will give you what you want.

Good overview. Over here in parts of Long Island NY, we have sandy/loam soil that is low in K and generally sufficient in P. With the high heat and humidity, summers are interesting for the cool season yards.

The house that I'm in now is more likely low in everything. Previous owners used a service that my guess pounded the lawn with nitrogen. No soil test here, just looking at the lawn. Nailed the front with a pound of N and a pound of P at the beginning of summer and it only helped some.

Two points and howdy boss JP. I'm so lucky liven down on the flats from you, If I see a problem starting you seem to always post a vid on that subject. As always common since isn't bought in a bag. However, GCF liquid is the way to go. 7-0-0 is my favorite. PS Thanks for keeping me out of trouble.

I really dont fertilize in the summer months. I add supplements and try to kill weeds . I try to do it early so that I have the time to reseed if needs be. This fall I will be adding Kentucky Bluegrass to sections of my lawn. I am gently preparing my lawn. The seeding will be done in early Sept just like last yr.

Interesting, I’ve always been under the impression that we need a higher potassium in the heat of summer? I put two bags of 7-04-14 back in June as it tends to get extremely hot and humid in the months of June/July/August. I have timber soil ( red clay) but I do also use 7-0-0 and 0-0-2 during the months of July and August to help things along. I’ve been programmed to think this way and maybe I don’t need to do what I’ve done going forward?! Good video as always!! Makes a person think a little more about these things!

If K is a limiting factor, for sure out it out. If it’s something that you are doing in order to hit maximum fertilizer levels for your turf without knowing what’s underneath, the also do it. If you see your grass wilt because of the app… then you should probably stop.

If greenekick is supposed to be foliarly absorbed, is there a significant decline in uptake if you use an ortho or YM hose end sprayer? Is it something you'd ever run through your EZ-FLO? The EZ-FLO looks like a worthwhile investment for me, but not sure what products are available to support a K deficiency (I have low P and K)

Truly the best method IMO. I was doing it before it had a name. Micah woods has his shit together and takes such a common sense approach to turf. That being said, I think you can even get away with less than their minimum requirements since that’s based on high performance playable turf.
