You have years of experience. The average guy will need to cut back to only "one" option from entry. Fewer options=faster reaction time because under duress the mind will regress to the known self-conditioned reflex. That strike to the neck affects all the rest of the tactics. Hitting this target- the subject will be very lucky to stay conscious. Before Tony did this with spear- M. Hurst was teaching this back in the 80's. I have used it ever since with a slight modification because of my height and weight difference. Alex was doing this in the 90's in the Charleston area and has some great takes on it as well. Anyway- good stuff.

two words........muscle memory
@Tyler_Lalonde-7 жыл бұрын
Lori Powell which is misunderstood. Your brain is what gets trained to react not your muscles. So if you train bad you will perform bad.
@pandabearlp7 жыл бұрын
so by your logic, all training is useless, unless you're training with real bullets and sharp edges. So if your Uke is coming at you with a wooden tanto, regardless of how honest his attack is, you are not training because there is no true fear of being cut? Your muscles are an extension of your brain. Have you ever learned a technique? everything starts slow and as you build the foundation of that muscle memory, the technique speeds up. He is building muscle memory via quick-twitch response; similar to how wing chun practitioners practice on a wooden dummy or how other arts have katas. he is not applying any technique other than deflections, because deflections have to be fast in order to be effective.
@Tyler_Lalonde-7 жыл бұрын
Lori Powell no i am just not a fan of bad demos or training that are bad on purpose. Your twitch muscles get stronger but they do not remeber the moves.

How du you defense if the attacker comes with "wrong hand"? in other words...if the attacker feints you..like boxer could do..you think his left will come and you starts to defend against his left but instead it comes a right...do you understand???
@teodorstefanov9846 жыл бұрын
Man it depends on how the situation is, he show this technique for right left hand jabs, but he is how you say boxer with the "wrong hand" he will go for other techniques, so don't think it is only that hands with only that technique, it depends on how the situation is, that's why you must have good reactions and good reflex!!!

I would love to see you block with your elbow like that in a real right, not to say you can’t incorporate aikido into actual fighting but that blocking is ridiculous and you are going to get people hurt. Use a normal guard that actually works and has been PROVEN to work in combat and not leaving you completely open for counter punches from anyone who knows to pull their hands back to their guard.. it’s absolutely ridiculous, I challenge you to use this technique against ANY resisting partner(even one with no training) not people at you gym/dojo. If you want to defend yourself in real life learn the basics first(kickboxing, wrestling, and BJJ) and then add flashy shit when your skilled enough to actually use it. Not trying to be a jerk but have you or any of your students ever used any of these techniques in actual fighting competitions I would be very interested to see the footage if there is any.
@donadkins94506 жыл бұрын
My Sensei, also a Tenshin practitioner, will use this after intentionally pissing of the punching student to show that it really does work. And it does.
@mr.coffee74346 жыл бұрын
The elbow block is actually similar to the bong sao of wing chun (was that the block you were referring to?) A friend of mine who does wing chun did it to me, and I took it up for myself. It's a really useful technique when I get surprised and i don't wanna backup to do the long guard (probably cause I'm lazy and rooted on the floor XD HAHA 😂).
@2ndGale5 жыл бұрын
I am a bit iffy about the elbow block, but the arm/head spin technique he uses at 3:00 has been used before in wrestling matches to counter wrestling shots after sprawls. A variation of that same technique is your standing or ground quarter nelson. Sparring and competition-wise, it can work and has worked before. In self-defense situations, this variation of the technique isn't optimal. There are countless other variations that are more efficient in the street and this one isn't one that I believe to be viable. Regardless, this is merely combo drilling for sensitivity and to learn how to flow.
