I worked with John Elkann ( Chairman of Ferrari and Stellantis ). April hinted at exactly what I was thinking. Appealing to older generations would only buy them so much time. I think a better idea is to do something they HAVEN’T done before. Give themselves a completely new identity instead of trying to go back to their roots. They need to reinvent themselves and appeal to young buyers. Maybe people that don’t even know their history. There is a reason other brands like Ferrari and Lamborghini and Rolls Royce etc are changing their powertrains. First and foremost they’re a business and they have to make cars that will pass emissions standards so they can SELL them. Thats how they make money. By selling cars. How many more years are you even going to be able to sell a V12 or anything else that creates emissions in every market? 10 years? That’s just putting a bandaid on the problem. A temporary solution at best. A business has to be able to adapt and change with the times. Not try to do business the way it was done 50 or 100 years ago.
@jpl88782 ай бұрын
A new identity is exactly their long-term plan. They have an electric Granturismo and Grancabrio, and supposedly an electric MC20 coming next year. They got into Formula-E to develop their EV technology and their goal is to be all-electric by 2030. Of course all of that goes out the window if Stellantis sell them. Investing billions into a brand and then selling it less than 5 years later for someone else to reap the benefit of that investment - or at least avoid the greatest risk - doesn't sound like smart business to me, but I'm not an auto executive

Ferrari should buy Maserati (and Alfa) - and put it back to being a sports/luxury brand. Kill the EV's, make the Ghibli a really upmarket and more powerful Guila Quadrofoglio. - This way Ferrari can focus on sports cars - Maserati has the GT and the sedan, maybe an SUV and as a bonus (Ferrari should probably axe their SUV) ... Let Alfa pick up the lower end of the stairstep to the top. For all of them - a good idea would be to loose some of the complexity - and have common parts- especially on the electronics. With some chassis sharing, and focus on quality - this could go very well.

I’ve owned my Quattroporte GTS and Ghibli SQ4 for years and they have been reliable and a blast to drive. I believe where ownership went wrong was diluting the brand with underwhelming cars like the Ghibli and Grecale in pursuit of higher production number me-too cars to compete with BMW, Porsche and Mercedes Benz. They should be focusing on being the pinnacle and exclusive high end Italian car and compete with Bentley. Keep the Grand Turismo and Quattroporte, maybe the MC20 as a halo car, and dump the Nettuno twin turbo 6 for normally aspirated V8’s and 12’s. Make a QP to compete against the Flying Spur and GT the Continental. Bring back exclusivity and the flamboyant style, exhilaration, sound, and fury of big engines with a correspondingly higher price.

The only thing you need to do for this brand is simple. You need it to be sexy look of its past. Getting it retro and cut the cost of making em by using v8s from Chevy and then you get a V12 based LS engine. So all you got is V8 and V12. But then you get Jasson with his walking out of the ocean and into the SUV and add the line going to be late to pick up the kids. Then dirth flies and ring the school bells go off and all the ladies are talking to the dad about nothing and the kids say ah dad next time send mom. As they are pushing true to get in the Suv. So ladies are the ones that like the brand anyway.
