Filson has a few specific items that are worth the price. I dig that first limited ombre in the gold-ish color, but aside from that it really comes down to their staple outerwear like the tin pants and waxed and oiled coats made in America.

I think Filson’s saw market and income potential in creating or evolving their products to be more “fashionable.” But doing so at the expense of their heritage line was probably a misstep. With Red Wing Shoes they contracted their workboots abroad to make them more affordable etc. BUT they maintained their reputation by retaining their heritage boots as a separate section.
@PaulAndBiscuitАй бұрын
Of course, it is a great brand that deserve to gravitate to that level! If you want something that is simply hard wearing you can buy from LL Bean. If you want a legendary brand and a fashion icon buy Filson!

I just got the new Mackinaw wool lined jac shirt in red/oak. For those who want something a bit heavier and wind resistant than the cruiser with similar lines and not looking too bulky, I like it alot. Clearly aimed at those that wish cruiser was more wind resistant, less scratchy and less clingy. Wish it was made in US, but at least it's not Chinese. Similar to other Filsons, the size runs very generous. I went down a size, and there is still a ton of room for layering. I probably could have gone down 2 and still had it fit. Keep in mind if you truly want to look more like a shirt fit.

In comparison, I have a down cruiser jacket with the same insulation, 650 fps, and it's without exaggeration three times thicker and warmer. I have the impression that quality control is very random when it comes to clothing produced in Bangladesh. I won't dwell on customer service, which is a real disaster.

I’d like to see Filson getting into more fashion-oriented designs, kinda like how Red Wing has both their work and heritage lines for boots. Either that or do more collaborations like they used to do with brands like Levi’s, Sebago, etc., but with other names like J. Crew and Todd Snyder. Would love to see a Tin Cloth jacket that doesn’t look like it was made for ranching.
@orlog33432 жыл бұрын
I agree but the fact that their clothes look like they’re made for ranching is what makes them look good. Just need to do some refining to the cuts and patterns, etc. but nothing extreme

@@orlog3343 Yeah I'd dig more slim fitting stuff, but I learned that if I just size down (duh) their shirts look a lot more urban friendly. Would love a slimmer tin cloth jacket for sure, I heard that they did a slim fit Mackinaw but it was discontinued years back, the Seattle fit
@Cemmos2 жыл бұрын
I agree, although they did try this with their Seattle fit. Those seemed to go away quick, not sure why. But I think they need to do it in a more elaborate way; the Seattle fit was almost like they just swapped out smaller jacket sizes with larger size tags (not quite what they did, but it was basically how the stuff fit and looked).
@XFS5402 жыл бұрын
@@orlog3343 Yes, exactly. They could do a bit of a slimmer cut, more simplistic pocket designs. Look at Flint and Tinder’s Waxed Mill jacket for reference. It has just 2 welt hand pockets and one zippered chest pocket; that’s it.

Filson use to be a working class, hard service, functional garment. Now its has gone the way of a go-to-the-mall fashion trend. Subpar, trendy, yuppy Primaloft has replaced multi-function wool that was used for warmth, even when wet, and durability. The expense of their goods are outrageous and it has all been outsourced. The crazy price increases and greedy management has has just about sucked the net worth lifeblood out of a once great brand. The greedy management will cripple the brand and move on the their next venture capitol victim(s).
