After making this video I realized there are a few thoughts I left out.... 1. In my opinion most of these products are a bit overpriced for what you're receiving. If you're a handy person or can do some DIY stuff head in that direction. Or go with gymnastic rings, they will serve you for a long time for minimal expense. 2. The lower bar (basebar but there are other companies) can be really handy for developing your first pull-up if you're not there yet. This is because as you see in the video, you can do rows on it quite easily. This will help you develop your back muscles enough to eventually get that pullup. 3. If you want to do weighted pull ups, which are great for developing more back strength... you'll most likely want to go with a squat stand variation because you need something sturdy. 4. My pick: if money isn't a worry I'd go with a squat stand. If I'm on a budget I go with rings. Combining both is your own personal training heaven at home :)

Doesnt the doorway pull up ruin the door for us that are renting?

No. Not necessarily. Make sure you have something which stops rubbing. You might need to sand and paint afterwards. But they don’t cause real damage.

I too am 43, things like freehangs and negatives might be really helpful for getting your joints ready. Some long resistance bands are super helpful. The hanging is great for grip and getting your shoulders into proper overhead extension and strengthening the shoulder joints prior to developing the muscles for pullups. Congratulations on your weight loss and all of your current progress!!! 👏

I built a pair of pullup bars in my back yard using 4x4's, buckets sunk into the ground with concrete, a pipe and a flange. There are lots of youtube videos out there to show you how to do it and this was an easy project. The result has been fantastic. By the way, I'll soon be 67 and I'm still working out 4 days a week. Even sets of hanging from the bar for as long as I seem really beneficial.

Hangs are the most underrated exercise there is. I had all sorts of niggles in my shoulder and back from sitting in office chairs all day for decades, and after seeing a YT video about hangs I started on them and within a month all my niggles disappeared. I got my parents who are in their 70's onto them and they said they now feel 10 years younger, just from some simple hangs (and walking). Everyone I know who does them raved about how much better they feel now.

So I am a custodial/maintenance worker in a college dormitory. My office is in an old boiler room in the basement. There are pipes in the ceiling no longer in use but have not been removed and are anchored sturdy into the concrete ceiling. 4 years ago at age 48 I decided to get my health in order. I initially started hanging from the pipe. Now 3 days a week I do pullups before work, on my morning break, my lunch, my afternoon break and just after work. I could only do 2 pullups 4 years as I said. I now do 15 with a 53 lb kettlebell. Of course it helped that I reduced my bodyweight by 53 lbs. As I said, I do pullups 5 times a day, 3 days a week. The other 2 days, I do weighted dips. I use a 106 lb kettlebell for dipping. Full disclosure, I was a powerlifter until age 33.. then life got busy and complicated like most people. I did not tend to my fitness. I enjoy using gymnastics rings because the are easier on my shoulders and the pipe makes it easy to attach them. My employer is actually exceedingly positive as there is a health program at my University so they are supportive and do not mine I used my breaks to do exercises. On my lunch I do some kettlebell swings with the 106 lb. 500 two hand swings for time. It has changed my life dramatically. At 48, my blood sugar was 148. Which is considered high. Without going on medication and by losing 53 lbs over 2 years my blood sugar was 86. I have have maintained that level ever since. What really helped me was reading about greasing the groove by Pavel and by doing 50% of my max reps. I have also used 10 sets od 3 rep weight lifting cycle to add weight to pullups. Another nice thing about the rings from the ceiling it I do rows with mu feet elevated. I put a sandbag on my chest.

I love the rings personally because of their multiple applications. When finished you can stow them in a back pack and carry them easily. I love the fact they’re so portable. The other reason is I can get my shoulders into external rotation with multiple exercises eg pull up, dip, top position which is good for cuff activation

Also, if you're short (5'6") like me. Those A-frame systems have a lot more stability when not extended as high.

Preferable near my patio doors that can open and let the sun in when exercising. When my little cousins come over I can lower the rings and lay a gym mat underneath for them to play with. That would be perfect and a dream come true. Thank you for your great content 👌🏻🙌🏻

Expanding on rings for anyone who's watching. Aim to go for wooden made ones over other material.. depending on how serious you are on using them to improve your strength and fitness, you can get numbered straps so you can track your progress throughout workouts. Consider getting grip chalk as at times when you're doing hanging/pulling exercises you'll want to eliminate palm sweat as a factor of you finishing a workout pre-maturally compared to giving it your all. The diameter of the rings I use (grip wise) is 32mm but if you're looking to get your kids involved use the smaller diameter so they can grip onto them properly

I am 67 years and 8 months old, and next week I will be 67 years and 9 months old. I can do more pull-ups as a senior citizen on Medicare than I could when I was an active-duty United States Marine. I own many pull-up stations. I recommend buying the Stamina PT 1690 Pull-Up/Dip station. It is so good, I own two of them. One is in my backyard patio gym and the other is in my bedroom. I own the Base Block, the Base Block Big Bar Plus, the KT "Toes Don't Touch The Ground Pull-Up Station, the Arm Assassin Strength Shop Revolving Ladder, the Titan Fitness Flying Pull-Up Power Rack Attachment, the Powertec Assisted Pull-Up/Dip Machine, which I can do unassisted pull-ups on, and other pull-up bars. The reason why the Stamina PT 1690 Pull-Up/Dip station is the best option is because of the many exercises that can be done on it, which include pull-ups, chin-ups, dips, push-ups, sit-ups, mountain climbers, leg raises, knee raises (or frog kicks), and even belt squats. If you put a tool handle or a bar in between the spacers that separate the pull-up portion from the dip handles, you can also do vertical rows. I recommend using a daisy chain to do assisted pull-ups as a progression exercise. Just throw a daisy chain climbing strap, which you can buy 2 for $9.95 on Amazon across the pull-up bar. Grap the end loops and pull yourself up with just enough assistance from your legs to build up intra and inter-muscular coordination in the many muscle groups that are needed to do an unassisted pull-up. The best way to train is to do partial reps to failure. Vladimir Zatsiorsky, the former consultant to Soviet Olympic Teams and Penn State University Professor Emeritus of Kinesiology, asserts that doing the Repeated Effort Strength Training Method of lifting nonmaximal weights or exerting nonmaximal force to failure is the best way to develop muscular endurance and hypertrophy (size). Partial reps are the best way because you can do the most reps, which burn more calories and induce the body to create more mitochondrial and capillary density, which enables your muscle cells to create more energy while allowing the increased number of capillaries to bring more glucose, nutrients, and oxygen to your muscle cells.

Super thanks. Great inspiration you give me. Ive decided to make a pulluprack in my garden. Unfortunately i have a shoulder injury so its hard to train for muscle ups. But I will get there with your videos. Time to work on flexibility in the meantime!

If you have a loft in your house or apartment you can usually figure a way to attach rings to the inside of the opening or even to the roof trusses above if they are in the right place. Could be an option for a short rope climb :)

Great video, I have a new deck (like the one in your video) that is high off the ground and have been wondering what kind of pull-up setup to hang on it. Love the idea of the rings! Thx for this video!

I’ve never been able to do a pull up but love strength training. I want to achieve my first one this year. I think I would want rings because I could rig them up so many places!

My favorite is a pull-up bar that fits in doorway, for easier in house use. After that I also got a cap squat bar for the garage with a set of rings on it. This and skipping the kip I had originally learned in CrossFit has been a real game changer with my fitness.

My favourite setup is the only one I have, a simple wall bar and paralel bars (thats all I could afford at the time, but they've helped me a lot) but I'd definetely have the squat rack if I had the money lol

I got a pull up bar and a tree branch but I’m so excited to use rings for the spinny element on my wrists and I’m about to go on the road so I’ve been looking for something to take with me and maybe it’s ambitious but it would be cool to have a low bar in the van but idk. It’s crazy you posted this the morning I was gonna post my pull up reel in an effort to not worry about training in public you guys are awesome ❤

I have a pull-up bar in the backyard and I love it but I’d like to get a squat rack for the garage for when the weather is bad
