Store Owner Lowers Gate on Smash-and-Grab Thieves: Cops

Police say they’ve apprehended a man who was sought after in a string of robberies, including this smash-and-grab incident in the Bronx. The NYPD says in this incident, he smashed the front window of a jewelry store, then reached in and started grabbing the merchandise on display. Meanwhile another man held a bag that the first man kept stuffing with his loot. The store was open at the time and someone inside tried to lower the mechanical gate. Watching these Videos as a European, I noticed that 9 out of 10 Robbers seems to be black. I just don't understand how on earth is this is considered racist? I manage a store, we got hit “$4,000” I followed the thieves without them noticing, grabbed the license plate, with that I recognized the actual register owner which was one of the thieves and the detective in charge couldn’t arrest the guy. A few years back I did some traveling and I remember driving through a city in what I recognized as a "bad neighborhood". I could tell this because it was all pawn shops and liquor stores. Where I come from businesses in these kinds of places all have barred windows, but there were no bars in this neighborhood. I wondered what they did when they closed up. Then I noticed they all had these kinds of garage door like gates. I believe in this particular instance maybe the bars would have worked better, provided the merchandise was far enough from the window that the perps couldn't reach it. I'm pretty sure businesses have insurance for these kinds of things anyway these days. When I worked the "late" shift at a gas station I was told as much. "Just give them the money, and then call the cops when they leave, We have insurance for this. Don't be a hero, etc....."
