I think Lucas is best as an idea man, let him develop a concept, maybe write a general outline, some lore, deeper meaning and themes, while somebody else does the script and directing. Think that’s where his skills shine best

Lucas obv became famous cause boomers thought Star Wars was so original. If SW was created today as a new film it would be panned by critics. I personally loved the fx in the films back in the day but the actual story and characters are pretty awful.
@corpsebrigadepowerhouse993
@corpsebrigadepowerhouse993 3 жыл бұрын
@@robcav8747 I wouldn’t say they’re awful, not entirely original yes, but that was kinda the point, Lucas was merging science fiction and fantasy, taking classic fantasy story tropes and placing them into a futuristic setting. The first movie is a classic heroes journey with simple to grasp characters and motivations, that’s part of why the films are so timeless and why they’re able to touch people from across all ages. And I feel Lucas was able to branch out even further with the following films, A New Hope was groundbreaking for the time but on its own it is pretty generic, without the supplementary material that came afterwards I’d say you have more of a point but as is, I think they still hold up as a collective
@robcav8747
@robcav8747 3 жыл бұрын
@@corpsebrigadepowerhouse993 I am refer to awful more from a technical standpoint. Things like plot and character development. There certainly is no way they would win even half the awards they won if films were made today. And dont get me wrong; I ENJOY the films and have watched multiple times. As I said I have watched lots of hours on making ofs. I am (still) impressed with FX for creatures etc back in the day.

@TheQuashingoftheTub

It can be hard to pull off well. Get it wrong, you get a borderline abusive relationship. Get it right, and it's the best vitriolic romance imagineable. This gets it pretty right, I really feel for these two and want them happy. I definitely love Enemies to lovers though. It's a really good tool for bridging gaps between percieved moralities, etc. Just can add a lot to a pair's dynamic as WELL as add interesting development to warring sides.

You know, I kinda realize something. Look at how the Bog Kings first love looked like, then how all the denizen of the dark forest looks like, and then think about how he was so desperate to use a love potion on the first girl he loved because he most likely thought he was going to get rejected anyway. This is my theory, but maybe by a denizen of the dark forest, the fairies are viewed as ugly in their eyes? And since the Bog King looks somewhat similar to the fairies, he was seen as the ugliest person in his kingdom, with all marriage candidates his mother brought to him were actually just gold diggers or wanted to become the next queen. It adds a somewhat spin to the whole story and while it is lost on most people unless you think about it deeply(took me a while to reach this theory of mine) it makes this love story more wholesome as they both view each other as ugly from their perspective and only fell in love not for their looks, but for their personality. I might be reading too deeply into this, but if it is true then George might have made a unique kind of love story for children. Though if it is true, then George made it way too complicated for the message to get across to both children and adults

@@BWMagus this may be the most likely. But I also re-watched the movie recently after seeing this review, and Bog king literally calls his first love the most beautiful person he has ever seen. And at the end when the rejection after the love potion was used is revealed, he says he is to ugly to be loved. But then it was reveled that the potion did not work because she was already in love. But as I said, I might be reading too deeply into this and this might not be what the ones who made this movie's intention was(now that I was reminded that it was not George who made it). But if you consider other movies Hollywood has made with overly complicated messages which was lost on the audience there is a few, so movies with lost messages that was never said to exist in the movie is not that unusual

I think it follows more along the lines of seelie and unseelie fae. Since the bog king and his mother are such major distinguished characters, they had to look relatable to a human audience hence human faces. Since the other fairies also have very human faces, they just ended up looking alike

Well, I’ll give the movie one thing, the twist where the MC actually falls in love with the anatagonist was surprising. Sure, movies like Frozen or Megamind did a similar thing, but this one went out of it’s way to depict the Bog King as a standard villainous fantasy villain, and it plays it straight up to that point that you didn’t expect that to happen. It’s refreshing to see for once the tragic damned villain get their happy ending. Could’ve been a unique love story had the rest of the script added more layers to the idea rather than boiling it down to the standard “appearances aren’t everything” message we’ve heard before.

I was just about to say Disney REALLY fucked up this movie a lot. And I actually like this movie lol but before the changes it was going to be so much different. This was the movie that Disney had to take if they wanted to get all the Star Wars stuff and you can tell they were pissed to be force to do so. And as someone else said, my god the marketing they DIDN'T do for it. The trailer they made didn't even come close to what the movie was actually about lol. This movie came out in the middle of January where movies are sent to DIE. It wasn't even suppose to be a musical and it was suppose to be more dark with a bigger Beauty and the Beast feel to it. And the fairies didn't all have short hair. (which is such a weird ass thing the animators were forced to do.) In the end Lucas was kind of like ok fuck it we're gonna do what they tell us to do and we'll do it as best as we can. You want it to be a musical? BIGGEST DAMN MUSICAL EVER! You want certain jokes? I love this movie for how bonkers it is. It's my guilty pleasure to put on and make fun of every now and again. My bf goes NOOOOOO every time I sing Sugar Pie Honey Bunch to annoy him 😭😂.

...thank you, NC, for introducing me to a film that has now become a guilty pleasure. I watched this movie for the first time last night, in Feb 2020, and I love it. Who knew Chenoweth could sing like that?!

@@gwengrasso1887 Same, I love this movies, although I think they could have done it in only 2, they didn't needed 3. Just smashing 2 and 3 together... I remember owning a shortened version of the first movie (it was pirated), and later when we bought all 3 in one package, because it was cheaper that way at the time and watched the first movie again, we realised some of the scenes were a little off because it was not the whole film. (I mean it wasn't much, the overall story was present, it was just minor details.) The DVD has the whole film, and we watched the others too.

Honestly, I really enjoyed Strange Magic. From the very first joke with the map unrolling to show the dark forest I was having fun with it. Sure not everything lands, but the parts I liked were engaging enough that I didn't get hung up on its flaws. It helps that I love cover songs and therefore am predisposed to like Jukebox musicals, and I thought the instrumental parts were nice touches like where they played 'Crazy little thing called love' when chasing the imp or when they have a march version of 'Bad Romance' going as the theme for Roland's troops. I thought the landscapes were beautiful, and I loved how much attention was paid to giving purposeful action to background characters. For me, the things that worked outweighed the things that didn't.

Funny enough, now I want to watch this movie. But with the dad hug thing, I think what they were going for was Marianne shut her off from love that even meant physical expressions of it, so when she begrudgingly accepted the hug then melted into a relaxed state, I think she let a bit of how she originally was out.
@inkheart151

I’m assuming that the opening cut takes place a year later since Marianne was supposed to have her wedding in spring, and then they cut to another spring ball. But yes, that transition could have been done a lot better.
