Yep, drifting or slow rowing with a 12 inch rubber worm in a single circle hook. Veeeery effective. Oh...light rod with 8 lb test....and flatten the barb on the hook.

My late summer/fall pattern on the Potomac is finding a shallow bar that’s subject to a strong tidal current…bait gets pushed up and stragglers get washed with the current and stripers are usually there waiting. Jerkbaits or a popping cork/jig combo always works. They’re usually smaller fish but can always find a keeper in the bunch. Fun light tackle fishing regardless

How do you decide which color spoon to use...is there a method to your selection or is it trial and error? I think I may have to buy some chartreuse Bob Parker spoons. Shattered glass has worked well however. Love these videos Mike!!!
@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS2 жыл бұрын
Thanks brother!! I’m actually working on a video explaining how I choose. I’m working with Nichols (Ben Parker Spoons)as we speak. They are producing a few Team Old School color patterns this spring. A lot is trial and error. when they are biting strong it doesn’t matter as much, but on tougher days a less flashy spoon will work better. Stained water I love the gold and the Chartreuse. Clear water I like white and chrome. Shattered glass is kind of a tweener. Works good all the time 😁

Mike, Why do foul hooked fish always feel bigger than they really are? Any idea?
@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS2 жыл бұрын
Sure, it’s because the slightest pressure they apply aims them directly away from the rod. They are always in perfect fighting stance. When hooked in the mouth they have to really struggle to keep aimed away, their head is constantly pulled to one side or the other turning them sideways. 👍👍

Love your videos, I'm looking at Stealth Striper rods and wondering which one would be best for bank fishing and casting long distance. Where in the water column do you mainly find stripes I know there are a lot of variables, temperature, structure, bait but just in general. Please keep making videos because where I am not a lot of people fish for stripes so good information is very limited. Thanks.
@krisbrown53222 жыл бұрын
The right rod when it comes to casting is all going to depend on what type of bait or lure and weight you're trying to cast. The heavier the lure/bait, you will need a heavier rod to handle that. As far as the striper being in one certain depth over other depths, it is a loaded a question. When it comes to fish like stripers, they are top of the food chain in most cases. So they are going to follow the bait or stay close by the bait. So, to answer that question, I would have to say wherever the bait is at that given moment. Or where the structure is at any giving location.
