Y’all can we talk about how awesome a teacher Mr. Clarke is? He spends a whole day teaching, then volunteers to search for will all night. Then he gives the kids all sorts of wisdom and scientific knowledge not just during school.

Imo he kind of wishes they could be friends I mean he was a nerd maybe too soon, he sees himself in them, if he didn't have friends as a child he might (maturely) envy their group of friends, called weirdos by everyone but sticking together playing dnd He is not completely a teacher to them and surely doesn't feel 100% like a teacher to them

He is by nature more open and receptive to new things. He's not forgotten that child-like curiosity which gets restricted as we grow up. These themes here make this episode rather important - the explanation of dimensional variations, those different but similar timelines where strange things have different outcomes based on our choices stemming from our free will are not just the view of scientific speculation. They have been around since always in the way shamanistic understanding works, how we 'intuitively inspect the whole of cosmos through time and space using our inner light'. Basically shamans like Lappish mages, Native American medicine-men, Mexican nature wizards like Carlos Castaneda's guide Don Juan and Cuban spiritual healers a.o. say that we all know this, and can do it.

Funny how US woods always look like X-Files horror places in shows. Here in Scandinavia, we have this age-old love of forests as our home. Japanese city tourists in Lapland etc abhor any wooded areas because 'ghosts live there', too. European immigrants coming to the American continent earlier mostly chose forested places like Minnesota, Illinois, Montana, Timmins, California, Pennsylvania, Delaware etc as they resembled Europe a lot.
@Diegesis

i think we just have spookier woods than y'all lol
@artoniinisto9022
@artoniinisto9022 11 ай бұрын
@@Diegesis Well, ours do have the advantage that we basically have no really dangerous animals that could present a danger to humans. You won't even see wolves or bears that shun people and attacks are almost unheard of. No deaths in the last 100 years. No venomous snakes (except the common viper that gives a small beesting-like bite) or others like that. Weather, distances, snow and getting lost in the woods or injuring yourself (or swimming accidents - my country has 180 000 lakes and lots of shoreline) are a bigger threat. That is why tourists especially like the woods immediately here in Scandinavia. Peace, quiet, clear lakes, fresh air, fishing, berries, lots of activities, skiing, cycling, good trails and signs plus there's always English-speaking help available quickly. Definitely Lapland and reindeer/husky/sleigh rides.

4:00 It's not called that in DnD actually it's called the shadowfell in DnD. That said you probably know vale of shadows from the bible, psalms 23:4 "Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me"
@KthulhuXxx
@KthulhuXxx 11 ай бұрын
The Shadowfell wasn't what it was called until 4th edition. Before that, it was just "the plane of Shadow", sometimes "the demi-plane of Shadow". 4E did some screwy stuff with the planer structure, 5E has kept some of those changes.
@elkins4406
@elkins4406 11 ай бұрын
This season takes place in 1983. Second edition is still quite a few years in the future, and I don't think "The Shadowfell" was a thing until late 3rd or even 4th edition. These kids would have been working from things like Blue Box Basic and the late '70s/early '80s hardcover AD&D manuals, plus stuff they might have read in Dragon Magazine. The "Vale of Shadows" info we glimpse in that three-ring binder was made up for the show -- it wasn't actually a part of D&D back then --- but it definitely has the *look* of some article clipped from Dragon Magazine and then stuffed into the kids' gaming binder. (The binding of those early D&D books was *terrible* -- lots of people kept binders just like that, into which both official gaming materials and whatever weird supplementary material your group had agreed to incorporate into your games got crammed. Just the look of that thing was very much a nostalgia rush for me.) I very much agree that the writers almost certainly took the name from Psalms.
