I have had shoulder and neck pain on the same side for years now. The physiotherapist that I went to referred it to the bulged neck disk, but I still don't see that much progress after his sessions. Everything under my clavicle bone and shoulder bone cracks a lot when I make any movement, while my other side doesn't act the same. It always comes back whenever I'm stressed or started working out again. I kept telling my PT I really can't work out because of the pain!! and he just says to keep doing the neck strengthening exercises and clinical massage for muscle tension. But here I am back again with the pain after a couple of low-intensity at-home workouts!!

You probably have thoracic outlet syndrome. Do your shoulders constantly slouch down at rest? Look up videos by MSK neurology on youtube.

Use the cable machine at the gym. This way, you can apply progressive overload by increasing weight and/or reps.
