Quality music, regardless of which Stratovarius era. Though like most fans I prefer the Tolkki stuff. Visions, Infinite, & Episode are killer albums.

I do know some Stratovarius, and less than week ago I listened someone reacting to Black Diamond. BUT there's so more to learn, and you inspired me. By the way, Rolf Pilve now plays in Smackbound, a new band I dig a lot (and has a new album under work now). If you wanna take a look for example more energetic song "Drive it like you stole it" and ballad "WInd and Water". (Edit: also Teemu from Wintersun plays guitar in the band).

A little correction. Timo Tolkki was NOT a founding member. But he came in the band in the first year and took over the leadership during the first years.
@MetalAcademix4 жыл бұрын
You are entirely correct, I simplified. I should have specified that Tolkki was playing in the band (and was also the composer of the music) at the time of their first singles (1988) and album (1989), but that he was not around in 1984, the year to which we can track the roots of the band. There is so much to say about Stratovarius! - Anamaria

Timo Tolkki's father committed suicide by jumping out of the window while Timo Tolkki was present. This happened when he was 12 years old. In 2004, Timo Tolkki was diagnosed Bipolar Disorder/Manic Depression.

I probably would have chosen the same songs. I think Elysium would be roo proggy for Michael. If he isn't a fan of Timo Kotipelto's vocals, he should try some early Stratovarius with Timo Tolkki on vocals. The Hands of Time, Out of The Shadows, We Are The Future or maybe Black Night.

Stratovarius is an interesting band. All of the founding members were gone after Fourth Dimension (1994). When they released Episode (1996) all founding members already left. The line-up from 1996 to 2003 (Episode to Elements) are the classic Stratovarius. Still they've kept the band name till today.

Do you have a favorite Stratovarius album? - Anamaria
@KaiStrohscher4 жыл бұрын
@@MetalAcademix The first song by them I listened was Solitude. After that, I did not look for Stratovarius for a while. Then, I decided to purchase an album by them. The first album I bought was Twilight Time which is still one of my favorites. This was 1995. 1996, I went to a music department store and their album Episode was advertised, but I wasn't interested in buying. However, everytime I saw the posters, I gradually felt more inclined to purchase an album. I was amazed how many albums they already released in a short time. Then, 1997, I discovered VISIONS and was thinking. They release another album? I then decided to purchase their Visions album. Since Helloween chose to go a different direction musically, I kind of missed their sound from the Keepers. Stratovarius was the new Helloween for me after listening to Visions. I had trouble getting into Timo Kotipelto's vocals on some of the songs off Visions. After listening to Visions, I decided to purchase Dreamspace, Fourth Dimension, and Episode all together. Dreamspace turned to be my favorite album along with Fourth Dimension. As soon I got familiar with all three albums, I saw on MTV the videoclip of S.O.S. which was the single on Destiny. I was astonished that they already released a new album 1998 which was Destiny. My Stratovarius fever did not end. As soon, Destiny was released I purchased it together with Fright Night. Because, I enjoy the vocals of Timo Tolkki and his guitar playing, I also purchased his solo album Classical Variations with Fire Dance Suite and Soldier's Prayer. My favorite post-Tolkki album is Nemesis. Therefore, my top 5 albums are: 5. Destiny 4. Nemesis 3. Twilight Time 2. Fourth Dimension 1. Dreamspace
@MetalAcademix4 жыл бұрын
@emerald dawn This is a great story, thank you for sharing! I also like Dreamspace and I was playing with the idea of having Abyss as a featured song on the episode (but then chose Black Diamond because it was my first Strato song to really love). Like Michael was saying too, Timo Kotipelto's vocals are not always the easiest to get into, and I agree that Tolkki had a more appealing timbre. But the Stratovarius compositions are unbeatable, a band that doesn't get boring. Even with their latest albums, they deliver solid songs (though a minus for the too pop-like ones, that I personally often skip 🙉). - Anamaria

Poor Kotipelto. Should have listened to songs from the Elements albums if the guy wanted to hear him do high notes. Kotipelto is INSANE on those albums, hahaha. I am friends with Timo Tolkki and he told me that the Elements tour was so rough on Kotipelto that it almost destroyed his voice and ended his career.

I much prefer their older stuff... I kinda liked Nemesis, but never really got into Polaris. I'm also a big Hammerfall fan, so maybe he will like their earlier stuff better too. For some reason I really like the "collection" album Intermission, apart from the good old ones like Visions and even Twilight Time with Timo Tolkki as the lead singer.

Stratovarius my favorite band from long time, my first song I listen of power Metal was from they and was Destiny, the have so diverse songs, from 80's more classic power metal, to 90 with more symphonic, with the last evolution between symphonic and modern styles. For ear the voice of Timo pick Will the sun rise and you can ear high pitch notes (kzbin.info/www/bejne/gYTMpXd_etuen7c) or Find your own voice (kzbin.info/www/bejne/faSoeahjrN14r7c) he lose his high note for a throat disease he have it on 2010, so from there he try to recover his high notes, he still can do it but nor for long time, when I saw him on 2015 for the eternal tour he sign Will the sun rise and was awesome ear him again high notes. For me miss maybe some song from destiny or infinite albums, I with you Anamaria hunting high and low or halcyon days is too pop, I like that but not always, but they being rock from long time and still run.
@MetalAcademix4 жыл бұрын
Destiny, that's another one of their truly #epic songs (and a great album from their 90s style, altogether). And "Will The Sun Rise" is memorable in my ears not only for the high pitch of Timo's voice but also for the baroque keyboard sequence kind of in the middle of the song - for me, typical Stratovarius/Jens :) - Anamaria

A lot of great music and bands comes from Finland. Check out Tarja, the first singer of Nightwish. Tarja has an amazing solo career. It would be nice if you could react to her songs, both live and music videos. I just went over a few songs and hm, i mean ok, but please u cant compare that to this epicness. I dont know maybe are the texts of the songs cause the music is great, but the text of the songs are not epic enough, for me power or symphonic metal is about epicness, if it hasnt got it, compare Vanishing point i dont care what song, to The Caged from Sonata Arctica, and its only one of many very epic sounding tracks from them. Whats better ? Be honest. Im from slovakia, we have some groups but most are pathetic (yeah im not ashamed to say that, they are), but u can find some good tracks if u look closely enough). Anyway VP is good, but not good enough (for me, to be precise, its only my opinion)
@whybother9874 жыл бұрын
I hold the opinion that where is Timo Tolkki there is Stratovarius. But I respect the other opinion. It's just they are playing completely different music now. Which I like, but it's not Stratovarius that created symphonic power metal as a thing.
