Oversimplification. Comparisons of this kind are generally unhelpful. To claim "wrestling is to boxing as calisthenics is to powerlifting" is to make false assumptions that we could discuss but I really don't care.It is not that you are "wrong" because one can make comparisons of these nature for the sake of entertainment perhaps, but in doing so you also vastly oversimplify the differences and similarities between the two disciplines.

So again for everybody stating this was in favour of Koray: Sorry but no. Matthias is the German champion in weighted Pull Ups. So Deadlift -> easy for Koray. Pull Ups -> easy for Matthias. Matthias even was up when it came to clean squat with 50kg! The last discipline was the one to decide the battle and this was pretty easy in terms of weight FOR BOTH, but a question of willpower and endurance. We are searching for the best / most complete athletes.

Much respect to both warriors, they both gave 150% and that should not be diminished in any way. But Korays pull ups were reaaaaaaally sloppy. With all due understanding that this is not a strict pull up competition, still...the constant legkicks to get the chin over the bar were way way more than you can excuse. Matthias did 100% perfect pull ups all the way. If the same was expected for both, Koray wouldn't even have finished the 20 pull ups at all. Still, both did a great job and congrats to Koray

HybridCalisthenics is okay for beginners but other than that all the ones mentioned in this comment section are pretty bad. Good calisthenics KZbinrs: Barkage overall, especially if you wanna be elite; Sondre Berg for handstands; Gymnastics Method for prehab and beginners; theJackedVegan’s interviews, especially with the legend himself Elias Page (whose channel is Street Workout Addiction); and finally Saturnomovement for mobility training. Tom Merrick is also pretty good for that but Saturnomovement is better imo. Do not watch trash KZbinrs like FitnessFAQs!! I know that it’s rough, especially if you love these guys like I used to, but you will not progress HALF as fast as you could be by watching those guys. Trust me. Do not make the mistake that I made. So, let's say they both trained those exercises for 2 months before. They're all weighted... and Kora weighs about 9kg (20lbs) more than Matthias. And they have similar bodytypes... the 20lbs is muscle. Even with that, and the judging being in favor of the one who goes to the gym instead of the street and parks (as it usually is for strength wars) Matthias came very close to beating Kora. The point in the end is that for upper body workouts. Calisthenics will get you more strength per pound of muscle, and gym workouts will get you bigger, and therefore stronger, but not as strong per pound. If you wanna just call BS... In calisthenics you are using your bodyweight, so your body adapts and doesn't grow as much so it is easier to move yourself. When lifting weights, the body doesn't care how big it gets, as long as it can lift the necessary weight.

@Oxideist
@Oxideist 9 жыл бұрын
+Lucas Freire more about technique than strength? I'm sorry, but you're wrong in that regard. calisthenics is about muscular endurance, the ability to move your own bodyweight for extended periods of time. levers and flags aren't just technique like shooting a bow and arrow or dribbling a basketball, they're about muscles being able to hold a strenuous position for a long time. weight lifting is about your muscles working heavily for short periods of time, then giving them rest before exerting them again. The muscle that body building gives you isn't suitable for calisthenics, I would know, I switched from weight lifting to calisthenics about two years ago, it was an incredibly hard transition at first because I wasn't used to doing those kinds of movements. Once my muscles changed themselves to be lighter and stronger pound for pound, I made progress.

In my opinion the calisthenic guy won, this is considering that he doesn't lift weights like the other guy, except for the weight of his own body. Now let's have a completion where the weightlifter is doing the type of stuff the other guy does. Who will win? Not the weightlifter, that's for sure.

Hello everyone, its me, Matthias! Thank you very much for all the support, now some statements from myself conserning the competition: - first, big THANKS to @BodybuildingRev for making this happen, it was a great opportunity for Koray and me to compete against each other and to get to know each other - all my respect to Koray, really strong, humble and good competitor - I agreed to the exercises, yes I train legs, I also use weights, everyone should who wants to be more complete. There was nothing unfair about it. - For the cleans in the end, I just was too dead, also mentally, it was really tough!! - Strengthwars is still young and like any Sport and Events will evolve an get better, so to everyone, please keep the critics positive, its a great thing, they do! - this battle was very close, so nothing unfair about it, I enjoyed the challenge - last but not least: NEVER BE A KEYBOARD WARRIOR AND STAY OPEN MINDED; FIRST THINK THEN TYPE;) All the best, Matthias

+BodybuildingRev What about this challenge, you should use percentages of the bodyweight. Not 50 kg and 50 kg when there is a difference in the bodyweight of athletes, next time to something like this, : 25% of bodyweight added 20 pull ups, etc. this is more fair.
@ImDrizzt
@ImDrizzt 9 жыл бұрын
+aresman1234 Yeah, it's rly friggin cool, but what can we do, we have to judge it, cos they can't balance this very well. To make it more fair, do stuff outdoors where Calistetic have more chance. I read the guy was a killer at pull ups, but all 3 of them are powerlifter exercises. Just change it, do push ups, pull ups (no weights), and something semi endurance for legs, and powerlifter loses all 3

Even a blind can see the calisthenic guy was the better one. Almost 10kg weight handicap and on top of that compete with weights in everything. And powerlifter crappy reps are counted. For different bodyweight, the weights used should be adjusted accordingly. U cant be using same weight for a 13years old vs 15years old do u?

In bench competitions, the winner is the person that lifted the higher percentage to their body weight. If the competition used similar parameters, it might be a completely different ballgame. I'd also throw in another callisthenics exercise to provide a good comparison of their physical ability. Pushups would be an ideal choice, as would dips. But I suppose the channel was focused on lifting rather than bar and floor work.

I have never commented before but i had to say something because i thought this was completely biased and unfair. Calisthenics is exercise with your own body weight and aims towards body mastery. Powerlifiting is exactly as described, now i have tremendous respect for both athletes and know the dedication needed to achieve their level of fitness and strength. However having Dead lift and weighted squats is completely favorable to the Powerlifter. The powerlifter can lift heavier faster and this test was a test of that, i would like to see the powerlifter have a one armed pull up challenge or leg raises, handstand pushups etc. of coarse still make it fair by having tough exercises from both sports. All in all i think this made people who do not understand think calisthenics is weaker than powerlifting and yes in cases it is but it also is not, and yes this channel focuses on strength so i understand that perspective but it just annoyed me how unfair it was.
