What has become one of my favorite moments from this arc is where Linkara rejected Holokara's desire. It has become a perfect argument against toxic, entitled "fans" in modern media, some of whom make threats on the same line of what Holokara was willing to do if they did not undo One More Day. It is sad that many communities and fandoms are filled with the same type of bullies that Holokara was, who are willing to lash out and attack if the creators don't conform to their imposed stories.
@daelen.cclark Жыл бұрын
Especially when it’s about something you care about. Sometimes it’s easy to dismiss those fans by saying “Just stop caring about these stories”, but it’s not that simple when it’s about something that helps make you who you are. Because it matters to us, and it’s important to make sure the entitled don’t ruin it for everyone else.

I love this story arc for more than a few reasons 1: It defined the magical laws of our universe by tying to a sense of unbreakable moral justice (Only used to help, not attack whether passively or intentionally) save for rare cases like with Demonic forces or Malachite 2: The dichonomy between Holokara and Linkara once he returns from his journey, especially the spiel about how Creative forces can abuse their creations while in turn covering the extremes in which a fanbase is sometimes willing to go to in order to change things to fit their vision. Maybe not to the extent of what Holokara had in mind but still something wherein people go a little too far in many regards over characters and stories they love. And lastly with 3:... Harvey Finevoice's character arc. Never would I have ever thought that I'd see so much depth in a Lounge Singer who flies a spaceship but dude, just seeing him so torn up about his son's death to the point where he looked at Linkara the same way he looked at Charlie just broke my heart (That and Lewis's acting REALLY sold the scene where he confronts Charlie's grave) Hell I'm still waiting for the day where we can get some similar origin stories for characters like 90s Dude, Linksano and most importantly Linkara himself.

@myriadmediamusings7 жыл бұрын
Oh heck yes. This, out of all the AT4W arcs, is my favorite one. It's a great example on Lewis's part to take real-life inconveniences and turn the into story assets, really begin to give us layers of the other characters (ESPECIALLY Harvey), and really defined Linkara's universe and its rules when it comes to the likes of magic. While other story arcs like The King of Worms and The Sleepwalker would take the storytelling to a new level, I feel that none of those would be possible if not for Gun & Sorcery.
@AT4W7 жыл бұрын
I realized that after taking on an actual God and winning, there was no way I could top the threat level presented, so it was necessary to turn things inward and do character development instead of trying to raise the stakes. It paid off. =)

My favorite is A Piece Of the World is Missing. The Entity is a great example of a Lovecraftian monster (albeit not much of a horror, but that's kind of a plus in my book; not a fan of horror) and the way Linkara beats it is clever and ties into the comics he was reviewing at the time. The entity's power is so incredible that not only do you better understand Vyce's motives in hindsight, but you genuinely fear for Linkara. By far the best bit is the moment Nimue hypothesizes that the Entity is just toying with him. It's a massive gut punch.
@samuelbarber61774 жыл бұрын
What I really like about the Entity is how we don't see it. Of course Linkara likely can't present a Cthulhu like giant evil monster, but I think that works to the story's advantage. The human mind is incredibly capable of scaring itself and the imagination can be far more terrifying than any big ugly monster. It's voice and eyes are enough.
@brianriff85506 жыл бұрын
This story, I think, is really when the story turns around from "I'm a silly comic book dude who uses Power Rangers toys and Pokeballs to save the world while reviewing comics" to a brilliant almost metastory that really gets the viewer to question the norms the show has placed with its low-budget, kinda silly story, and I LOVE it. "A Piece Of The World Is Missing" was a good step toward this direction but ya still had Pyramid Head in a Pokeball; now is when this series really starts to question its own foundations, and it's fantastic. You're a great writer, Lewis. :D

I remember this part well, and had asked "why didn't Jaeris just ASK Linkara for help". And Linkara's statement at the time was...and I'm slightly paraphrasing, I don't remember the EXACT words but the sentiment was "oh yeah, that would go over well! Hi, I'm a reviewer from another dimension trying to overthrow a fascistic government and so I need your magic gun because all my other friends are dead, oh, and my wife is in my watch". And all I could think was, if you're aware of magic guns, other dimensions and magic, why would you NOT be willing to listen to that kind of tale? Why is THAT so far fetched? It'd be like telling Superman "a giant herd of dinosaurs has spontaneously appeared in the middle of the city from a swirling portal"! He wouldn't just laugh it off, because that sort of thing happens all the time in the D.C. universe, so why would Jaeris's story be so hard to swallow? I've never understood this cliche, the idea of "oh it sounds too unbelievable" when the universe the cliche is being used in is ALREADY full of unbelievable things.
@AT4W7 жыл бұрын
He'd be loaning out his time/weapon for an unknown amount of time with no guarantee of it being returned (assuming Jaeris was telling the truth and wasn't just some villain trying to steal the gun with subterfuge) and equally so maybe Margaret wouldn't want to come. In addition, the gun could only be used by Linkara initially, hence the extra need to unlock its full potential. The side effect of having the gun at full power is that anyone can use it.
@ngrey6517 жыл бұрын
Okay then. Thanks for clearing that up. It just seemed like the initial idea of "it'd be too fantastic an idea to believe" was kind of weak in a world that already has stuff like magic guns...
@HalfTangible6 жыл бұрын
Consider it from Jaeris' perspective: This IS incredibly weird. Linkara's got a weird ass life so that he might believe that kind of story, but most of the other gunwielders he met probably would not have. Even if that weren't the case, he already tried to enlist help from people, and he got them all killed for it for nothing but some of their guns. Sure, he could explain that and just have them NOT come with him, but given how attached Linkara and Jaeris are to their guns, they would probably insist on coming personally. Doing that would require that each of them devote resources and time to creating their own watches in their own universes, time that his own universe and his wife may not have. And even then, the watches aren't exactly instant fixes; Jaeris was still poisoned by Linkara's universe for an extended period. Moreover, Jaeris probably planned to win his rebellion back home, then return to their universes with the guns and explain the situation. Also, if he HAD tried to talk to Linkara, he would have no proof of his story except for his logs. And if he presents those, Linkara would probably assume he made those logs for the express purpose of convincing people to hand over their guns for nothing. It's the same reason he initially disbelieved Vyce about the Entity.

There's a simple explanation for why the spell couldn't work on the Yu-Gi-Oh cards that i'm headcanoning for this. all Duel monsters are spirits from a person's soul, their Ka I believe. SO when you tried it out on Utopia it couldn't work because Utopia comes from Astral's memories (one of the characters from ZEXAL) as such, there is no "Astral" in our world for your Utopia card to materialize from. Same thing would probably happen if you tried it on any other card. Linkara, if you ever try this again I strongly suggest creating your own signature Duel Monsters card, something that represents your soul and have an artist draw it to give it shape and form which you can then assign abilities to if you want it to be an Effect monster or a Normal type of monster card then print it on a an actual card itself. Once you do that perform the spell again and it should at least allow the card to appear as Solid Vision from your duel disk, it might help you during the Contest of Champions

I would love to see a YU-GI-OH duel and a Pokémon match in the tournament. He already mentioned his love for Bulbasur and Oshawott, I wonder what other Pokémon he would use.

The convention scenes are time capsules of fandom in the early 2010s. God, I think I saw a Jack Frost in there.

Been a while since I saw this storyline. I'd forgotten that Linkara was asked "What have you done for others lately?" Very eerie for Holokara to have that same revelation...

"I hate you because you caused me to get fired from my job." Even that motivation would work. EDIT: Not that I'm saying Linkara caused Phelous to leave the site. I just pulled that out of my ass.
