Just for reference for other people who might have similar feet to me, I am a 9.5 on the Branock device and I’m between a C and D width, leaning more towards C. I have low arches. I tend to wear 8.5 D for most boots, including my red wing moc toes, and grant stone and they fit fine. A 9D fits way too lose on my heel and I get major heel slip so 8.5 D works for me. I just ordered a 9C for my Nicks so hopefully those fit perfectly when they come in.

Thanks for taking the time to do this. All great tips. One very minor variation, at least for me: I am a 12.2 on the Brannock. I wear an 11.5 on the Iron Ranger (8 last) and 12 on the Moc Toe (23 last). I have tried the same Red Wing insole in both of them and my feet imprints are in the same spot in the shoe, perhaps because the Moc Toe’s 23 last is definitely narrower in the toe area, which may have the effect of lengthening the toe slightly.

I went to my Red Wing store in Amsterdam. Guy said that IR and mocs have the exact same length and width. So you’d be the same size in both. Mocs offer a bit more space on top. Still haven’t picked up a moc myself to confirm (other than 1907 and a 9875 in EE, but they’re completely different in sizing).

I’ve bought the Billy Boot in the same size (8D) as my IR’s and they were a tiny bit too tight and a pain to break in. I’ve eventually sold them and bought a pair of 877’s halve a size bigger (8.5 D). They feel as much to big as the Billy boot felt to tight. I have a pair of Pecos in 8.5 E, together with the IR’s they’re my best fitting RW’s.

Running shoes definitely require more space in the toe box so you aren’t jamming your toes against the end of the shoe and so your feet can splay out healthy and how they are supposed to be. That being said, Red Wing needs to invest more on their width of boots and fix their sizing issues, especially in the Moc Toe department.

Same problem here. I measure an 8E on a Brannock but I wear size 9.5-10 in sneakers. I have Thorogood Mocs in 8.5EE that fit well but only cause those come with an insole. Trying on some Beckmans, the guy at the shop recommended to try an 8.5 or a 9 cause they only come in D. Confusing as hell.

And 12 D in Iron Rangers no insoles. I recommend Darn Tough socks. Sometimes insoles don’t always work. You can always adjust the fit with different weight of merino wool socks. If it helps anyone, I went a half size down from my usual Adidas fit but with the caveat I wear those kinda neat. I wear size 9UK in Nike AF1. I went 1/2 size down in IR - fits perfectly comfortably out the box. I have wide ish feet. If it’s uncomfortable, then you‘be got the wrong size imo or you’re only used to wearing tennis shoes and have no leather boot experience. Get a bigger size if it’s tight and uncomfortable on day 1. That’s just common sense.

How easy was it to remove? Ive heard some wear the boots for a few weeks before inserting the leather insole, I tried that and the boot was vary roomy... so went right back to wearing the insole in them, but theyre just a bit tighter then id like. I suspect removing the sponge part from the leather insole would make things just right for me. also how does the 23 last feel/fit, when compared to a 45 without the insole at all?... id assume similar but with the 45 being slightly more roomy then the 23 last. also I just gotta point out that those last numbers are kobe (8) and jordans (23/45) jersey numbers haha

@@TysonHook-22- Haha! I didn’t even think of that! I’ll take(8/23/45) as a good sign. But yeah, my experience is the same as yours. 45 without the insole is too roomy. I tried that method first. The 8 and 23 are designed so that your foot makes an imprint in the leather footbed and it works great! Snug fit at first but very comfortable in probably 6 weeks and then forever. The rubber peeled off fairly easily for me for some reason. Then the fit was very much like the 23.

I’m an 11.5-12 in sneakers (really a 12 but like my skate shoes tight for board feel) and wear 10.5 iron rangers. I get the different lasts for a different in steps and uses but why make everything for men size down from true to size? Why not just save yourself and your customers the frustration and make them true to size?

you know every comment about sizing i've ever seen on this 5 year old channel has been about how dumb too-big boots are but now I finally have proof that there's even disagreement about that!

It's not to size down for aesthetics. Half size down from brannock is generally where the boots actually fit. It's the case for me, although in IRs I wear true to size because I have a wide foot. Mocs are half size down though because they're not as narrow. Otherwise you'll have swimming feet and rub your heels off. I HAVE however seen wide footed people with super narrow shoes literally stretched over the sole. Almost swollen looking and definitely painful probably. There's slight discomfort, and downright wrong size IMO.

It’s not just because they’re good looking, but also because they’re super durable. I bought 13 pairs so far (in the span of a year) and I genuinely feel they will all last a lifetime. Before I would buy new sneakers every year. They’d look shitty after a few months and starting to fall apart.

I do a lot of outdoors stuff (hiking, hunting, camping etc.) and they're really good for those sorts of things as well. But even still, they're just a nice looking stylish boot. I wouldn't question a blue collar worker wearing dress shoes to a restaurant.

What a f-ing waste of opportunity. This sales man could have explained how exactly these should feel when new, where would they stretch, where they won't and could have importantly mentioned what should definitely be a sign to go size up. Like what can one learn from this video? Absolutely nothing. Speak fast, edit a lot, add music but don't speak what's important. Perfection!
