This is great. I'm a 44 year old judoka. My primary goal is to be fit until I die. I think the secret is to maintain your discipline as you age. I don't think the average 60 year old can ever work his way up to that level of fitness. Improve yes, but to that level? I'll bet he's been walking that road since he was a kid. Spread this video around! The world needs it.

@@ep6026 I'll be happy if you prove me wrong. I wrote my original comment ten years ago. Since then, I've developed severe bone spurs in one hip, but I'm trying to deal with it through stretching and exercise. Good luck to you.

@chrisdonovan8795 I was only kidding I'm not 60 I'm 39 but I know what you mean about starting later in life. To quote Pat McNamara "motion is lotion" , wise words for staying in shape during later years in life.

You are absolutely right. It is easier to ride the emotional wave to get in shape or to try new exercise programs for 3-6 months. But 10,15,20 year commitments is the key. A lifetime is even better. not necessarily to live forever, but to give back to the sport and inspire the up and comers.

There's no secret here, he's a lifelong athlete. Some people train hard in their youth, but once they hit middle age and their body doesn't respond the way it used to, they throw in the towel and stop training, or at least take the intensity down several notches. The lesson here is to never stop pushing, never stop striving.

He's your picture perfect example of gnarled up finger, toes and joints. His knee pops in and out of joint just by moving it with his hand. The truly amazing part is that he can do these things cold at any time whenever asked to. Unreal!

Hi there, I am 50 and was into international competition judo for many years, when I was in my twenties. Since then the my (japanese style= only bodyweight) judo conditioning accompanied me since. Even if for one or another reason you can't do real Judo training anymore, with 'street workout' type of calisthenic exercises you will remain very strong and explosive and pretty injury proof. All kind of pull ups, bar dips, burpees,etc.. every day. Age 25 my fighting weight class was 72 kg. Still is.
@MHMOVEMENT10 жыл бұрын

Wish I had a dojo and senseis like this where I live. Extremely impressive.
@petertomov57288 жыл бұрын
+MeliorIlle Actually... you don't need a dojo as long as you have the willpower to stick to your training. Build a base without any weights for at least 6-10 months and then just keep going on :D
@MeliorIlle8 жыл бұрын
Peter Tomov I would still have no one to teach me elite Judo.
@petertomov57288 жыл бұрын
MeliorIlle That is true. But my original point stands: To create basic muscle mass one needs for proper training it takes a few months [2-8 depending on your muscle type ] of training with your own body. There are especially some exercises even most people who go to the gym ignore and that causes sever problems later. E.g.: exercises for M.sacrospinalis Trust me, it's a lot better to train techniques, if you have the proper basis. And as a person who went from rigorous exercising to not exercising rather abruptly about 10 years ago, I can tell you, that the aches, that come from not having properly taken care of the muscle parties that keep a human standing upright ... are rather nasty. In the past few months I've been trying to get back into at least some training routine, but it's a lot more difficult, than I remember it to be :D On the other hand, I know it's worth it... so hopefully I can stick to it ^_^
@MeliorIlle8 жыл бұрын
