The GameCube version of SpongeBob SquarePants: Revenge of the Flying Dutchman was originally also going to have a link cable feature that would work both with and without the GBA game of the same name. If you had the GBA game inserted when the link cable was connected to the GameCube, then you would have been able to play a 3D version of the special jellyfishing mini-game that ended up only making it to the handheld counterpart on your TV. If you had the link cable fully connected, but didn't have a copy of the handheld game inserted in the GBA, then you could have used your Game Boy Advance as a radar for when you went treasure hunting. Unfortunately, though, due to the very rough production cycle that the console version of ROTFD (which was also being developed for the Playstation 2) went through, the link cable feature was scrapped, though voice clips on how the functionality would have worked are still hiding in the GameCube version's disc files.

The Tingle Tuner in wind waker actually means a lot to me. When me and my little brother were younger he struggled with playing the Wind Waker because he found it to hard to play. In Europe it released quite late in the GameCube's lifecycle. IIRC they originally didn't think the sales would justify the cost of translating it to multiple European languages, by that time a lot of retailers had stopped stocking GameCube stuff so it wouldn't have been that widely available. Buying late GameCube games was HARD, I remember having a really tough time trying to get hold of a copy of Resident Evil 4 at release. Kinda funny now considering that game's on more platforms than Skyrim.

One of the main reasons for Wario's Woods not being available was its size, obviously as you said, but not necessarily only that. Wario's Woods was the most intensive use of the MMC3 ASIC memory mapper, and I can safely bet that chip was what made WW so hard to work with. The game is already 256k, and beside that you need to accurately emulate an MMU for an emulator, in 2001, on a GBA.

Using the link cable with my GameBoy Player is actually how I used the Tingle Tuner in WindWaker while playing it on my Wii. I then connected the GameCube up to a portable DVD Player's video input (which was plugged in) since it was the easiest way I had to get 2 screens so I could actually see the GameCube output. I however do not have friends to play with so I would just use it as a nice mini map and to buy health when I started to get low in some areas.

WarioWorld has 8... worlds and if you collect all the otherwise unnecessary 8 treasures in each world you unlock that world's respective minigame bundle. I'm not sure if this was done just to content to an otherwise very short (but very enjoyable nonetheless) title or simply to advertise, but I'm really glad it was since unlocking the content is the more enjoyable and rewarding aspect imo.

I have very fond memories of manning the Tingle Tuner while my big brother played Wind Waker. Awesome video, I always loved the link cable. I feel like not enough people talked about Four Swords Adventures, and I definitely got my use out of the GBA chao garden. Also I am so fucked up right now. My original GBA SP's screen broke, but you could hear from the sound that the game still ran and all the inputs worked, but since it was "broken" my brother threw it across the street and into a concrete wall, causing it to REALLY break. If I had known I could use the GBA Player I could've still used it!!!!!!

I don't think of myself as a great collector or anything, but I've got the gamecube, GBA player, GBA, GCN-GBA cable, PSO2+, pacman vs and a lot of other awesome things for the system and man it is really fun, the only problem is that you need more people to have all the fun and when you are already an adult it gets hard to call friends and get together to play :C

When I would hang out with my best friend in middle school, we'd play four swords and other gba connected games using 1 gamecube connected to the "big" ~24inch crt with a regular gba and my gamecube/gba player setup with the little flip top attachable screen. Legitimately played Crystal Chronicles, 4 swords, Wind Waker Tingle Tuner, and even E-Reader games like this. We played hundreds of hours of Melee on that small fliptop attachable display, always on Hyrule Temple of course.

Here's another nifty thing: The GBA Player on the GameCube can have the GBA Link Cable connected to it to function as a GBA for all of these games. I once had two TVs with two GameCubes set up and had the Tingle Tuner displaying on one TV with Wind Waker being played on the other

DUUUDE, I'm a car guy since childhood, Dakar 2 was originally too hard for me since it had crashes and car damage. I persevered, and it only cemented my love of machines. I remember we had a road trip, and I downloaded the Dakar game and played it the entire time. It was one of the few peripherals I kept when my young stupid self sold the GameCube and the GameBoy Player. I got another pair just last year. I always used the GBA/SP to control my games on the big screen!

Man I spent a lot of time in the chao garden. A really deep complex side game that most people overlooked

You need to see Robocop 3 on the Ataris ST/Amiga/PC. This game looks insane for the time.

"There are worse ways to spend your time" is true of literally any action but two. What those two are, I don't know.

You know the Dreamcast was still very popular during the GameCube's lifespan right? The DC had it's own screens on the controllers as well, and they were pack-in. You could download mini games onto the VMUs!
