thank you for explaining black before dormancy because I had mine turn black this year and I was like must be about to turn brown for dormancy, but i didn know for sure. it definitely turned brown but I was thinking that it was because of some trinec weed killer i put down. i'm going to do a soil test just to make sure i know what is going on but i am pretty sure now that it is just dormant. i do not have irrigation so it makes sense. i almost made it through the whole summer with a green lawn and no irrigation. hopefully next year i can get it all year without irrigation. this was my first year repairing my lawn and all i did was use weed-b-gon with the acid you recommended. literally knocked out about 70% of everything. and I used the sustane 18-1-8 you suggested. i also did a fall blitz but in the spring. my grass was premium and my neighbors were jelly af dude. but i got a huge clover infest throughout about 40% of my lawn and so i bought the only thing by me which was the trinec. i am pretty sure if i didn't put that down my grass wouldn't have went dormant, but i'll never know. either way, i appreciate you and your hard work on lawnlife. I am in Badger, MN, so its cool you are in MN too. good news is the clover is all gone, but now i need to repair the grass. i will be waiting for the future forecasts to not say high 70's and i will begin the fall blitz but i am going to do the earthworks 8-2-2 while its still warm out. i think that'll do it. ofc i will put out the sprinkler for the applications but other than that i only rely on natural irrigation and time my nitrogen blitz right before rainfall. it works and works well. thank you again and i hope you get to read this, i know its a lot.

Looking great, Jessie. I'm intrigued by the Sea 3 product. I probably use a similar mix since I purchase a lot of organic items and enjoy making my own cocktails. I grabbed a 2.5 gallon jug this spring for controlling earth worms and was applying 2 gallons / 5oz as per label every 2 weeks (watered in after) and switched to hose end for convenience (soil amendment app?) Didn't consider foliar application. Do you think the results would differ?

Honestly, now that you mentioned this I feel like I had some clogging issues. It wasn't anything major but it was leaking from the handle a little bit and I've never experienced that with my Petra before. I also had more left over with my walking speed. I used a 1 gallon carrier. As for the Rev 26. I never considered it. I didn't want another reel mower because I'd be dealing with the same issues as my current one. Hey Jesse I can’t recall if you’ve had the PRG/KBG mix long enough to know, but if so, how well would you say it does with the Minnesota climate? Would like to know your opinion on how it holds up in our weather? I’ve been a KBG loyalist for the longest time…however, decided to overseed the backyard with the Blackout KGB/PRG mix in the Spring and can confirm that it is sooo dark. It is such a noticeable difference in color from the preexisting grass. I plan to overseed in the Fall too, in hopes that it will take over the rest of the back. Now I’m tempted to overseed the front lawn with Fireball and Hattrick but just wondering what I should be prepared for. Does PRG tend to have a slower or quicker green-up in the Spring ? How well does it do with factors such as heat stress, fungus or cooler temperatures? Been loving the vlogs. Appreciate all the great content. And thanks for any advice you can throw my way.
@lawnlifevlogs
@lawnlifevlogs Ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment. I haven't had any issues with my KBG/prg mix at all. I think if you overseeded the front it should behave pretty similarly to how backyard is performing except it should be darker. If I was you, I would overseed at a high rate to compete with the existing kbg. I did 10 lbs per K and I am extremely happy with how it turned out. I think the KBG is starting to compete with it though so I'm going to overseed at the same rate with it this year as well.

Thank you! The trees in my side lawn drive me absolutely crazy. I hate them to be honest. I like the tree in the main yard. How does the earth works compare to the sustane you used in years past?
@lawnlifevlogs
@lawnlifevlogs Ай бұрын
It's very similar. Doesn't have the iron that Sustane has but I still think the green up is just as good. My lawn is absolutely popping today in the sun. I kind of wish I would've waited until today to show what it looks like at noon. It's like emerald green right now. I did the after shots last night in this video.

Is there any concern about using the 8-2-2 in severe heat? My lawn is hungry, but it's hot AF here in Maine. Also, can't wait to try some of that blackout Kentucky bluegrass!
@lawnlifevlogs
@lawnlifevlogs Ай бұрын
I don't have any. It's a slow release fert and the N rates aren't very high as is. It's salt index is very low on top of it. You would be good putting it down in very high heat, but it will require a little bit more water because of the N.
@pillcosby3949

You should be good if it’s organic matter and you follow the label instructions.. however if it’s severe heat, I’d probably just wait for that heat wave to pass for best results

Yeah I would stick with fescue if I was you. You're flirting with too much maintenance for KBG in that heat. As tempting as it sounds. I'm in Minnesota.

How many hours of shade does your rye grass get? And how many of sun?

@@lawnlifevlogs I debating on renovating with your blackout rye or heavy overseeding/ heavy detaching with SnapBack TTTF which is very dark as well and goes down to 3/4 of an inch. I have both on hand. I just purchased a Webb Weh12r manual reel ☺️. Trying to get into reel mowing. Small front lawn 1300 sqft. Same thing with the sun. Half the yard gets 8 hours and the other maybe 5-6. Decisions, decisions 😩.

I'm telling you right now if you go with blackout for a full renovation you will not be disappointed. I'm thinking about glyphoing my entire side lawn and putting down 100% blackout. It's that good man. I obviously have a bias, but now that I've seen it in person...it's definitely what I would do.
