Thanks brother great advice. I always shied away from braid for no good reason I guess. Trilene XT in green was always my go to, but what you said makes sense as far as feeling the bite. I'm going to give it a shot this year, see how I like it. Thanks again Patrick and good luck!

If I didn’t waste money on walleye jigs, I’d have to find something else to waste it on.

If im using rubber like twister tails i put a little super glue on the hook first before i go fishing then I'm ready for when I go out fishing. I buy like one pack of twister tails every few years mostly because the hook gets snagged on something and i lose it. There is always a tube of super glue in my tackle box.

How do you work the jig head in the water do you just retrieve it like a lure or do you do any pauses?
@absoluteunitmedia11 ай бұрын
Sometimes Straight retrieve , other times in current I’ll cast 45 degrees up stream and let the current “swing” it back downstream. Sort of like fly fishing. Some light jigging as it drifts to keep it just off bottom

I tie an improved clinch with fluoro up to 40lb test for musky. Great knot. Doesn’t really work with Cajun line very well. I use Palomar for all braid to tackle connections. Fast and doesn’t slip. Will be trying the double palomar in the future. I use the Alberto for all braid to leader connections not involving a swivel. It’s strong, slim, and easy to tie in adverse conditions, and I don’t need to intensely inspect the not so it’s low light friendly. Braid to fluoro is imo the way to go. I do a 20 foot top shot of 8lb fluoro on all of my walleye reels now. When walleye are picky, they let you know how well they can see in 20 feet of current with 2 foot visibility. But I deal with more drag on my line, and less sensitivity. It’s a compromise you have to decide for yourself. Many still just go straight 6 lb mono and it catches fish. 6 lb braid will work just fine direct tied in stained moving water 90% of the time if your bait and presentation are what they want. If I had one walleye rod and a tight budget, it would be spooled with 10 lb power pro to a 40# vmc swivel to a 3’ 8# Berkley vanish leader. You can do everything from that as a starting point.

I used to lose a lot of fish using braided line until one day a guy at a bait shop told me to use the Palomar knot and haven't had a hook come loose in the last twenty years

Your the reason I catch fish in our rivers… With that being said, when the bite is slow due to cold weather, switch to targeting cold weather fish like trout. When winter comes and the bite slows, you can count on trout to provide because they’re cold water fish…
@absoluteunitmedia11 ай бұрын
Been thinking about that. Might have to try some trout soon
@toddrobinson885211 ай бұрын
Be sure and check the regulations because most trout streams close down to fishing this time of year until opening day. There are still a handful open in every region of the state, but not ALL trout streams are open to year round fishing.
