Oversimplification. Comparisons of this kind are generally unhelpful. To claim "wrestling is to boxing as calisthenics is to powerlifting" is to make false assumptions that we could discuss but I really don't care.It is not that you are "wrong" because one can make comparisons of these nature for the sake of entertainment perhaps, but in doing so you also vastly oversimplify the differences and similarities between the two disciplines.

@mattkaye65598 жыл бұрын
So, let's say they both trained those exercises for 2 months before. They're all weighted... and Kora weighs about 9kg (20lbs) more than Matthias. And they have similar bodytypes... the 20lbs is muscle. Even with that, and the judging being in favor of the one who goes to the gym instead of the street and parks (as it usually is for strength wars) Matthias came very close to beating Kora. The point in the end is that for upper body workouts. Calisthenics will get you more strength per pound of muscle, and gym workouts will get you bigger, and therefore stronger, but not as strong per pound. If you wanna just call BS... In calisthenics you are using your bodyweight, so your body adapts and doesn't grow as much so it is easier to move yourself. When lifting weights, the body doesn't care how big it gets, as long as it can lift the necessary weight.

+Harry wilkinson What the calisthenics guy do when doing "pull ups"? Maybe PULLING UP his weight+any external weight he wants? A weightlifting competition is the only way to make it an exclusive strength competition. Levers, Flags, even Muscle Ups are much more about technique than raw strength.
@Oxideist9 жыл бұрын
+Lucas Freire more about technique than strength? I'm sorry, but you're wrong in that regard. calisthenics is about muscular endurance, the ability to move your own bodyweight for extended periods of time. levers and flags aren't just technique like shooting a bow and arrow or dribbling a basketball, they're about muscles being able to hold a strenuous position for a long time. weight lifting is about your muscles working heavily for short periods of time, then giving them rest before exerting them again. The muscle that body building gives you isn't suitable for calisthenics, I would know, I switched from weight lifting to calisthenics about two years ago, it was an incredibly hard transition at first because I wasn't used to doing those kinds of movements. Once my muscles changed themselves to be lighter and stronger pound for pound, I made progress.
@AlmightViper9 жыл бұрын

In bench competitions, the winner is the person that lifted the higher percentage to their body weight. If the competition used similar parameters, it might be a completely different ballgame. I'd also throw in another callisthenics exercise to provide a good comparison of their physical ability. Pushups would be an ideal choice, as would dips. But I suppose the channel was focused on lifting rather than bar and floor work.

Bodybuilder can't even do a perfect pull up!
@alexanderpeoplefox71178 жыл бұрын
Considering the power-lifter had about 9 kg on him and looked a tad leaner, not to mention the fact 2/3 of the drills would benefit a lifter rather than a strongman... I'm going to say the calisthenics guy probably outperformed him by twice the margin.
@NadavHbr9 жыл бұрын
The whole thing is very little calisthenics and a lot of powerlifting
@Burog19 жыл бұрын
Your just mad cause he lost bitch. deadlift, pull up, squat cleans its not their fault that the calisthenics guy had weaker legs should of trained them more.
@405bench89 жыл бұрын
+Samurai Squat he was fucking strong, 66kg, 120*10 and his pull ups were strict as fuck compared to the powerlifter. As a powerlifter myself, the calisthenic guy is on a whole new level, hes a fucking unit
@Burog19 жыл бұрын
+john lindwood I never said he was I'm just tired of these dudes making excuses of y he LOSS and trying to take the win from the powerbuilder the guy knew what he was up against HE LOSS FAIR and square!!! the pull up part had no such rules that the powerlifter broke that's the other guys problem for not taking advantage.
@405bench89 жыл бұрын
Samurai Squat yeah he loss but the powerbuilder was in a whole different weight class lol.. The movements were power lifting biased so ofc hes gonna win ahhahah I never said the powerlfiter broke any rules, but his pull up quality was not as good as the calisthenics guy.
@Burog19 жыл бұрын
john lindwood hey as long there's no excuses its fine lol the lighter guy will usually be better at pull ups js.

Moral: The power lifter is a douche bag and the calisthenics dude is a nice guy who actually has functional strength and mobility outside the gym

True. He was also very sympathatic !
@Alpha-User014 жыл бұрын
Wait... The PowerBuilder guy is bigger and taller than the calisthenics guy, but lifted the same weights and the calisthenics guy almost won there. Which means if he had the same size as the PowerBuilder guy he could've won.
@robertyoung4063 жыл бұрын
If the power builder was halted for every sloppy pull up, the calisthenics dude would have won for sure

@@robertyoung406 tbh it was unfair, there were more powerbuilding challenges than calisthenic challenges
@maxdennehy64146 жыл бұрын
I have never commented before but i had to say something because i thought this was completely biased and unfair. Calisthenics is exercise with your own body weight and aims towards body mastery. Powerlifiting is exactly as described, now i have tremendous respect for both athletes and know the dedication needed to achieve their level of fitness and strength. However having Dead lift and weighted squats is completely favorable to the Powerlifter. The powerlifter can lift heavier faster and this test was a test of that, i would like to see the powerlifter have a one armed pull up challenge or leg raises, handstand pushups etc. of coarse still make it fair by having tough exercises from both sports. All in all i think this made people who do not understand think calisthenics is weaker than powerlifting and yes in cases it is but it also is not, and yes this channel focuses on strength so i understand that perspective but it just annoyed me how unfair it was.

Max Dennehy Weight lifting makes you STRONGER than calisthenics overall. But, calisthenics gives you a stronger core and allows for better movement of one’s own body weight. You have to give credit where it’s due.
@muza_vfx2 жыл бұрын
they should have added one more test, and that should be one arm pushup😂
@Lxkumar6927 жыл бұрын
he lifts weight daily so obviously he will win and moreover except pushup all the challenges were not for Calisthenic , but you showed it Calisthenics can do it ... hats off man ... Calisthenics , let there be a 1) human flag hold challege with weight 2) add sprint with parachute balance everything you know for both powerlifter and Calisthenics ...

sorry pullup , it typed pushup ... my bad ... add dive bombers and sit thrust we will see what those free weighters will do ...

exercises favour the powerlifter and half of his pull ups shouldn't have counted.
@OffGridMadMan5 жыл бұрын
Powerlifter only did about 10 clean pull ups. These are always rigged towards the gym rats, GOD BLESS ALL CALI GEEZERS! ;)
