Crispin Campbell, Concert Cellist, Interlochen Arts Academy faculty & Filarmonica Joven de Colombia associate demonstrates playing the blues on the cello, Strings By Mail Demonstration Series "Lizard Blues".
Classical instruments such as the cello are often overlooked in popular styles such as the Blues. Here Crispin presents an excellent example of how well the cello can fit the blues.
Crispin Campbell has taught cello and coached chamber music at Interlochen Arts Academy for over 25 years. He was co-founder of the Manitou Music Festival, where he served as artistic director for ten years, and is a summer faculty member of Northwestern University's National High School Music Institute. Since 2004, he has been a guest instructor at the Universidad Javeriana in Bogota, Colombia.
Mr. Campbell's musical interests are wide, ranging from the classical cello repertoire to varying styles of jazz, blues, Latin and North American folk music. Recently he has performed two recital tours of Bolivia and the complete Bach Cello Preludes in Minneapolis with TUDance Company. His collaborative performances have involved chamber music with the Interlochen Piano Trio, members of the Fine Arts and Stradivari Quartets, the Raphael Trio, and others. His improvisational playing is currently with the Neptune Quartet, which appears frequently at music festivals and concert venues such as Kerrytown Concert House (Ann Arbor, MI) and the New Directions Cello Festival (Lawrence University, WI). He has appeared as a soloist with the Buglisi/Foreman Dance troupe in New York City and as a recitalist in the US and Latin America.
