7:36 It's actually a bit more than that. CVS2 has a technique called "roll cancel" that basically gives special moves kara cancelled from rolls the strike invincibility of rolls but also very vulnerable to throws. Iori can very safely poke with roll cancel light rekka which is extremely safe (I think -5) and basically can be used as a poke and can blow up those Sakura stand heavy kicks or anything else coming at him, but you can throw it, so Choi is not only reading him not doing anything he'll also beat those rekkas with those throws. That's why if you notice at 7:18 buktooth did a roll cancel fireball to change it up a bit and mess with that. Just a little background.

Watching Mikey D’s video series on the footsies handbook (in addition to playing other fighting games especially UNI) upped my skill like 5 times over I used to play a bit wild, but now that I’ve changed to a more defensive footsies-based playstyle my play has never been better. Nowadays I need to remind myself to drive rush more (and I play Juri) lmao it’s also way more fun and engaging to play this way imo. Constant offense/neutral skips can become repetitive and hinders your growth

DP is hard to punish in SF2 because prox guard is full screen for all attacks

Also, some DPs are straight up safe on block, many supers are as well sometimes spacing dependent. It's also kind of matchup dependent some characters have the reach to punish those DPs, other characters get nothing or a weak punish (eg. Sagat light DP)

I personally don't like the word "footsies" I think it's kind of outdated and almost kind of gives people the wrong idea sometimes that it should be all about trading crouch medium kicks, the word "neutral" is more all encompassing and accurate. But I definitely feel everything is still there in SF6, and because of moves having more recovery and extended hurtboxes, it's so much more important now than before because, countless countless moves in old school fighting games you can basically keep throwing out and "spamming" with very little risk because they are basically impossible to properly whiff punish or stuff on reaction without some sort of hard read, as someone that still plays these old games. At the same time, old games have their own wierd complexity not just from an execution standpoint, but due to balancing oversights and different wakeup timings and character specific combos (everything has basically been standardized in SF6), it offers tons of room for exploration. But anyways, yea SF6 is still a SF game at it's core, the game isn't perfect but saying the game lacks neutral from prior SFs is so innaccurate, if anything there's a bigger emphasis on it in SF6 because again everything is designed to be whiff punished and the punish counter system also.

For a while now people think that neutral simply means being in the midrange even when one of the characters has an attack that can reach that far and the other one doesnt. And yeah footsies is such a broad term even it's meaning varies between people a lot, some people think footsies means being patient, others who have no clue think it means randomly walking back and forward with no goal and whiff attacks fullscreen
