Hi Rupert. I ordered and today received your Fine Art Street Photography book I'm not a photographer per se although I was a keen amateur in my youth. However life, career, family and stuff took over and I never continued with it. I'm now at a point in my life where I have both the time and financial freedom to rekindle my love of photography and explore my creative side. I'm still at the beginning of that journey which involves a lot of reading, KZbin videos such as yours and trying to discover where my niche is - street photography, landscapes, portraits or something else. I do vividly recall though that when I was younger I loved taking candid photos of family or strangers. Your videos have already given me inspiration and I know your book will also help me greatly in this journey. Thank you.

Wow! That's the same situation I'm in. The plus side of this point in time is that there is so much less expensive used gear to choose from. If I could give you any advice join a local Camera Club. That may help you find your niche.

I just found you. I went from shooting Nikon for 40 years to Panasonic. I traded my m 4/3 gear to buy into the Fuji system. I own the Pro 2 and later the XT20 and 23, 35 f/2.0 and 16 and 27 f2.8 lens. The 27 is the Goldie lock lens, and I could make it with just the 27 and XT20. Light and small package and don’t have to worry about setting once you figure out system. Haven’t thought about f/16 as I have mostly used f/5.6. Will be following this thread.

Love the content. Olympus all the way for me, E-M5 II and the 17mm 1.8 although my head has been turned recently by the PL 15mm 1.7. Super fast auto focus, easy peasy to go manual and pre-focus (set the the Function lever position 2 to manual focus, press the button to focus on a zone and shoot away, then back to pos 1 for S-AF), responsive touch screen/touch to shoot and awesome IBIS.

So if you shoot at f16, how do you deal with diffraction? My images start to degrade at around f11 onwards using Fuji lenses. Any advice on this?

I think you would love Ricoh gr3x since you tend to go for a 35~40mm focal length! I used an Olympus when I changed to mirrorless and then Fuji for a few years and since 2019 with Ricoh GR iii, best I ever had! I also should say not at all good for video! Enjoy every episode, thank you!🍻

So if I understand correctly, you would use lower aperture (or higher focal lenght), the brighter the light and vice verssa.

Rupert, such great work on your night photography and I was so exited to see you now have an xt30 as I have been debating whether or not to get the xt30ii with the 18-55 or a used xt-3 or even a new xt5 because of weather sealing and stabilization. Hoping to start shooting street as well as nighttime so wanted to get your thoughts on the kit lens vs getting a faster prime. I’d love to get your opinion on whether the 18-55 2.8-4 woolukd be handicapping myself too much. Seems like it wouldn’t based on your choice of camera and zoom. Thanks so much. Very inspired.

I've not used the 18-55, it's mostly metal so might be a little heavier but have read some excellent reviews for the price.

Informative and helpful. I currently shoot with an Panasonic GX9 and the 12-40mm pro lens. Planning on getting a Fuji XE4 sometime in the new year.
@lorenschwiderski
@lorenschwiderski Жыл бұрын
The XE-4 is indeed interesting. Did you also consider the XT-30 II ? I have the GX-9, and it is working out great. I have several lenses, including the 30mm macro, which is very sharp and accurate focusing ( made in Japan ) and only $298, when on sale. The 12-60 kit lens is pretty good -- when it is bright out. Take care, Loren
@Sean-Smith-Photos
@Sean-Smith-Photos Жыл бұрын
@@lorenschwiderski I have not looked at the XT-30. I need to save some money before I'm ready to buy and will likely look at it at that point. I'm planning to buy sometime in April or May. I have a 5 lens' which I no longer use for my GX9 which I just put up for sale. The two lenses I'm keeping are the 12-40mm pro and the 8mm Fisheye. I do have the 60mm macro lens which also doubles as a great portrait lens, but I just don't ever use it anymore.

I just discovered you a few weeks ago & so appreciate your teaching. I’ve been shooting for many yrs w/Olympus (& love them). Now, I’m experiencing less mental clarity so have trouble remembering what button/dial does what. Am afraid that if I stop shooting, my mind will fade more. Ergo - I keep trying. Am trying iPhone Photography, but so far, I am dissatisfied. I’d love to stay w/my OMD Mark 2, but am considering downgrading to a PEN., or??? Can you suggest an alternative? I really don’t want to stop shooting, as that tends to add to depression. ( I apologize for the heaviness of this msg. Am at a loss.)

Hi Carol, I would always say use the camera you find easiest to use, the one that doesn't get in the way of you taking pictures. I think the joy should always be in the photography itself and not in what you are using to do it.

I find your videos inspiring and your words have helped me a lot in my photo work. However there is something about the video material itself that I struggle with. Why do you use the interlaced frames instead of progressive?.. By now, most digital cameras shoot good 24p at various resolutions. There's easy fixes on the video options, that would get you better footage, which I think your videos absolutely deserve.

Same old stuff. Person in light, surrounded by shadows--someone walking alone, etc., etc., etc. But do any of them invoke an emotion, tell a story or make you want to ask a question? No, they don't. Technically, they're good images. Good shadows and the light areas are done well, but they're boring and meaningless. Street photography should invoke a feeling, an emotion, make you wonder what is happening or what should be happening. These are pictures but not really meaningful images.

you opinion only. i do not find the posted images boring. the implied narrative within an image is the viewer's prerogative. thumbs up.
