I’m the Daniel who wrote in this question. Pastor John, thank you for your wisdom and encouragement. God was good even in the waiting. I am now humbly serving Him as a youth pastor. Every day is precious, following His lead, serving His people. Just thought of this episode again and wanted to write in with thanks and to offer encouragement for all who feel like I felt!

I've been in this place for along time. I have no career and have no certainty what my next steps are. Any attempts I've made have led to closed doors. I find that sometimes I can't even bother praying about this anymore, feeling as if I am ignored and left unanswered. I figure that God will tell me my next steps in his own time.

This rang very true to me, and explains my battle well. In hopes that this will help me and others get back on track. So many at our church (in my past as well) have turned to workaholism, which sounds to be opposing to acedia. Have you also created a podcast that addresses workaholism? What does the bible say about workaholism? I believe we are to a achieve balance; which should lie somewhere between acedia and workaholism. Is that correct? Many thanks.
