Strange Geometry Train, Long Speeding Coal Train, Intermodal Train With DPU & BIG Cincinnati East RR

Norfolk Southern Special Train Known As A Geometry Train. Chasing A Speeding Coal Train To A Railroad Crossing, Big Intermodal Train With DPU, Single Locomotive Pulling Long Train Past Graveyard & Cincinnati Eastern Railroad With A Big Train On The East End.
I actually filmed the CCET train first and then drove about 35 miles to the Piketon, Ohio area to film various trains at different locations. The first train is one of the 2 similar geometry trains that Norfolk Southern uses. They use lasers to inspect the rail for microscopic cracks, rail profile and other defects. I have caught this train in several states. Some railfans call it The Brick.
Then a coal train came by and I chased it to a different area. I had to drive about ten miles in order to get in front of it. It was booking. I used my radar unit to clock the speed at 36mph and forgot to include that video.
After that I went back and got two more trains at the first location along River Road near Piketon. One train was an intermodal train with 2 DPU locomotives in the middle. Then I went to a graveyard just south of Piketon and filmed a train passing it and the wye that leads to an industrial spur. We take a close look at a derail switch for the wye. The derail prevents an unwanted movement onto the mainline that could cause a huge disaster.
The final scene is a good one. I filmed it earlier in the day. This is a Cincinnati Eastern Railroad CCET train heading eastbound. It is on the east end of the line passing through Peebles, Ohio. They went to an area that is not accessible and they were switching around a bunch of storage cars and rock cars. Instead of waiting for them to return westbound I drove the short distance to the Norfolk Southern main line south of Piketon. This is the same track that the CCET line used to tie into. The switch was removed on the east end of the CCET Peavine line a couple years ago.

@@grampus2112 That is the same consist that delivered the coal. Each coal car weighs around 90 tons loaded, The RRs use what is basically a spreadsheet with formulas to determine the build of the consist. The idea is to avoid broken coupling parts and the delays and costs associated with that.

No general Freight except for the Short Line. Still quite the variety with the Intermodal and who can't help but love the Brick that puts on thousands of miles every year. The coal train with its One lone Conrail car was amazingly low on graffiti and as for those cut down TTX cars their graffiti gallery is closed. Truly a glorious pink sunset in the final scenes which signifies a great day Trackside.

You found the perfect place to fish while waiting on the train. Smallmouth, largemouth, and panfish in there and probably channel cats. I'd be doing that or reading because I can't seem to play on my phone more than 5 or 10 minutes before I want to do something productive. Combining screaming DPUs and fishing is about optimum. lol That geometry train has been running for years. Used to be longer when more people were needed to run it. Now a lot more is automated. The middle car is a generator that powers the whole thing and it has some detectors of its own. I believe it's built on an old locomotive frame. It has changed over the years. Now it has fancy GPS antennas and all. That glass rear end is cool. I remember when it had a smaller window and a door.

Superb. Enjoyed this one a lot! QUESTION: Do you know why the CET hauls those flatcars around so much? Out of all the videos I've watched, I think there was only one or two times any of the flatcars have anything on. Seems like a waste of fuel (money) hauling around the extra weight with no financial gain from it. Those are storage cars. They are paid to store them for their owners. They get in the way and need moved to access other cars

First Class video with a bit of everything in it! The Brick making another inspection, coal train, some very long intermodals, plus more footage of the CCET. Am I correct in assuming that the Scioto River is the same one that the CCET line used to cross on that huge 5 span bridge? Pity it's not in use any longer as it would have made a real nice shot with the train crossing. The sunset pictures were a delight too!
